I am /beg/ and he is high-/beg/ to intermediate. We agreed to take a painting class together and halfway through he gave up and left me alone in the class because he kept whining about how bad his art looks and how he can't draw in public.

Any tips on making better art friends whether online or IRL?

The best way to make friends is to actually talk and invest in places where artists gather. Keep going to the class to improve your skill and maybe join some art servers(usually have lots of /beg/s)
