I HATE this stupid website
I HATE that everyone is on it but I can't get on it!
I HATE that codes are hard to get, oooh we want to keep out the scammers my ass, it's either 1% chance you get a code in a giveaway or you have to do some stupid shit to get a code, people literally make you do free art for them just to give out these damn codes
I"M A BROKE ARTIST! I make no money, Ko-fi is dead, everyone flocked to Vgen but I can't get in.
I could be taking comissions right now. I could be making money, but instead I've been trying to get a fucking code for months just for the POSSIBILITY TO MAKE MONEY!
I HATE VGEN!!!!

Finally someone who hates VGen as much as I do, how can you promote yourself as commissions made easy when you need to hunt for a code only to get drowned by other posters. This and Art Fight are both /beg/ farms.

I never use vgen but i dont like the gist of it. Why does this site exist? What happened with the ole artist-to-client commision? Why is suddenly people want to become part of this thing? I'm not saying that its fishy, people do get money and art from it, I just dont like the idea of commercialization en masse in a place like this, reminds me of that skillshare and similar site

>vgen is probably offering a way to get your foot in the door without having to be interesting or good at art. that's literally it. The barrier of entry is low enough that even week 2 /beg/s can easily get commissions because how much it's pushed. The fees are aids and you can't make nsfw art while using it, sine vgen staff actually goes out of their way to check, but at least you can get "easy" commissions I guess...
>>
>>7951337
Real talk. No one would give a shit about making "NSFW art" if it didn't pay. At the end of the day you do commissions for the money. You don't care about the actual subject matter of the commission, you're just doing it for the money.

what is even the point of vgen? and don't say discoverability because it's terrible at that. and it's still full of scammers despite gatekeeping with codes. i'm always seeing "warning new vgen scam!!" tweets
i have a ko-fi account and my regular commissioners just send money through that

Wow, the mascot is really cute, isn't she? It looks like a fun and friendly place, but when I go to join, it says I need a code. Another social hierarchy? I don't need any of that. I will just draw girls in peace like I've been doing.

i set up a vgen and uploaded what i think are my best works and have received 0 requests, it honestly feels demotalizng but whatever. so yeah op dont feel that bad, you could get a code, put hours into your shop, and have nothing to show for it

I think it's more so a vouch for the person's character, and ensure that AI sloppers don't get on. Vouch for a bad person, get banned along with them - or at least that's how such systems SHOULD work anyway.

looked up the ways to get a code and if you're an asocial freak the best you can do is either e-beg on social media or participate in the monthly challenge, but if >>7951589 can't get it then it's joever

I never understood drawing/painting like this. following a reference 1:1 and drawing a girl in a boring void. If I draw Makima I'm giving her a hairy pussy in an erotic position, or have her tits squished against her arms or SOMETHING. That is interesting about these accurately rendered white void drawings? NOTHING. And if the girl in the middle is the artist then its double soulless. what is she saying with these bikini drawings besides "I heard you guys like boobies so heres a character with boobies!"

I never tried lmao. I was curious about the site just now then browsed to see what's up. I have 0 issue getting commissions on my own.
Just because you are a beginner that can't see tells yet, doesn't mean I am. I'm by no means a pro but I guarantee I can draw well enough to get in.
>>7952602
It's because anything more complex is beyond their own skillset and doing more requires knowing something about staging or how forms interact with others. or thought.

2022 - 2026 is plenty of time to improve.
A lot can change in a year too, especially when you're a beginner and you're improving more rapidly than you will later in your career where the gains are slower.
Also why is your canvas so large lol
>>
>>7952634
kinda my point, it IS better even if you think just marginally. The only similarity is in them not having backgrounds and being sexual in nature.
You are entitled to your level of interest however
>>7952635
I realized after the fact that I didn't crop the damn thing.
I have only ever opened MS paint 3 times in the past 5 years and didn't realize the canvas expands when you copy paste.
Certainly, one can improve immensely in 4 years, but this is not one of those cases

Sorry, I've got no interest in jumping though hoops for something I'm probably never going to use.
Right now, I can just disappear for months, pop up on any of my twitter art alts, say I'm opening commissions for sketches then people shove comms at me that same day. Gl though.

