Just bought a GL.iNET router. Apparently it runs on an openwrt fork and can run all openwrt packages and plugins. What packages and plugins do you guys use on your openwrt routers?

Cool, but this design looks unfamiliar, doesn't look like standard Luci UI, so you might find it extra difficult to navigate this stuff by just reading OpenWRT docs. Also, why not just buy an Asus router and install OpenWRT on it? Feel a little bit like true hacker and all.

Why would you buy an Asus router only to install OpenWRT on it?
>>
>>108664299
yep their fork is loaded up with telemetry
>>
>>108664299
then he would complain that the performance took a hit because stock openwrt doesn't use any proprietary firmware
>>
>>108664299
That was the first thing I did with mine. I don't trust this normiefied fork at all. I'm using what fucking works and is GOATed.

anyone have any luck installing OpenWRT on pic rel?
>>
>>108664287
They do include Luci in their builds. Their newer stuff uses SoCs that aren't supported by openwrt natively because of proprietary drivers. So I would avoid those devices desu.

Are the pi routers any good for openwrt?
>>
why mess with anemic routers when you can install opnsense/pfsense on a $200 intel minipc?
>>
>>108671741
depends. the pi4 is kinda gimped. the ethernet shares bandwidth with the usb.

now show us the wifi.

Me and my roomies bought one of these because our ISP shitrouter couldn't handle all our devices. They were also hoping it could block ads on the TV's YouTube app (it can't lol).

Anything cool I can do with it? I did get a hand me down mac studio which I'll set up as a home server, I imagine it'll be useful for that at least.

when do you anons update your openwrt? i do mine like every couple of years wondering if i should do it more frequently

>>108664272
one cool thing i use on mine sometimes is policy based routing (pbr and luci-app-pbr) and openvpn. using policy based routing you can make it so specific domains or devices use a vpn. I use it for my android tv box as my isp blocks tonnes of streamslop

>>108665927
nta but i use immortalwrt it has way better perf for my router

Attach a router in bridge mode so you can use its wifi. not that hard.
>>
>>108671785
What about the antennas?
>>
>>108679781
Switch your router to bridge mode and repurpose it as both an antenna and an uncontrolled network switch.

Does OpnSense have telemetry or any of that shit? I would like to use it in the future, but not if it has anything related to telemetry.
>>
>>108680951
Nope, opnsense doesn't collect telemetry unless you enable it. By default, it's telemetry free
