Gun Show Edition
Post the gats you somehow managed to get from a gun show.
Recent News: Lots of AK parts kits coming in with barrels thanks to the ATF ruling. Lebanese FAL kits are also still in stock.

Pic related was like $200 4 or 5 years back. Missing the magazine. Bought a magazine for $120 from a Polish (I think) online store and crossed my fingers and hoped it would arrive, and it actually did. Nice shooting rifle. More accurate than my K31 and I think it’s more pleasant to shoot.

I finally had time to test the Canadian 303 British ammo that gunmagwarehouse is selling. I thought it was the same stuff Century has right now, but this stuff is Mk 7z ammo, so it has smokeless powder in it instead of spaghetti.
I bought 2 boxes. The ammo in both boxes didn’t have any corrosion, all the ammo looked good. I tested 20 rounds from each box and all 40 rounds went off without a hitch. It seems about as accurate as I could shoot it. None of the cases had split necks so I can get at least 1 reload out of them. I treated this as corrosive so I cleaned my rifles after my range trip. If it was like 50 cents per round I’d probably buy quite a bit of it, but since it’s around 75 cpr with shipping, I’ll probably buy a few boxes just to have it.

I intend to pick up some deer with it, I’m new to guns and hunting but I’m pretty sure anything the 30-06 can pick up (records for both deer and bear) the 7x57 Mauser can do the same. If 30-06 is Donkey Kong, 7mm Mauser is Cranky Kong.
>>
I met a nice kid with a 1917 Lee Enfield at the range and he wanted to take a look at my K98-k. I didn't realize he had it until he came up to me after the range closed. Anyway, it's pretty neat to see young people enjoying old guns.

>7x57 Mauser
7x57 and 9.3x62 will last you your whole life and never leave you wanting for more. You could even go down to 9.3x57 and be happy in North America. I personally think that exiting the far side and killing the tree behind your animal isn't helping anything. I would want the bullet to stop just under the skinnon the far side, with all energy transferred in terminal ballistics. Not carrying through and leaving the rest in a tree. But everyone has an opinion.

I was kind of thinking about a 9.3x62 as a bear gun, my state is demcucked but I do believe black bears are enough of a problem that they’ll open up a season for them in the next five to ten. It also would work and be available in Africa if I ever win the lottery and felt like taking on Cape Buffalo.

I've only ever bought one gat at a gun show and it was a first year USP in 9mm. As for surp, I think I won a matching K98k today, still waiting to receive my invoice for it.
>>

>9.3x62
Great cartridge.
Incredibly underrated in the US for some reason.
Side note: Some US-made 9.3x62 ammo is based on necked-up .30-06 cases and have an undersized rim, that can allegedly cause extraction issues, but It's not something I've personally encountered.
If you're using a kar98-based rifle with a fucknormous Mauser claw extractor, you're highly unlikely to encounter this issue.

My first M.95 remains the only gun I've actually got from a gun show. I traded a Remington 710 and $50 for it in 2012. 1919-assembled OWG-Steyr that went to Czechoslovakia and then Bulgaria.

Forgive the non-milsurp guns, this is my only picture and it’s a family picture.
Got my first milsurp at a gun show- an Arisaka type 38.
Funny back story to how I got it
>take Chinese gf hunting for pheasants
>she thinks it’ll be funny to whip me with a stick across my ass
>turn around and whip her with the stick and scream at her
>she says it was the scariest she has ever seen my face and knew she fucked up. Apologized profusely
>bag out early, leave for gun show
>man has a set up, she spots the type 38 on display and knows exactly what it was from Chinese dramas she watched as a child
>boomer is impressed she knows what it is, offers her a great deal, throws in bayonet for free
>she gives me the money to buy it, circa 2016 so prices weren’t outrageous yet
>we go to a range where she empties a box of ammo, declares it her favorite gun, and asks me to never get rid of her gun.
>her time in America is up and she leaves. Haven’t seen her since, but I still have her gun.

