FAQ:
>How do I activate Windows?
HWID2 generates and registers a permanent legitimate license on MS's activation servers
github.com/massgravel/Microsoft-Activation-Scripts
Usage: paste this into Powershell, run.

>and Office?
Same link, select Ohook option
You can also use Office.com if your needs are very minimal
or try OnlyOffice/LibreOffice and set it to save in MSOffice file formats

Would it be possible to fix ssd issues if I made a new partition with the free space, copied my files over, formatted the old one, and extended the new one without formatting the entire drive?

How does tpm+pin work? If I put my drive into another computer windows will get unactivated no doubt, but what about encryption? Can I access disks?
>>
>>108975701
Bit tricky to explain, but one of the issues I ran into was not being able to use chkdsk to fix it not letting me shrink the drive. And it kept running that command each start-up until I manually excluded the drive from scanning each startup. And I have permission issues when using linux to auto mount it, where I have to keep using ntfsfix -d each time I install a new linux distro, and only read permissions with some apps whenever I use any arch based one.

I installed a fresh w11 and created a new microsoft account in the process (of course a random throwaway adress). Is there any way to un-fuck that and only have a local windows account?
>>
Am I the only person who prefers using Massgrave's TSForge activation over HWID? I feel like reverse engineering the activation system to permanently activate your OS offline is more elegant of a solution than planting a fake license on MS' servers.
>>
>>108976435
You can turn an MS account into a local account within the account settings

>>108976917
It works great, but the activation has an easier chance of disappearing when a feature update is installed for example. Just minor annoyances you don't need to deal with when you use HWID, but it's still a clean activation, especially if you want to activate offline.

>permanently activate your OS offline
You need internet access for the TSforge activation process too and in both cases you don't need internet access anymore once activated
>>
>>108977056
Ah, that's a new thing then. Guess it needs to fetch activation data, but I wonder if you could fetch it on a different machine, move it over and then still activate fully offline.
>>
>>108977056
Actually there's a module of TSforge called KMS4k which allows it to activate the system if no internet is found. ZeroCID is the one that use to work offline completely but a "bug" that was added to a newer version of Windows broke that functionality and it became an online activation.
>>
>>108977056
I like Ohook for old Office (2016) since it's doesn't get updates anyway

Ohook is the recommended Office activation method for all versions anyway

Dumb question.. if I am thinking of reformatting my PC, what IoT LTSC should I consider installing for gaming? Windows 10 or Windows 11? Thanks in advance.
>>
>>108978916
Newer machine? 2024. Older machine? 10 22H2 with ESU activated.
For 10 when late 2028 passes, move over to LTSC 2027.

Thanks, Anon.
Will 2024 eventually implement the same features and build of 2027 when it rolls around? Or will that require another format?
>>

You can just in-place upgrade to 2027 from 2024 when the time comes, like with all LTSC upgrading.

Hello, I am trying to install windows 7 in a virtual machine using qemu, where do I get win7 isos with the latest updates and stuff so i don't have to spend a lot of time updating inside my VM? Also any general tips on using windows 7 now? it's been so long since I used it and last time i tried creating a win7 VM I got errored out the ass by missing DLLs and mismatching .NET versions when i tried to run apps in it

I'm on Linux currently but one of my pcie hardwares is unusable here. Is it possible to do something like boot windows 10 from USB, with a specific program and drivers pre installed?
>>
>>108981063
sure, it's not that different from dual booting except you're doing it with removable media
>>
>>108981115
How would it be done? Just have the installers on the usb?
>>
>>108981126
Uhhh, I think you would need 2 USB sticks, one with the windows installer iso flashed to it, and the second one is the one you intend to install windows on, during the partitioning step in windows installer, select the second USB stick and install windows on it, i think that's how i would do it, but i don't know, it's much easier to have linux on a USB rather than windows.
>>
I have an incredibly specific question, but I would hugely appreciate anyone who answers. On Windows 11, you know the picrelated multi-desktop management icon? I have an Nvidia graphics card (RTX 3060 Ti in case it matters). When I hover over that icon, and then move the mouse away, the following things happen:
1. The screen briefly flickers black
2. The transparency effects of the taskbar go away
Does this happen to anyone else?
>>
>>108982134
I forgot to mention, you also have to be looking at the desktop to see the screen flicker black. So it would be more accurate to say the desktop itself flickers black. Also, this doesn't happen on integrated Intel graphics, only my Nvidia card. Trying to figure out if the piece of shit is subtly dying.
>>
>>108982149
Could be the drivers, I once had heavy artifacting on a 1060 that made me think it was dying. It was the drivers, the card is perfectly fine to this day.
>>
>>108982134
>>108982149
type winver in start menu and what number it says besides 11? there were nvidia graphics bugs not too long ago with older numbers.
>>
>>108982157
>>108982160
I should have mentioned to start with, this is a completely fresh install. Reinstalled the whole OS after doing a fresh install of the driver did nothing. Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2 (OS Build 26200.8457)
>>
>>108982198
try this registry and reboot. if it still happens your gpu is dying.
https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5157/~/after-updating-to-nvidia-game-ready-driver-461.09-or-newer%2C-some-desktop-apps
>>
>>108982218
I'll give that a try if no one else reproduces the issue. Would still appreciate if anyone else could give it a try
>>
>>108982246
you already did fresh install of drivers & windows. the only thing left could be hardware.
>>
>>108982258
The card could well be fucked, but it could still just be a completely normal quirk of Windows + certain Nvidia cards. Like this anon >>108982218 pointed out. Some kind of hardware acceleration or some shit that Windows attempts to do when an Nvidia card offers a certain technology. But before I go messing with the registry on this fresh install, I'll wait a while and see if any other anons try to reproduce the issue.