Thank you, anon. You are very smart and cool.

How do they even guarantee that illustrators aren't using AI? That sounds like it would be a pain to prove for every single person who enters a code. So you have to just trust that the person who gave them the code is both not in on the AI scam and also smart enough to be able to tell that the person they gave the code to is not using AI. Seems like a flimsy system.
Furthermore, someone who is selling commissions has a vested interest in not giving codes to anyone, because increasing the amount of sellers on a closed platform increases the seller's competition. So the only people they might give a code to are people who are worse than them, and so you're going to have a lot of low-skill illustrators on the platform who might start to feel like they have to use AI after all to stay competitive.
You know what, I don't think the creators of this site thought this through at all. It's just "AI bad" without a deeper understanding of the problem.

You are supposed to commission artists you already know are trustworthy. If you buy from random users, you kinda deserve to get scammed imo. Still you can get your money back.
There are also other ways to get invite codes.
>>
>>7952476
$200 wasn't even considered that much a while back for a commission. most social media artists these days are from places like SEA and they still work in USD, so prices are driven down egregiously. there's nothing you can really do about it other than be very, very popular so you can ask for higher prices.

You're only competing with people who draw the same things you do, if your thing is cute girls in frilly dresses they can invite a thousand bara furry artists and you won't see a difference.
Actually, considering the focus on Vtuber stuff you could exploit it for more money, if your friends all draw different stuff a Vtuber might need you can shill one another, if one hires you for a splash screen you can tell her about your friend who does Twitch emotes and stuff like that.
>>
>>
Commissioners are probably very picky and only work with their favorite artists whom they have known for years. I don’t think many of them would open VGen to search for a random artist. Nobody can be that desperate for a drawing.
Supporting an artist you like is a big part of the whole art commission culture thing. The drawing is important but really not that much.

it's literally so easy to get in, put a little bit of effort into any monthly challenge and you can easily win and get a code, everytime i participate i win if you don't get votes it means you're stuff doesn't appeal to the average joe so just make something light and fun

That's for regular people who want their sonas dicked or their D&D campaign illustrated, when you're a mid-tier Vtuber you often find yourself needing new art on a deadline. Take all the seasonal stuff, I'm sure every July is a bloodbath as everyone is trying to get new models, new backgrounds, new emotes and all for Halloween, there's the really big sponsored streams where you get paid so much to shill the latest game you're expected to get new art, etc. When you're Ironmouse you just know high profile drawfags and get it done but GloopieBoopie(VWhocares) and her 300 subs just has to hire whoever the fuck because their regular artist just got booked for the next eight months.
And then there's all the auxiliary stuff, I don't think you end up with a dedicated guy for your overlays, you don't call them often enough to get that sort of relationship.

Stay mad cuck, I can live like a king while undercutting you and taking a fat shit on your dreams at the same time. It can't get any better than this. Tbh you should start blaming your own cheapass people for being disloyal to their own artists

>Stripe bans me from selling even sfw commissions because I draw nsfw on my own time
>vgen gets to continue to exist as an official Powered By Stripe partner with nsfw everywhere
The blatant double standard favoritism is why I stopped using it

i wish vgen had more professional artists on it. i was looking for 3DCG fags to make my spaceship in blender, but there's literally zero 3D artists on vgen outside of vtubers.
fiverr, meanwhile, has several 3DCG artists specializing in spaceships. vgen is 90% anime girls and 10% furries.

>Tbh you should start blaming your own cheapass people for being disloyal to their own artists
I actually agree with this. People will go on about keeping jobs and manufacturing in their country... and then proceed to buy the cheapest chinese shit they can get. They want the jobs, but not to pay the prices that keeping jobs in the country would entitle. Why should companies keep manufacturing domestic, when the locals will always buy the cheaper option? Why should companies keep manufacturing domestic, when the locals will never actually hold the company accountable by boycotting them?
Likewise with art, we have slackjaws claiming they love art and want to support artists, but they would never pay the prices that someone living in their country would or should demand, and expect art to be cheap - which is why they go with thirdies.
Honestly, globalism has fucked everything.

>fucking your fellow over to ultimately destroy an entire ecosystem is called "competition"
