Good shit, op. If I were a billionaire I'd build my own experimental flying yacht based on a Catalina but larger and with modern systems, noise isolation and comfortable interior design.

Wish I lived near a place where I could volunteer to help maintain one of the remaining ones.

love PBYs one of the greatest airplanes of all time
One of the custom civilian upgrades post-WWII was replacing the R-1830s with Wright Twin Cyclone R-2600s for a Super Catalina

No, jet engines absolutely love having large amounts of seawater passed through them. Some of them do look just perfect though.

Ejection seats on those, if they were fitted, would require cold survival suits and O2. Because if you have to eject in a thermal column, you'll climb to 60k feet.

I am the OP,
that clearly specifies photographs of flying boats, floatplanes, seaplanes<--whatever you want to name them.

(also since this is /k/ Weapons, the photographs should be of military water-based aircraft, not civilian general aviation planes/ airliners)

Please don't *waste the 150-image limit* itt on random off-topic images. Thanks

you sorta compensate, but its smooth and predicable, and no "hunting on axis".

mini-wings/hydrofoils/WIG wings/anti-roll keels???

seems worth investigating. you go into hydrofoil mode first, to be able to get into water without waves slamming hull.

Then the little wings do some WIG, then they act as normal wings after climbing out of WIG.

Yes it's the old Consolidated Aircraft base of operations in SD, Coronado in flight over town just prior to U.S. entry into the war
Lindbergh Field, Consolidated's new headquarters under Reuben Fleet, is out of view to right of photo and North Island would be above out of view offshore.
