For every 5-7 posts, you'll get:
- the retard demanding importers to manually upload on Exhentai, which would take something like 5 years to upload 200-300 works from Fanbox because of Exhentai's shitty speed and rules.
- the retard agendaposting that people don't pay for LLM slop or LLM slop doesn't attract lots of people who don't use ad block and don't donate.

In some respects I think it would be better if the site just went offline altogether to encourage a replacement to step up and fill the void. At the moment we're in this limbo land but holding onto hope that it will come back to life is stifling progress.

If you're talking about "kemonopiracy" that some retard with multiple accounts was shilling on Reddit and retards on f95zone were hyping up as an alternative to Kemono, it was a scam site that was machine generated, had only thumbnails from the real Kemono, and had no posts. "kemonopiracy" never had any importers, and if you weren't retarded, you could tell from the Reddit posts and screenshots that it was going to be a scam. sadly, most people are retarded.

there's a lot of datahoarders, it wouldn't surprise me if one of them got a mirror of the entire site. I've personally scraped several whole sites with shippy APIs through custom Python scripts. I'm very space constrained so I only have a 4x20TB pool, but if i could i would scrape whole Kemono outright.
And it's piss easy to mirror a site like that, all you need is a bunch of drives in a chassis, good enough Internet link, and a scraping script.
But people typically keep those backups to themselves and don't boast or share them publicly.
And to turn that private backup into a public website, now you're dealing with colocation, DNS, hosting public website, database, APIs, exporters etc. That's a lot more work.

There aren't a lot of data hoarders. And most of the time when I see someone claiming to be it, he or she would be doing something retarded like lossly compressing the files or other types of file manipulation.

Here are some facts about Kemono:
- For years, the admin said someone sent him a complete back up of Yiff.party and he'd share it. He did share it, but the files were all unsorted, and he wasn't sure if he should sort it on Kemono or make a new domain.
- The dev working for Kemono wanted to kill Exhentai. That's why you used to be able to import DLsite on Kemono. He was also working on importers for the other Japanese store fronts. Kemono's admin was against the idea because he thought it'd finish off Exhentai.
- Kemono's first Gumroad and Fanbox importers were made by a furry who saw a request for it on /trash/.
- Kemono's most recent Fanbox importers was made by a college student. It stopped working when Fanbox put all paywalled posts behind HTTP/3.
- Kemono's API is awful. There are a lot of files that were corrupted and the admin refuses to let the files in those posts be re-imported. The API and the site shows a different number of unique revisions. When Kemono imported an updated post, it would take anywhere from 6 hours to 3 days for it to become downloadable.

Four weeks ago, HaruLind joined a Discord channel made by /h/ users and it was then immediately taken down for "copyright infringement". Really makes you think.

I've been burned by this enough times to know better, and still missed out on a few things.

Sadpanda makes access difficult, kemono doesn't. It's much easier to start a hate campaign among artists when it's easy to blatantly link their paywalled images. I'm not saying sadpanda's gatekeeping is necessarily the perfect solution (it has its own issues), but it does mostly prevent hate from going viral.
Whether or not artists get butthurt has little to do with a site's lifespan. That mainly depends on how long it takes the owner to lose interest. Using importers as opposed to general uploads is inherently harder to maintain, though it provides the best functionality since uploaders can't fuck with the files.

There's another reason. Kemono's admin has been accused of not being the one who made the importers, which seems to be the case. The Patreon importer was broken for almost a year. All he had to do was fix like 5 lines of code so it could save the post text. Fanbox started using some new internet protocol 2-3 months before claiming to have stopped Kemono's Fanbox importer and banning hundreds of accounts. Before Kemono's Fanbox importer started working, there was another site called Nekohouse that imported Fanbox posts. Guess what? Kemono's admin was hosting Nekohouse. It's obvious Nekohouse was Kemono's testing site.

Here's what I think. Kemono's admin is extremely paranoid (justified). He only lets his friends fix/add importers. The college student who worked on Nekohouse doesn't want to fix it for some reason. So, the admin froze Kemono until someone he trusts helps him bring it back up.
