My first playthrough of this was a Brujah shooter. oWoD lore is intentionally written in an ambiguous manner, the books say it over and over. In-universe explanation is that the members of various splats and conspiracies only know a fraction of the truth, and have very limited and biased views of each other and the universe. When you're dealing with centuries of history of secretive cults and magic society things tend to get blurry.

Out of universe explanation is that oWoD lore functions more as a series of hooks to create your own stories, rather than something set in stone to simply follow as law. You get a bunch of rumors, urban legends, myths, and conspiracy theories and pick which ones you think are cool to be true, and throw out the ones you don't like.

Arch-mages have unlocked many of the secrets of the universe but good luck finding one of those guys anywhere on earth. Faeries and Werewolves are mostly retards. On average as a group the Technocratic Union might be the most well informed, because they see keeping tabs on the supernatural world as their duty.