>Gun Show Edition
Funny enough, I just bought a type 99 from my local gun show, thought it was sold but when I saw it was still there and asked to checked the bore I just had to get it. I asked the seller if he had some wiggle room on the price, offered $500, but didn't want to go that low especially with the bore was, so he told me he would do $550 (he was selling it for $585) and bought it
>>
File: cleanaf.jpg (23.8 KB)
>>65165563
I know it's a shit pic, but it shows no use on the bore, it's so clean
>>
>>65165563
>>65165569
With a chrome-plated bore I'd be surprised if it didn't look good.
>>
File: IMG_2897.jpg (1.6 MB)
>>65165563
Looks like a nice 20th series. Kokura installed their sling swivels upside down for most of the 20th series. Very distinctive. Probably a little high on the price, but it's probably okay with at least the muzzle over, which you should totally not store locked on the muzzle as the plastic will deform under pressure.
I've got like 60 type 99s and I can tell you I've never seen one that didn't have at least a very good bore. Most are mint as no Type 99s would have had long service lives.

I was wo dering what series it was but the stmp is kind of hard to see a bit, I did wanted to get it a bit lower but he was a bit firm on the price so not too bad I guess. It's only my second Japanese rifle, it's next to my Type 38.
>>65165752
No Mum and no AA ladder sights
>>
>>65165826
>no mum or AA sights
thats ok, you didn't get ripped off or anything but those points are a good spot to beat someone up on the price a little. With shipping, FFL and all the other misc costs, $550 is what most people would probably end up paying online for a gun like that anyway.
The type 99 was the first mass produced military rifle with a chrome lined bore so its an expectation, not a selling point for it to be in good condition. Your rifle looks fine and I have seen people take way worse deals on jap surp so overall its perfectly admirable pickup

Finally found one for a good price online that wasn't a last ditch model, can't wait for it to get here. That aside, anyone know of a good way to blank adapt an SMLE in a non permanent way? I have an Ishapore 2A that I want to use those super cheap German surplus blanks in at an airshit milsim event, but I need a way to make sure hot gas isn't venting out the barrel totally unobstructed along with potential debris. Having looked around so far it seems like I'd have to have something fabricated

A Carcano from RTI lol. It was a dog, but ended up being a pretty rare 1st variant M38.
Lost it to the pawn shop. Been cleaning up my financial act ever since that shameful display myself nor my family will ever recover from
>>
>>65172922
The guys that fake k98s browse the k98kforum to find out how to make their fakes better. It's getting harder and harder to spot these days. Sometimes the only tell is the shape of the tips of the punches/stamps (U or V) of the fake numbers they use.
>rolled the dice
I picked up 2 k98ks on two seperate occasions, a bolt and stock m/m 1942 jp sauer and a stock m/m orbendorf prewar. After getting them, I found them to be wartime depot-repaired rifles. Pretty cool wartime history. I'm not sure it does anything to the value, still have to treat them as rifles with m/m, even though the stocks are correct.

Shame is a powerful motivator. We should bring back stocks in the public square. Hangings from the lamp posts and red letters should be on the table, too.

I rolled the dice on a Portuguese contract K98/M937B from Centerfire Systems a year or so ago. It was one of their bulk listings with bayonet rather than the individually listed rifles. I was expecting it to be in relatively rough but functional shape with a good amount of finish loss but it wound up being in pretty shape, and a really good shooter with a good bore too. Came with an original sling and front sight hood, only thing non matching was the stock, butt plate, and trigger guard screws.
>>
>>65172922
I rolled on an all matching G98 (I think like one screw isnt matching but I dont remember) for 600 bucks earlier this year cause it was a duffle cut and no one wanted it. I rolled because I have PTSD from fixing the duffle cut on my Type 99. Super easy fix. A dowel and some tightbond and we were all set. Just need to get a sawback bayonet

I’ve felt that same feeling when you win an auction and it’s for far less than you thought it would go for. Pic related is a legit Winchester Model 12 riot gun. Appears to have been refurbished post war. I studied the auction photos endlessly, researched a ton of info regarding Winchester 12 riot and trench gun markings, and bid somewhat cautiously. Won it for a price that even if it was a fake, I’d be mildly annoyed I overpaid a little for a good looking fake.
But thankfully it’s legit. This auction had a ton of fake 1897 trench gun clones, and I think many bidders didn’t realize they were fake.