>>

Anon the whole point of IoT LTSC 2024 is that it can run on really old things. It can be installed on MBR/BIOS machines no hassle, the only thing you need is a 64-bit CPU.

Initiative within MS lead by an old guard engineer that's being run to make 11 not shit anymore, basically. Native WinUI3 apps, more optimization on the backend to make it feel faster/responsive, removing force Copilot integration from stock UWP apps etc. It being launched from around a month ago to late 2027.
>>
>>108975206
b
>>
>>108983028
566.36 is an ancient driver. I know new Nvidia drivers suck but WDDM mismatch is even worse.
>>
>>108984737
I didn't have any problems with 596.49 on 10 LTSC and 11 LTSC with a 3090, and I moved on from 566.36 due to pirated Topaz software and Resolve demanding newer CUDA. It's about time to let go of the stigma and move on. Much like Win11, the modern Nvidia drivers are not as bad as people make them out to be.
>>
>>108984833
If you use latest IHV driver you have to pair with latest Windows Update because of DX12 Agility and the DWM/WDDM is DX12 since 10.
>>
You know how when you lock Windows and then go to log back in it shows a splash screen and you have to press a button to bring up the password box? Where's the setting to disable that in W10?
>>
>>108985042
It's a policy called "Do not display the lock screen" that you enable. Directly goes to the login box instead of needing to click the lock screen.

i have win 10 Iot i removed edge before instalation but now i see that windows downloaded it and installed it in background
i managed to remove it but how do i prevent it from installing again?
>>
>>108992116
If it's the WebView that gets installed, then don't bother as the Edge Update service will still keep it up-to-date
>you may fiddle with uninstalling that component too along with removing the Edge Update service and tasks
>don't be surprise windows' autohealing mechanisms like SFC will restore it anyways
But if you parse the force-uninstall switch to the Edge installer like this script does, you should take care of the browser component at least
https://gist.github.com/ave9858/c3451d9f452389ac7607c99d45edecc6

Then you may pair with MSEdgeRedirect for the stubborn system components that will still try to invoke Edge with the URL handler
>EEA locale Windows installations are apparently capable of uninstalling Edge easily, though I still had a "Repair Edge" regardless on 10 22H2, so YMMV
>If the browser still gets restored, then there used to be a fork of AveYo's script on GH that you may try, that and ShadowWhisperer's utility

>>108992908

I just got a random "restart to repair drive errors" notification. I did chkdsk scans and it gives some corrupted errors about Edge I think.

Two other lines like this. Is my SSD dying? It is probably 5+ years old now.

>>108993030
could be a random error, but doesn't hurt to use CrystalDiskInfo to see if there's something wrong with your drive already

Im hoping to get some help migrating a current installation of windows 10 on an AM4 older computer onto a newly built am5 rig.

I built a pc for a friend of my mums for work, the new computer is ready and now i need to migrate the windows to the new rig; IT HAS TO BE MIGRATED AS IS. Installations passwords etc since she uses it to work and under no circumstance wants to start on a new fresh windows install (i will try to broach that on a few weeks once we have crossed the current bridge).
So what are my options? my first idea was installing an external hd or an ssd and use Macrium reflect to create a clone of the w10 install and then put that disk on the new rig and clone it onto the new pc's disk.

I assume there will be a bunch of hurdles on this and before i go to chatgpt with the issue i was wondering if you guys could tell me if im approaching it the wrong way.

Thanks

Either clone it or just stick the existing drive in the new PC

Macfag here. What mouse should I get? I bought a Logitech M650 L in the fall of last year and it has lasted me this long. I read here that Logitech mice can falter after a while. The mouse I use now has a Bluetooth dongle which is not a real problem for me. Don't know how a Bluetooth mouse that connects directly to the computer works on Windows though I reckon if that's not a real problem there it shouldn't be a problem on Mac either.

Business editions like Education and Enterprise give you much more solid control over your system without it reverting things and such. Also can disable the vast amount of all telemetry with policy or dashboards like ShutUp10

>>
>>109004023
Well that's natural because unless the custom ISO has a github that you can look through to see exactly what the creator is doing to get what it says the ISO does, then you have no idea what the hell they've done to it besides just trusting them. Using standard ISOs from Massgrave and getting them debloated via Rufus's new debloating option before flashing is much safer and easier.
