i have a theory that laptop induce depression into people who use them daily, they're ergonomical nightmare, using these things can't be good for your health.
the only way to make laptop usable is to use them like a desktop with a dock and external monitor with real kb/mouse.

Well... it's virtually impossible to find one which fulfills all my requirements.
ECC Support and thus
AMD, ARM OR Intel Xeon
OLED (glossy, needless to say) or a very good glossy LCD
CoreBoot
Keyboard Light
Repair-ability
Schematics available

How'd you manage to fuck it up? Here's my ITX PC btw

Because I work with sensitive code bases controlling industrial chemical reactors. We use formally verified software for our microcontrollers.
I occasionally work from home or on trains using my own hardware.
Even a single bit flip occurring down the pipeline to a plant's embedded control units is intolerable.
Framework's are about to get coreboot, so there is some progress.

Probably the first person on /g/ bitching about ECC who actually has a valid reason for it, congrats.
As for the coreboot situation, I think there's already a barebones port for the Ryzen 7040 series 13in motherboard, but I don't know if anyone has tried using it.

>but I can still, like, work from a train with a very unstable connection that loses half the packages along the way
My statement didn't imply I would remotely flash something via a wireless connection while I am on a train.
That's in fact, by design not possible.
Glossy screen reflection's never bothered me that much. There is a trade off here between working during the day and potentially being at a hotel at evening and wanting to enjoy some private entertainment with great image quality.
I am not going to carry around two laptops =)

I was like that too, but once you're forced to get your shit together, they become too convenient again.
Its portability play a massive role for productivy when studying, being able to move around beats being stuck in a single place the entire time.
Also no publicly computers at my fire department, and I will often have plenty of free time, being able to take one with me lets me keep studying, or I will spend some free time playing games or watching anime too.
>just use your phone
Phones absolutely suck for that and I'm tired of pretending otherwise, BUT, I will still use mine when I don't have access to my laptop.

Same. Have had five or six throughout my life, all of them died on me after a few years of light use. Fuck them. As soon as the current piece of shit I have breaks in half due to hinge damage I am done buying new. I will just get a used chinkpad or some shit like that

killed my PC today
my PC was running slow, so i went into System and saw only 16GB of RAM when i knew i had 32, so i open it up and reached in to feel the two RAM to see if they were secure, then i pull one out while the PC was still powered on, and then i pushed it back into place. now the PC just blinks yellow and nothing displays on the monitor.

Got this cute thicc girl arriving in 2 days to replace my dead stinkpad.
The big laptop redpill is to never buy new, especially not high-ish end workstations (the only ones worth bothering with t b h), since they are always obscenely expensive when new.

Unironically underclock it by 150-200MHz and all of your problems will be solved

what I hate about laptops is this:
>Acer Predator 18" laptop
>has turbo button to change clock modes
>button only works with a special .exe software
If I install Ubuntu, I lose access to power modes where I can easily underclock the laptop to make it run cooler during browsing sessions, but go turbo for machine learning sessions or gaming sessions.
So I want to switch to Linux but cant because of proprietary Acer software which im not sure exists for Linux.

macs have:
>soldered SSD/RAM/WLAN
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>when pajeetOS runs out of RAM it swapfile rapes the SSD to death within 3 years
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>when the SSD dies it bricks your entire currybook because the EFI is stored on the soldered SSD to save $0.05 on a dedicated chip
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>components serial numbered and tied to the motherboard to prevent repair and replacement (including battery)
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>riveted keyboard that requires total destruction of the chassis to replace
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>flexgate cables that are so brittle they crack from opening your screen past 90 degrees more than 2 dozen times
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>screens so fucking shit they have over 90ms response times (essentially 10Hz)
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>screen made from pajeet trash glass that cracks from temperature change in seasons or tape over the iBotnet webcam
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>so fire and explosion prone the FAA have banned them from all flights
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>uses phone CPU that's so shit it gets destroyed by decade old i3s from 2017 and can only "compete" by cheating at benchmarks in extreme edge cases with hardware accelerators
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>curryniggers at apploo get so full of sniffing their own currynigger silicon shit they ship currybooks with no fans and they run so hot they melt the keyboard keys
doesnt exist on 99% of PCs
>keyboards with 63.5% failure rate
unheard of on PCs, and yet you curryniggers defend it with "jus werx fer me!"
just because you're in the 36.5% survivor group doesn't make your currynigger trash any good
this list goes on forever
there's no PC laptop as total fucking currynigger shit as crapple's streetshitter books
they are the biggest heaps of steaming currynigger shit in the history of computing second only to curryPhones

Based. Dell Precision 7000 series are my favorite chassis. I use a trash pile rescue 7530 as a personal machine and a 7680 as my work machine. Fast, cool, quiet, stronk. Fat workstations are the way to go.

I have the 7760. The GPU shorted out and spewed fire from the back. The motherboard then died shortly after they replaced the GPU. Now the right fan needs to be replaced because the bearing is bad or something.

My grandma bought me a used thinkpad T42 I think from a pawn shop in like 2004 and it was loaded with porn of black men. It apparently belonged to some black woman because her tax records was still on it. What a weird experience that was. I still have it but it hasn't been charged or turned on in like 17 years.

love my latitude 7280
got it for $10 barebones from an ewaste recycler, nobody wants them because the low power cpu runs like shit with modern windows update
meanwhile apple spent a decade selling underpowered garbage so macos runs fine on it

laptops are crucial for when you want to put on airs and bring a laptop to the starbucks.
Once time i went to a starbucks in nyc and it was kinda of cramped and narrow. Looking at the muted industrial themed room, I saw people sipping 10 dollar coffees, while pecking at 2,000 USD laptops and 1,000 dollar watches and phones. Suddenly, a guy enters the starbucks, makes an order then proceeds to grab and dash what is unguarded.
3 laptops, 5 phones. The items where unattended on the butcher block styled industrial looking tables. Guy runs out of the coffee shop with 10, 000 USD worth of goods. here is what is funny: the guy on his way out piclks up his lattee, takes a sip, thanks the barista for a fine cup of coffee then leaves without further comment..
I remember thinking it looked like quintin taratino movir scene. The coffee was good there innyc because the water is soft what ever that means.
Honestly for writing on the go, I use google docs on pixel.
