Traversing this feels like blacksouls chaos dungeon, with how small and random the maps are.
It's an interesting choice that maps can only have one entrance and multiple exits. I guess this prevents sections of the map to be closed-off(unless someone puts all the exists OOB), but also forces the whole game to have tree structure. Ie there is no loops, you only either traverse deeper until you reach some end or backtract.

This doesn't really let you create a fangame. It's more like mario maker where you submit your maps and connect them to other peoples' worlds forming one communal collage of dreams. Kind of like yume 2kki except anyone can add stuff. The in-game editor is also super easy and runs in browser.

You must be talking about a different 2kki than Yume 2kki. Foreign additions have an additional layer of quality checking that puts the name of the quality checker on the line, and a majority of these additions aren't even by your typical westerners. If you're going to bring up issues you have with 2kki, at least make sure they have some basis in reality or even just your own opinion, and if your point is to mock the complete lack of quality checking then don't randomly bring up a completely unrelated game in the first place.

You'd be surprised but these days YN has a lot of overlap with Deltarune's and other adjacent fanbases, OMORI fans straight up ship their protagonist with Madotsuki and there's the whole Toby Fox interview with Kikiyama that keeps bringing these people over to check the game out, YNO also attracts those kinds who use the games as social spaces of sorts.
Yume Nikki has been sort of colonized by westerns these days, sadly, I've seen it compared to Earthbound of all things in multiple places. It's also weird seeing Mado along with all the other western IPs in that one fangamer store they opened in tokyo.