Those forgeries are thankfully easy to spot in person. Names should be publicly dropped, but for all I know the prominent fraudsters are giving a cut to show promoters to keep quiet. Not an auction, but I bought picrel, a Polish Wz-29, for $200 at a flea market last fall. "The bore on it is just horrid, good luck." Old guy selling it lost his wire cutters, so I had to wait until we got back to my buddy's house to cut off the zip ties. It was just caked with layers of dust and cob-webs, that's it. Cleaned up beautifully and shoots quite well with heavier-grain 8mm.

The nicer one is a 1939 S/42K with two non-matching WW1 mags and a 1939 holster, all with Heer/Waffenamt marks. The beat-up one is an early 1920's DWM issued to the Weimar-era Berlin police, later had its unit markings stamped out and replaced with Third Reich Berlin police stamp. One mag, had to find the holster later. The safety is loose as shit, guess I need to find a replacement. Neither pistol is matching, and I paid under $1200 for each separately; I can't complain given the reality of Luger autist pricing. These are my only two for now.
>>
File: PXL_20260523_224207352.jpg (2.0 MB)
Hello /msg/ I come to you with a tale of woe and hope for help from one of the many freakishly knowledgeable autists that hang around here.
I acquired this 60s Yugo M57 for $150 during covid, it took me almost a year to find ammo for it. When I finally shot it it went about 4 bangs and then locked up. Like really locked up, like there's now rust on the back of the slide from where I had to bang it on a piece of farm equipment to get it to eject the case.
I naturally assumed it was an extractor issue, ordered one, a pin, and a spring. Replaced them and the spring that came out of it was no longer a spring, it provided absolutely zero bounce. So I assumed that would fix the problem. Took it to the indoor range yesterday and one bang, no ejection, and the exact same lockup. That is an empty case in there luckily, I was able to get it out by putting a cleaning rod down the barrel and mortaring it on the concrete.
Has anyone ever run into this issue? Any ideas what it could be? Should I just give it to the next gun buyback I find? I tried to remove the takedown pin while it was locked and it was hard stuck in place.
>>
File: Screenshot_20260523-180129.png (1.7 MB)
>>65177397
Oh and I should mention that it doesn't love to chamber and go into battery, like it can be a struggle. Could the chamber just be undersized? Is that a thing?
Pic of ejector spring because it was comically fucked.
>>
>>65177397
Have you field stripped it and noticed any parts/spots that are gouged or bent? If you had to bang that hard on it to free it up twice and the slide was caught on something internal, it probably noticeably wore on whatever it was catching on. How tight is the slide to frame fitment? Does a fresh cartridge drop freely into the chamber when you remove the barrel? Is the chamber itself pitted or mostly smooth?
>>
File: PXL_20260524_000048639.jpg (1.6 MB)
>>65177493
I didn't notice anything at first but I just went over it with a flashlight and peeled eyes. This hole is probably supposed to be perfectly round right?
As to your other questions yes a fresh cartridge drops in, the FTE case does not. Slide to frame is relatively smooth, a good bit of resistance until the barrel drops then not much. Chamber had a lot of brassy spots but no obvious pitting.
>>
File: 20_july23_yugo_24699f.jpg (46.0 KB)
>>65177573
Ehhh no, looks like the oblongness is how it's supposed to be. Fuck
>>
>>65177573
Your chamber probably isn't undersized or anything if a fresh cartridge drops in, but the spent case not doing so is a little weird. You shooting surplus ammo or new production?
>a good bit of resistance until the barrel drops
You mean until it drops out of the locking recesses in the slide? I only have a Type 54 Tokarev to use as reference here, but on mine as long as the hammer is cocked, the slide comes back very easily by hand. There is little resistance from the barrel unlocking and it's overall extremely smooth to cycle. Are there any burrs or metal peening on the barrel or slide locking surfaces? When you have the recoil spring and bushing removed, does the barrel drop easily into the locking recesses inside the slide or does it need extra force?
