Unironically it's because she has no character or real meme songs or even just memes in general. Following from that discussion in the previous thread. Vocaloids as characters serve as blank templates/canvases to warp and do whatever with, but IA has absolutely nothing to give her template any flair to incentivize using it as a starting point. It's not the blank template in a word document, it's one of those obscure ones to the right that you don't know what's for and don't ever have any reason to use. One of the most "she existed" vocaloids out there. It's arguably more sad to get popular then fall off over just being a wholoid in general.
>>
>>50992224
Ironically I feel like that's why Adachi Rei is so popular right now. UTAUs tend to have canon personalities and gimmicks. When you combine a unique vocal type with both that and the ability to monetize, producers jump on it.

Robot also offers a lot more meme possibilities than kuudere. Which is ironic since they're all already sort of robots. However Rei's a real life robot. A robot robot. A double robot if you will.

She does have a character, if you search through some voiceroid stuff you can find some. All of her fans have a tacit understanding of what kind of character she is, with some believable variants. Even in some official music videos and concerts where she actually appears you can see First Place tried to give her a character. It's just that she never really took off because all of her popular songs do not feature her as a character. No one big wanted to adopt her character. It's a similar issue with flower and arguably Kafu as well. But unlike flower or Kafu, IA grew up when vocaloid was at it's worst point in history. Kagepro hype peaked around 2015 together with the birth of Orangestar, and since then she was truly big. Unfortunately, those were Vocaloid's weakest years which only recovered around Covid (2019-2020), but by that point flower provided some serious competition and she eventually fell off. People may not realize it, but IA was a twilight idol. A star in the lonely void. She was there when most people stopped caring. I am here to remind people of it.

>She does have a character, if you search through some voiceroid stuff you can find some
it doesn't permeate at all, though. not that no one wanted to adopt a character, it's more like no one could find any character at all. and whatever character there is, it doesn't really fit the visual design
>>
>>50993003
I'm saying it doesn't permeate because no one big is promoting her, on top of the fact that her popularity is during vocaloid's worst years. Just because her character isn't popular doesn't mean it doesn't exist. A character that doesn't exist would be the silhouetteloids, and she simply isn't one. I'm not sure what you mean by not fitting the visual design, I think it fits her well and her character.
You'll understand what I mean if you're part of the few people deep in her fanbase. I notice they're mostly Japanese though, and I think it's because IA just was never popular in the west despite the international concerts. I vaguely remember some few hundred thousand view songs with comments that are exclusively in Japanese and a VocaDB entry with 2 like or so. She may be the weakest member in the Special Relief Committee but the fact that she's there is proof enough that people (at least the Japanese) cared about her and some still do. 32ki bought her voicebank after all.

>Just because her character isn't popular doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Oh I'll give you that, but I'm saying it's a cruel cycle. She has a character but it is obscure, so she needs someone big to adopt her, but how can someone adopt her if they don't know anything about her?
The only solution to this would be if that certain someone really likes her as a character and also happens to be really big. Unfortunately, I find it is usually one or the other.

It's more like they didn't push that hard enough when they had the chance. I mean, I'm not the only one out there (yet) who really loves her, and I daresay they are even more autistic about her than me (I need to do better lol). There isn't anything inherently wrong with her character in my opinion, a lot of her problems can be attributed to First Place mismanagement, among other things.

