I'm an illustrator and concept artist so yes I make a good living out of art but I just began doing nsfw art. I'll be doing it on the side of my "real" jobs. I posted 3 pictures on hentai foundry and someone asked me for a commission the same day.

I think it's still profitable. I don't intend to make a living out of the porn stuff, just something from the side, more for fun than anything. But I'm pretty sure I could if I wanted.
The thing is that you need to stand out from the constant noise, creating your own job.
Because I suck at networking and social media, I put all of my skills point in technique, to make sure that my technique alone would give me jobs, and it worked. But if you're good at these skills, you definitely need to utilize them. For me I just like painting, I would hate to manage a community.

Is it worth making a DA in 2026?

Having to use social medias instead of art sites to post nsfw art taught me to really separate the artists from their arts, because holy fucking shit, a lot of artists with really cool art have really horrendous posting habits.

okay so this one is probably one of the best examples here of being appealing for something nsfw, however.. there's a lot going on here that hinders this character design. She's a rat, i get that, but for every strange feature you add, you limit your potential reach. For me the nose is what's pushing it. I like big noses, but right now it just looks kinda pasted on, doesnt fit the rest of her design language. Needs to be more formed to her face. Also her eyes are too close together and head too long.

Very simply put - it needs to have beauty. What are the golden ratios of human anatomy, what body types look good to what kinds of people. Do you like fat people? Then find the *sexiest* way to draw a fat girl/guy. Color harmony, color balance, shape balance. Is the imagine too busy? Does the character have too many unnecessary details?

Look at what performs well and you'll quick see patterns. the reason anime is popular is simply because it's optimized for appeal. For every extra line you add to the face past the eyes, you are shrinking your global reach, make them count.

You are free to draw what you like, but always play around with it, see what is necessary and what is not.

Yeah it's definitely my weakest point. Heads/faces that is. That and stiff poses.

Absolutely disagree, but it's a matter of perspective I suppose.
I maintain my art separate from my income-source. This way I can make exactly the art I want to make, and explore exactly the avenues of art that are fulfilling for me without any hindrance at all from outside intervention.
My income is a completely different aspect of my life. I love it that way, and I truly believe it makes art much more enjoyable that way as well.

You can just draw for yourself, but if who you are is an uninspiring person, you're not doing yourself any favors either way. It's a naive kind of narcissism to believe that you innately have something meaningful to offer the world, but that naivety just makes your art sophomoric. Meaningful self-expression takes study and practice and observation, you don't just suddenly become interesting by spiritually masturbating all the time. That "learn the rules before you break them" thing goes for matters of taste as much as it does technical skills.

I have a game plan.

I was going to video myself drawing the Introductory Story of the World of Jeremey Prickles, my IP, passion and mission in hyperlapse , the story unfolding before your eyes. I could do 2-3 uploads a week as a way to get consistent traffic from people invested in the narrative. After a strip is laid out, then I would drag it into Photoshop for coloring and tweaking, these to be sold as physical books. I would have my Etsy store to peddle merchandise linked from my channel.

Look at the light hitting the rocks and how it effects the color, now look at your drawing, I think you kind of did it but I would push it more towards that pinkish hue.
