Yakuza used to be big then after the 80s they were turned into a Mickey Mouse media mafia like what happened to the Italians. If you watch older Japanese media they used to romanticize yakuza as anti-heroes and they would actively recruit delinquents. Mexico is the real deal, probably the strongest arm of organized crime in the world in terms of firepower. Italian crime was mostly absorbed by the US their organized crime originated from Freemasons like Giuseppi Mazzini/Carbonari, hell P2 was relevant in Italian politics until the 80s. Arguably still today since Berlusconi was part of the lodge.
