those ones are called pepperpot muzzle brakes, reduces recoil of course. Not sure what specifically is different about it in terms of effectiveness and operation compared to other muzzle brakes

Maybe its a bofors thing? I don't think I've ever seen anyone else using them.

Some of those were donated to Estonia in the 90s, briefly used then relegated to museum pieces due to the fact that the 105mm they use is actually not nato 105 but another type of 105. Used to see them on my way to work every day in front of the baltic defence college. Cool guns but outdated.

My favorite guns are WW1 left overs still in use during WW2.
My great-uncle originally trained on 60pdr medium guns, then converted to 18pdrs in anticipation of the regiment being equipped with 25pdrs, but when they turned up at Tobruk only had Italian 100mms and Breda 20/65s.