Thinking about it some more. I think the greatest strength isn't having character, it's having no character. Which in turn becomes every character. IA suffers from having a bland character, not no character at all. Miku as the normal blank template means she's gone nearly the entire range from insane comedic meme songs to extremely depressing and everything in between. What makes Kasane Teto insane is she's somehow filling every gap Miku didn't manage to fill as well as everything being a duo partner covers.
From the last couple of weeks alone
>Miku's challenger
>gay budding love interest
>dog thief
>zombie killing flash game like clone death march gauntlet
>dark priest/AI standin
>cute genie
Teto's somehow gotten a lot of the more masculine and straightman roles when foiling, but can trivially become feminine or comedic to flip to the other side of things. Truly an every character. Honestly, probably the most impactful thing to ever happen for Teto's success was possibly Channel putting her in pants and suspenders for Mesmerizer. Teto's original character isn't really much of anything being a fake Miku knockoff made from April Fools, however that ended up branching out in many different ways. A direct copy, a fake lamenting being a copy, a gag character/comedian, a rival, a supporter, a foil, a love interest, and really, anything that can pair with Miku. Inversely, anything somebody like Miku would pair with which is what makes her range so extreme. I'm not sure what I would peg Teto's character as anymore. Nor could I Miku besides generic idol which is not what people do with her.
The problem in the end is people didn't experiment or meme with IA and what little character she does have constrains her. If you imagined a crazy ass meme song with her, what would she be like in it?
>>
>>50993828
>IA suffers from having a bland character
Highly subjective. If you don't like her, you can just say it, you know.
>what little character she does have constrains her
>what would she be like in it?
She can be literally anything? She isn't artificially limited. There's nothing saying IA can't be memed, it's all limited by the producer's imagination, like any other loid. She doesn't have Fukase levels of permissions so you can use her however you want.

As you can see, it is true she isn't "memed" a lot but can you really call her bland and limiting when people have used her in a variety of ways? As I already said, she fell off during a period where character songs just weren't commonly done so even with most of these she never really stuck with people.

this don't prove shit. they probably learned instruments and/or singing really young before using vocaloid because vocaloid literally barely existed before 2010.
This makes "late bloomers/late practicers" (you know, that feeling like when u see a 50 year old in college) feel the worst. It feels like anybody plays their instrument since they were 9 or 14. All I did was play games.

NTA but maybe it's just the songs I'm exposed to, but I also feel like Miku and Teto seem to have a nice distinction where Miku tends to play some "dream girl" character or is just generally someone to be desired, while Teto seems to be more relatable and almost self-insertish. Like, Monitoring and Liar Dancer are both, at their core, vaguely about self esteem and questionable methods of navigating through life, but Miku fills an almost messianic role as she reaches out to you while Teto tells a story about a fictional character who may be a little too easy to relate to. I know there's probably a lot of songs for both that go either way, but I feel like those characters at least lend themselves to those roles well.

Adachi Rei is pretty interesting to me because I can't really imagine what she'll sound like with a Vocaloid soundbank. Her being extremely robotic, in particular the robotic reverb, feels like her most unique point.
>>51001680
Miku used to have those songs. Probably the most famous tumbling through life song is Rolling Girl. Rather she still does, but the thing is and what you're touching at a bit, the vast majority are female/love troubles. Miku very heavily has a female identity. Teto's sort of weird in that she's also gained the male one. Self-inserting into Miku is difficult due to this for the male half of the Vocaloid fanbase, but Teto jumping around makes her something else. Teto ends up taking the contra role to Miku frequently, however she can still very clearly take the female side/identity like with the new Trap Chick song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXA0PEjkIGU
Heroine Request feels relevant to both my replies here. Rei's default duo partner is looking to be Teto. Though a huge ReiTeto boom doesn't seem likely even after her Vocaloid release.
Thinking about it, in general Miku is usually a solo singer with the vast majority of her biggest hits being just her. That changed after Mesmerizer and the Mikuteto boom. This duet strength however seems to be coming from Teto's side and it feels like she's easier to pair around than Miku.

NTA, because Teto's existence is to be Miku's rival. Her birth revolves around this. It's only fitting she got that comeback.
Going back to the IA discussion, IA is no one's rival. She was not made to be one. She was made to be different, even Lia commented about this, that she didn't like Miku's design but found IA's to be cute. Her general direction has been to go towards audiences completely unfamiliar with Vocaloid at the time. Her colors are less saturated and does not compete with Miku's pop star look, there was even an internal discussion at First Place at the time that they fear she might not sell well, but they went with it anyway after hearing Lia loved her. Even still, she still tries to get the attention of completely new fans, areas where she is completely unknown, like international tours in cities where not even Miku has even visited. She was born in a distant world, but she loves to brave the unknown, learning everything about it, and coexisting with it. She wants to befriend everything and everyone, the kind of girl who loves the universe truly for what it is. That is the essence of her character. Perhaps competition is what hypes up fans nowadays, and Teto is the perfect fit, and no doubt she deserves the spot today. With IA, I'm she sure she doesn't mind being a distant, faint star, but just know she'll always be there even when things get dark, just like the time when everyone seems to have forgotten the joy of listening to Vocaloids.
Keep in mind this is just how I interpret her character based on real events, promotions, what little official material there is, fanarts, and headcanons. Yes I am aware I am reading this too deeply, I just love her a lot.

