The most funny part of Cold War history is how death toll figures change based on the author's bias. I read three books this year that covered the great leap forward. The anti-communist author quoted 30 million+ deaths, the relatively unbiased author quoted 10-30, while the leftist author quoted less than 10. It's funny to me how they all agreed on most facts but the death toll estimates vary so wildly and they all argue that their estimate is the most accurate based on trust me bro. As if nine million deaths from a policy disaster is less of a condemnation than thirty.
