I've been studying the filioque controversy between Eastern and Western Christianity and I have to ask, why does it matter? I understand the geopolitical and ecclesial reasons it matters. But how does accepting or rejecting filioque affect my salvation?

theologians were just their time period's version of debatebros like destiny and vaush using minute differences in interpretation to 'own the chuds'

everything matters. if you think god made even one mistake youre a complete apostate. just saying im not even christian.

Yeah, but the Filioque is just a doctrinal statement made by men.

think how these men were instated by men before them going back to christ. so they were instated in the christian sense by literal god himself. thats why men is a loose term, it can mean god.

idk seems like in roman catholicism he Pope is always in the right until Pope Leo III's stance against the filioque is stated.

But again that's a ecclesial issue not a salvific one, unless you want to argue that you can only be saved by being in communion with the Roman Bishop.

It's really just political. The catholic church put the filioque in the creed to fight against arianism, which wasn't as prominent in Eastern churches. The eastern churches were mad not because of the filioque itself, but because the bishop of rome failed to consult the eastern churches before doing so. It all goes back to the power of the pope, these things
