I want to start this massive serie, Owari no Chronicle is shorter but apparently a rewritten version is coming soon (it looks worse though?).
Which one is the better work?

OnC is nice and all and Sayama is one of the most entertaining protagonists I've seen in Japanese light novels, but I had more fun reading Horizon.
The ensemble cast, the retarded politics, the historical side of things give more meat to the story.
That said, some concepts introduced in OnC are reused again in Horizon so you might as well start with OnC.

The rewrite uses a chatbox style for the dialogues and I personally hate it. I couldn't get into Godless Planet because of it.

I see, I think I will start OnC then. I'm just afraid that this length is only due to worldbuilding and that the story itself is just average (I've already wasted enough time on Chinese webnovels), I like worldbuilding but the most important thing for me are the characters.

That's why I said it looks worse lol, reminds me of the horrible korean manwha and novel formats, made for mass consumption
