Another semi-recent Otomate game Byakko has a 20yr MC with a couple of LIs being 15 and 17. Kinda ruined by the fact that the characters look basically the same age as the other LIs who are 45 and 38.

45 is treating him well I guess... the 15 y/o also looks pretty grown.I thought the MC was a cute androgynous boy

>didn't post for a few days

Wow, this is such bullshit. Do I seriously have to spam nonsense daily? Fucking retarded.

If you don't have the basic tier role from daily dick sucking and reddit-tier posting, it's over. The people and "conversations" there are so basic bitch and vapid, it's exhausting as fuck.
It's more ideal to buy your shit at this point and report this place to the feds for hosting lolishit so they can take it down.

I was also surprised because it feels like anything with an MC over 21 is always contemporary and most likely office/workplace based. I wouldn't expect it from fantasy.
Though the ages of the casts in otome have been creeping up for years. It used to be fairly unusual to have an adult MC at all, and every other game had a high school setting where the majority of the cast was 14-18.
They're probably aware that the audience is aging and that no teens are actually playing console otome any more.

jlpt vocab level categorization is kinda flawed so It's hard to pick something specific for n2.
Even some of the easier otome games (like amnesia, ayakashi gohan, cupid parasite) all have approx 1:0.8~0.9 ratios of n2:n1 vocab used. This being 25~35% coverage for each level, where the actual percentage per game is largely proportional to the game length/character count. So it's not a small amount, but likely they're the more common words with lots of overlaps between games.
Similarly for some of the more difficult bl vns (checked mebiusline, 24ku, ooe), they each cover 50~55% n2 and 45~50% n1 vocabs from decently comprehensive jlpt vocab lists. Anything that actually makes the games more difficult are words that are so difficult or specific to the vn themes that they're not even covered by jlpt.
imo it makes more sense for regular vn readers to put in a bit more effort and skip to n1. But If you MUST do n2, obviously something with a higher coverage of n2 words is better than nothing. Make sure it's something you'd enjoy though and go into it knowing that you might be under & over studying at the same time.

I most recently played Room No.9 after suddenly being in the mood for it. Really loved the suspense and psychological elements. I personally would've preferred a little less focus on sex, with a little more alternative tasks to balance it out (like thephysical harmtasks even though those make me far more squeamish). But if they were going for a nukige with an interesting concept and tense environment then I think they did a good job.

You know that there are still bunch of vita otome that are unplayable on emulator to these days right?
And people also have the consoles to play non-visual novel games since those don't run that smoothly on emulator.

Finished dmmd for the first time, it was unfettered slop and not in a good way. Started lesson right after and finished endings A and B. I think at first blush the twist seems a bit contrived, but I'll be patient, especially since the writing has a strong voice and the dialogue is really nice. Is it handled well anons? I'll admit that my favorite parts are the slice of life scenes and slow character development, so I'm not sure about where the plot seems to be headed.

My bad anons, I mean the retarded dog from VariBari, not the Buraha one. I'm thinking of temporarily switching to another VN after I complete his route since I'll be depressed if Ichiya and Taiga's routes ends up disappointing me too.
>>
>>
>>50984221
Non spoiler reasons are that his obliviousness/naivety is the main point of contention in his route and its not fun to read, at least not as funny as it was in the common route since it leads to a lot of dull misunderstandings. That combined with Hibari's tsundere personality makes reading their interactions feel like a waste of time. Maybe I'm not built for dumb LIs even though I thought I would love him.
For spoiler/specific reasonsI'm 2/3rds into his route and only now is he realizing that his face heats up and feels funny around Hibari. He still hasnt even realized its "love". Does he even know what the concept of love is? Who knows. Maybe he will come to that conclusion in the final chapter and the credits will roll. Hibari is also a part of the problem. If you fall in love with someone who has a brick for a brain then you should probably just be direct about it instead of doing stupid schemes like tricking him into re-enacting your favorite movie in hopes that his brick will transform into a functioning brain topped with feelings for you. The other LIs were also helping out later on with plans of their own which was pretty cute but at some point it started to feel like they were all forcing him to like her back kek.
There are some good bits sprinkled in between this annoying stalemate they have but tldr Nayuta has been demoted back to DOG in my books until further notice
>>
>>50982727
Similarly disappointed by dmmd. I think people just love it because it was their first BL, like a lot of otome players with Amnesia
>>50984337
I think I love him for the same reasons you hate him. They're just two fucking idiots and it's amusing to watch since you don't really get that in otome games (there are stupid protagonists I guess but they have personality either). also gap moe is strong

The goddess of tears crowdfund ends on May 31st, and the alt mc version that includes incest is crowdfund limited. I'm sure someone will eventually share the games within their ultra sekrit clubs to farm likes, but putting out this reminder in case no one wants to deal with all that.

Finally got around to reading Shinigami to Shoujo. Is it normal for the Switch port to have such dogshit audio quality and text? I might as well play the Vita port if that's the case. Good game so far though.

