Why do I feel like 99% of Dissociative Identity Disorder claimers I've seen online are attention seeking larpers? The way I've interpreted it is you enter dissociative fugues where you forget who you are and take on different characteristics, but at the same time you're fundamentally the same person.

Every person I met who claimed to have the condition acted as if they were separate people entirely, and worse yet had separate personalities based on fictional characters. I'm in a Discord Server right now and there are users claiming to have alters of Funtime Freddy Fazbear and Crash Bandicoot, among others. I thought I could escape this but a friend revealed to me lately that she has "headmates" and I honestly don't know what to think.

I try to be tolerant, but as someone with several mental illnesses myself I really don't know how I feel about what looks like clear larping from my perspective. Am I behind the times? Is there truth to any of this nonsense?

I don't think they're LARPers but they're definitely attention seekers and most of the time this shit is accompanied by some other mental illness like autism and I can never help but feel like giving these retards a platform was a mistake and that we should go back to openly bullying them in real life.