Well her entire history, of course. She was born out of an April Fools following Miku's popularity, created as a "fake" vocaloid, twin drills instead of twin tails, follows Miku and the Kagamine's naming scheme, etc. Surely I don't need to explain her entire history to you, right? I'm not Tetobro.

>She was born out of an April Fools following Miku's popularity, created as a "fake" vocaloid, twin drills instead of twin tails, follows Miku and the Kagamine's naming scheme, etc
none of that means rivalry
>>
>>51002263
Well that's just how I read it. I mean she doesn't have to be a rival but she was made with parallels in mind. She could be lovers, friends, or enemies, depending on the song of course, but the parallels are there.

>just point out where did you get the "Miku's rival" thing from
not that anon but twindrill already talked about Teto being Miku "rival" in the pokemiku interview:

This argument seemed to have started on a pendancy. Teto was made to be an April's Fool joke that tricked people into thinking a new Vocaloid was coming out.
Whatever she is after the joke is over is simply what people end up using her for. One can ascribe a fate, pre or post, but ultimately what happens happens and there was never anything ordained for her. Just how things started and how you think that lead to the current state of things. There's nothing that needs to be cited as she and all the other Vocaloid's characters are a product of its cultural zeitgeist. To claim a need for citation for any particular aspect is absurd. One can claim an origin for more popular aspects, but they were never official in the first place and only gained a place due to momentum from fans. Miku is permanently associated with leeks because Orihime from Bleach spun one and somebody overlaid a song over it.
Her status as Miku's rival only really took over after her SynthV release and the Mikuteto boom. She was for a large part of her life, simply a side fan character to her. There may have been inklings of it here or there, but nobody would've considered her Miku's rival 10, rather not even 5, years ago. Looking at old art on Danbooru, over 90% of her posts are after her SynthV release. They start showing up at page 410 of 447. Her existence was just funny fan character before it. Neru got picked up from sheer association. Haku's still forgotten.
Right now, Teto is Miku's rival and PinoP has kind of cemented it. It just works.

yeah that was the point
"Teto exists to be Miku's rival" is not axiomatic; it's just a variant of many possible cases
>Right now, Teto is Miku's rival and PinoP has kind of cemented it.

>>51002841
that's more of a general Pokemon thing - everyone is a rival to each other there
Teto is just a versatile and recently very popular counterpart for Miku, where both have been adapted to the general themes of that world

I realize I may have been talking to Tetobro this entire time (From the small letters at least). Thank you for the discussion, I think I understand Teto a bit better now. The word I was looking for was not rival, rather, counterpart. I think it's fair to say there's enough room for her to be something other than Miku's rival.
>>
>>51001831
>Heroine Request feels relevant to both my replies here. Rei's default duo partner is looking to be Teto. Though a huge ReiTeto boom doesn't seem likely even after her Vocaloid release.
I do think it's interesting that Teto at least partially sprung up because of duoing with Miku, and now Rei seems to be springing up at least partially due to duoing with Teto. IDK if Rei will rise quite like Teto did, but if she does, there might come a trend of voice synths rising up by duoing with whoever the last trending one was. Might even become intentional where people intentionally try to pair their favorite synth with whoever was the latest trend.

It takes only 1 massive breakout hit to start a cascade, but those don't come by every day. Teto actually was having hits before Mesmerizer dropped, but most people won't argue Mesmerizer is what put her on the map. Rei's got the benefit of both being another shadow of Miku(the robot project was originally about creating a real life Miku before becoming Rei) and being very closely associated with Teto. Even with a huge hit, that would almost certainly just put her at trend level. The robotics project does offer a lot of potential venues for continued relevancy though. An actual real robot concert might end up making splashes outside of Vocaloid, but that feels quite far in the future.
At the very least, I'd like to see an epic space super robot battle with Adachi Rei fighting something with missiles. Maybe Dragon Teto or something.