Do you guys ever write your own impressions on VNs you've read? I realized that I forgot quite a lot of stuff that happens in games I played a few years ago, so now I'm thinking maybe I should start writing about it either as I play or once I complete/drop a VN. The blogging era of the internet has somewhat died but I'm curious if anons keep any reviews or personal notes or logs while they play
>>
>>51001673
I do on the BLgame r*dd*t.
I'd love to do it on otomegames but the "what are you playing" threads are weekly and i'd rather give my opinion when I'm done with the gane.
I gave also thought of creating a blog butbI don't like writing detailed reviews.
>>
>>
>>
>>51001673
I have a private blog that I've made but have only very rarely used. I found that I like going back and reading my past impressions, so I'm thinking of trying to update it a little more often to ramble a bit about my thoughts on games I finish.
I have no desire to view my hobbies from a reviewer's perspective, so it will remain casual and private.
A shame the support banners developers used to provide for games have faded out of use since personal sites aren't much of a thing anymore; those are fun to decorate my blog with.
>>
>>51001673
No, but I do take screenshots.

Just write a couple of sentences on VNDB. It's enough, no matter how short, and very useful for people like me.

Same. Have a library of txt file commentaries that go back like 6 years.
It doesn't feel like I'm really playing a VN without having one on hand. When I used to play otome games on my commute the first thing I did when I was home was type up my thoughts on what I had been playing.
Would never publish them though. I used to have a weird anxiety about having bad taste in games/boys and that I'd be judged for it, and now I don't really care to, there's enough people out there giving their otome takes.
>>
>>51001673
Yeah, I keep a private notion page for myself, and moved over all my old txt files here too. For a while I used to make notes/tsukkomi as I went while adding screenshots and stuff but I noticed I was putting in way too much effort and it was holding me back from progressing the VN. Those write ups are really fun and nice when I go back to read them, but now I limit myself to only jotting down thoughts at the end of sessions/chapters/choices. Sometimes there are VNs I'd get so engrossed in and forget to write anything down, but usually those are VNs that were impactful enough to me to leave a long lasting impression or I wouldn't mind forgetting just so I could read it again.

Yeah sometimes. Either after I finish it or writing along while I'm playing it. It's nice to rant about stupid shit and then you can remember things better later on.
Like I randomly opened my 7scarlet txt to look at it and kek I don't even remember having this problem, I fucking hated that game

>Read autistic guy's route
>He's just autistic and weird, MC has 0 idea how to talk to this guy or react to him, no chemistry on any conceivable planet
>Plot happens
>Suddenly cured of autism and becomes a regular prince charming and they're just a happy couple
It was so bad
I read the entire thing because there was supposed to be brother content and I wanted to beat my head in when I found out I'd been bamboozled yet again
>>
>>
>>51003789
The plot premise is supposed to be about finding your missing brother, but basicallyin the "true route" he pops up to explain the rest of the plot to you, reveals he's actually a skinwalker that just brainwashed you into thinking he was your brother for a few years, they kiss and he keels over and dies.I felt like a clown

You can just lurk and search topics only. A couple of them have game discussion separated by threads. Generally smaller ones are less obnoxious but in general, there is always gonna be a few tranny retards mixed in. That's the nature of it.

I like stat raisers in general, but I feel like Tokimeki runs go on for way too long. You can be finished with the requirements for your intended boy by early year 2 and then you're just dicking around from there. The fat game was better since it only did one year and the characters had more meaningful content.
That said Tokimeki's hidden characters are great
The appeal for me is just the bit of management, optimization, and the observable scale of time over the course of the story
>>
>>51004591
Going after just one guy per playthrough can indeed make the tokimemo games feel too easy and repetitive. But the bulk of enjoyment and replayability comes from the special modes they have like 3p, best friend, angel/devil. Or going in with the collectionist mindset trying to juggle affection level for certain lines or events with super specific triggers, seeing different reactions based on different affection levels, getting different ending blurbs with your guy based on where you end up after graduating, etc.
I definitely wouldn't be doing a bunch of different runs in a row but there's nothing quite like it when I'm in the mood for it.

>>51004675

>>51005890
It just feels like the daily routine can get old quickly. Once the initial excitement of figuring out how the system works is over, it starts to feel like doing a chore.
I also think the interactions with the LIs in this type of game feel way too superficial, probably because you always have to pick the right things to say and do in order to trigger flags.

Checked it out, and it's actually pretty decent for an MTL. It's kind of crazy how many companies are just mtl their stuff now instead of hiring actual translators, then charging people for it on top of that.
It's obviously nowhere near perfect, and there's still a lot of nuance that gets lost in translation. But with how quickly AI is improving, it's hard not to see it replacing a lot of jobs. And not just translators either, plenty of companies are already using AI instead of hiring artists, writers, and even voice actors.
Nothing will ever beat a fan translation made by people who are genuinely passionate about the work. That said, I can still appreciate the effort someone put into making an MTL patch. Without mtl, a lot of these games would probably never reach more than a handful of people.
That's why I don't really have a problem with MTLers as long as they're buying the games and helping keep this dying VN genre alive. If an MTL patch gets someone to buy a game, that's great. Even if some people pirate it but end up spreading the word, leading to more sales down the line, I can't say I mind that much.

Blvn situation is super grim. Read the core b magazine and only carnelians game is the one coming out. But still it has only one LI. The rest are all gachashit or have one LI or/and are less than 2 hrs long. And half magazine has otome news on top of that. This hobby has already died. Seeing a lot of fujos turning into otome out of desperation.

I think for me, as someone who likes that I can just continuously read more of the story in VNs, simulation elements feel like an obstacle that interrupts that.
And some of the few I've played seem to give you interactions with the characters in the form of disjointed dates that feel like they could happen in a random order, so it's not the kind of romance buildup I enjoy.
I'm sure here're some sims that I'd love and I do want to try more at some point, but generally I gravitate toward games that are just purely VNs.
