Looking up old anime on archive dot org, found something called Key The Metal Idol. When the OP hit, I was *instantly* enamored. Hot damn that shit so good bruh oughhhh fuuuuugggggg that animation, and that bassline, I'm gonna be bumping that shit for daaaays
I've always really liked this style of anime. We had Xenosaga Episode 1 for the PS2 when I was a kid, so it's always kind of stuck with me. I love how expressive the shapes of the face are and how they change depending on angle, and how it's simultaneously so 3D yet so abstracted. It's so cool.

It's a fine line for you, if you learn construction and how to make things structurally sound I fear you'll lose all the sovl and end up another cliche anime artist, though you do need to learn how to place color and edges so your art can shine. If you do learn some anatomy and construction you ought to come back to this piece and remake it to see if you made it better or you became study brained and lost the sovl of this piece.

I actually tried to do a more involved composition last week but it failed pretty badly at the inking/marker stage. That's why I'm drawing on toned paper with just pen. I feel like if I can fill up the 50 pages of this mini sketchbook, I'll have something.

But Carlos Nine was on some god tier shit. His sense of form feels supernatural, and it's obvious he directly inked for that loose/animated effect. Probably take a lifetime to get to that level.

Thanks! I use something called the Machine Dotting Auto Action for Clip Studio. It makes a nice screentone texture and has other actions to make the art look more textured and older. However, creator of the auto action deleted all the stuff they uploaded, so it's really hard to find now. Someone might've reuploaded it somewhere but I'm not sure

It's probably a me problem but it really feels like it's way more difficult to make friends or join in on anything now, it's like there is an oversaturation of 'things' but no big common 'thing' that everyone would know about and participate in.
Maybe 10 or 15 years ago it felt like I could get explore all the big websites and get a grasp on what was happening on places like newgrounds, youtube, 4chan, steam or whatever it felt easy to just join in on whatever big anime was airing or new big game release.
Now it feels like there is such an oversaturation of things happening that its impossible to find common ground when trying to make friends or find places where everyone converges to talk about the big thing.
I'm using a lot of vagueness but I'm really not sure how to articulate what I want to say.
