Other types of exercises helped me more in learning. I had trouble translating from the bean fold studies to the actual body.
Also, my beans were indeed uglier than most.

he's helped and hindered me
before I really stuck with drawing and I got good at it, his figure and gesture videos hurt me a lot. Since he's a skilled and classically trained artist, he subconsciously bakes form, anatomy, and perspective into his gesture drawings.

So, when I would try and do my beginner gestures, I would get extremely frustrated that my gestures never looked like his - even though gesture at its most basic isn't at all supposed to look like his owing to the fact that, y'know, he's pre-baking several other areas of study (form/perspective/anatomy) into his gestures.
He never really points this out or even seems to be aware of it further than "if you're new at this you'll probably need more time! :)"

this made me give up several times until I found alternative resources for gesture and figure drawing that emphasized what gesture is really supposed to be about

what resources
>>

idk where i'd be without this guy, sinix design, moderndayjames, marc brunet and marco bucci
>>
i definitely do and he has for sure, even if i watched his videos very much later than most people. he seems really nice.
>>

No, no
I started improving when I stopped listening to people like him who pretend to be good. Never draw a head using circles and middle lines

His channel is great to find professional artists to learn from. His video with Aaron blaise changed my life because it introduced me to Aaron blaise. But proko himself is infuriating to listen to and I completely disregard his advice. To this day I cant finish the podcast with James Gurney, Marshall, and proko because proko wont shut the fuck up! I dont care about anything he has to say. I think hes a soulless grifter that doesnt actually care about art but he found a great way to make money on youtube

No, and his methods feel too arbitrary and at times even dead.

Just go for the real thing, Glenn Vilppu

No he is annoying as fuck.
He had good guests on podcasts but he is too retarded to handle even basic conversation.
>>
>>7954034
he hasn't helped me but I have helped him.
>>
>>7954034
No. No.
Beginners shouldnt grind gesture
>>
Yes, I like him, he helped me a lot
When I started, I was completely lost anon, he gave me a good starting point

His interviews and videos with other artists are cool. I'm glad those exist. But as for his own original content, no not really. He's just another constructoid. And a pretty mediocre artist tbqh

His courses are ok but he was smart to expand his business to include other (better) artists. I appreciate all the free youtube content and he's based for actually letting you download the courses you buy on his site.
