he didn't even do anything illegal, his underlings were just being retarded and he thought he had a duty to protect them because of their long term loyal service

Leftists were angry and wanted to lynch Nixon. That's mostly all it was.

Boomers will tell you about A WATERSHED MOMENT IN AMERICAN HISTORY, A MASSIVE ABUSE OF POWER, A LOSS OF PUBLIC TRUST IN GOVERNMENT, he WIRETAPPED an office. Yeah TEN TIMES worse than *pstein files.

They had it out with him since the 1952 election.

The fact Nixon lied about it and tried to cover it up matters more than what he did desu

>>18435786
Damn those leftists for punishing a corrupt politician!

But not all the corrupt politicians who were from the other party of course.

From the democrat side, it was a form of Nixon Derangement Syndrome. Just think of how the left thinks of Trump; and then consider how they would react if he finally got caught at something.

For the republicans, it was more a matter of someone who you cared about getting honestly caught doing wrong. You feel bad for them, you're worse off because he did what he was caught at; but you're still enough of a believer in rules that you accept that if he broke the rules he had to go.

Mind you, the mentality of the nation (and politicians) has changed. So with Reagan, we got the "if they did wrong but their heart was in the right place, that's OK"; with Clinton we got "can you even define wrong?" and with Trump, we occasionally get "I'm better at being wrong than anyone else"

> what was the big deal
In short... he got caught on tape saying things which technically constituted a crime, obstruction of justice. Since he was caught on tape, there was no way to spin it.

>Nixon: Newsweek is totally—it’s all run by Jews and dominated by them. Their editorial pages, the New York Times, the Washington Post—totally Jewish too...
>Graham: And they’re the ones putting out the pornographic stuff…This stranglehold has got to be broken or this country is going down the drain.
>Nixon: Do you believe that?
>Graham: Yessir.
>Nixon: So do I. I can’t ever say it. But I believe it.

Hard to say if he meant literal Jews or meme Jews (meme Jew meaning "person/thing I don't like")

Nixon was probably sloshed on those tapes, all professional men of that generation were drunk pretty much 24/7.
