If we take pride in what was by luck, this is detached from reality as we were not the cause of the gain but fate. If we take pride in what we are talented at, then it is downstream of our natural abilities. And yet our natural abilities are inherited characteristics. So yes, you should be proud of who you are by nature.

Does it? Should athletes be prideful? They had absolutely nothing do with their athletic talents conferred upon them by genetics.
Should beautiful women be proud? They had absolutely nothing do with being beautiful.

Considering how strongly they impact your ability to accomplish shit, I'd say it's no worse than taking pride in anything else.
Regardless, the original quote is about group consciousness, and being proud of your group is a cohesion mechanism, so rather than bad it's overwhelmingly good.
Why am I seeing so much schopenhauer on /his/ lately? His retarded ass ought not warrant such attention. Then again, I'd rather see him than haplotards, so keep going I guess.