>An actual real robot concert might end up making splashes outside of Vocaloid, but that feels quite far in the future.
I could see if sooner if they end up using technology from Boston Dynamics or something, but otherwise it might take a while. I can see it's moving, but it's on a stand, and not moving fast...
website so anyone can check it out, gotta find your way to youtube for more videos

>At the very least, I'd like to see an epic space super robot battle with Adachi Rei fighting something with missiles. Maybe Dragon Teto or something.
Rei fights like a KX security droid and you cannot convince me otherwise

HOSHINOHA is a new producer, so I believe this will be the first time they are getting posted here. The vibes are great and it's the first MEIKO song I liked in a while, so I checked out a good bit of the channel. Worth a sub if this kind of thing is your vibe.

New KasanaV. Many good lines but I laughed so much when Teto said "Blue Miku".

curiously, i noticed peeps at vocadb are calling PPP Sounds works ai-generated despite them actively posting short breakdown videos. any idea how this conclusion was created? or this is this just some kiddo's hate boner against em
>>
>>51009836
It's used whenever any aspect uses AI. For example, a one second visual clip or pattern in the background can get the AI tag slapped on it. If the music was AI, then PPP Sounds would be blacklisted from VocaDB entries entirely.
MASA got the tag on Flower Moon for a fucking pillow.
>>
>>51009843
so hate boner, kek
why are newgens even be able to contribute there in the first place
(btw i was referring to the fact that their work is actually being tagged as ai-generated music when lol has been posting breakdown vids.)
>>
>>51009836
at least some of their songs have that ear-grating high-pitched noise that many suno or whatever AI generated songs have
they wrote a community post that they use AI tools to remove noise and stuff but that's the exact kind of noise that AI generates, even if they compose and write lyrics themselves, the end result has quality issues
the breakdown clips themselves have a faint weird hiss too, as if using a tool to remove certain tracks from an already rendered song was used

so he did what i wanted to do 6 months ago. and considered to be too much to not cave to SV2.
but seeing it in action now...
>>51010043
this shit is exactly akin to hating even 10 years ago AI texture upscaling of like half life 1
and also it's as if people cant fucking remember all synthesizers are math and algorithms in the first place. noise limiters and shit have been in some of the first FL studios

>and also it's as if people cant fucking remember all synthesizers are math and algorithms in the first place. noise limiters and shit have been in some of the first FL studios
sure, but they're adding noise and it sounds bad
the whole morality of using AI argument is a separate point

I'm not defending PPP but as a producer the hiss is common when you overuse compression plugins like OTT and LOL does sound like he overuses it.
Also I miss LOL's art account. He nuked his twitter and now a lot of his art is lost.

A bunch of Vocaloids already skirt the line and the idea of tomboy would be trivially overwritten by shy girl in love after a few romance songs. Vocaloids don't have solidified characters, so starting setting matters very little. You'd have more luck going the other way around having the community establish and use a girly character as a tomboy.
Like how did we go from this...

To this.
I was actually having to pick over different types of tomboy Tetos.
>>
>>
>>
>>51017709
I mean people like to meme flower (from what I can find, hardly anyone talks about her nowadays) as non binary or at the very least tomboyish, which matches with the official art and direction where they intended her to be more androgynous. Also doesn't help that the other notable Gynoid loids (Meika sisters) are actually non binary. In this case the established character matches the official setting, or at least doesn't deviate too far from it.
>>
>>51017740
Flower is probably the furthest past the line, yeah. One could argue Rin, Gumi, and even Meiko have tomboyish aspects. The thing is tomboy is more about action than appearance. Which can only really be perpetuated by actual characterization through MVs and any media that uses them as characters.
Which sucks for Flower because all her biggest songs didn't feature her as a character at all.

I rather Rin and Miku songs, even Miku and Luka, most of the mikuteto songs are really similar so It gets tiring for me at some point, like, when mesmericer and obsolete meat were just realeased, I would have trouble to see which one is each, I get that they are produced by the same person but Candy cookie chocolate sounds really similar and is produced by hallo cell