>>
>>65177766
Shooting new production PPU.
>You mean until it drops out of the locking recesses in the slide? I
Yea, once it drops down out of the slide recesses it's very smooth, but the unlocking is a little sticky. Like if I put some real force behind it it smoothes out but if I go slow it's super notchy for the first half inch of travel or so.
However with just the barrel and slide it drops in very easily, no resistance, I can't feel any burrs or machining defects in the area. Either on the slide or barrel.
>>
>>65177838
Kinda stumped on what the issue could be at this point now anon, sorry. It kinda sounds like something is out of spec, potentially in the frame where that barrel link sits. But your pistol looks like it's all matching and if it's from the 60's I doubt it would have stuck around that long with that issue, without being scrapped or cannibalized for parts. Last thought I have is if your barrel link swings freely or not when the barrel is free of the rest of the pistol. If it's really tight in its spot that might be the source of your problems.
>>
File: PXL_20260524_022504445.jpg (1.4 MB)
>>65177891
I appreciate the help anon, even if just to give me an idea what I should be looking for, I've never had a gun that doesn't work when assembled properly.
I have been fiddling with it and noticed that if I remove the hammer assembly thingy it moves a lot smoother. Like a lot. And the tiny section of slide rail is super worn down, on this side, the same section on the other side is completely black still. I think I might take a file to this bit and lower it down more.
>>
>>65177918
Glad I could be a little bit of help then. Was trying my best but yeah there's only so much that can be done to diagnose problems with a gun via just pictures and descriptions of it lol. Friend had a Luger once that was running really poorly and I couldn't diagnose the problem correctly over texting until he handed it off to me so I could fiddle with and test fire it.
>hammer assembly group
If it's running that much smoother and one side of the rail on it is that heavily worn compared to another, that might be your culprit, especially since the numbering on it doesn't match the others on your frame/slide, so it's a replacement part. Might wanna drop it in the frame for a sec and compare how that specific little rail looks/aligns with the frame's rails, could give you an idea of what side of it needs filing, but also might not. You prob don't need reminding, but go slow at it and keep checking for fitment every so often as you file
>>
>>65178039
One final question, to you or anyone with a Tok handy. When you're pulling the slide back, just as the back of the ejection port is clearing the barrel can you see that bar of the hammer group tilting upwards? The bar is the part marked 1324 in my last pic. I'm wondering if that's just regular communist made gun slop or if mine really fits that poorly.
>>
>>65178117
In my Type 54 Tok, I can't see any upward tilt on that bar, or any really noticeable play for that matter while pulling the slide back at any point. You might benefit from buying a different M57 hammer assembly and seeing how well it works depending on just how badly your current assembly fits aside from that rail section. Wouldn't be a cheap option though. Apex doesn't have any in stock but there are a couple of listings on Ebay
>>

Is the cross pin that goes through that link bent? Probably attached to your slide stop. Not familiar with M57s but it happened to another handgun of mine after breaking that link, so in addition to those problems I also probably need a recoil spring. Might be your handgun's issue? I remember it fucking up how the gun cycled a little.

What's the worst bore on a surp that you guys have and does it still shoot decently or is it a lost cause? Shooting my M91/30 has decent rifling but frosted made me realize how much I hate cleaning pitted bores.

"Refurbished" M1917 Enfield from RTI. Overall actually a fairly solid rifle, but my God was the bore fucked. It was badly pitted which on its own sucks but pitted bores can shoot well still, especially when the rifling is still very visible. Problem was (I think) the barrel was bored oversized by Remington back in 1918. My muzzle wear gauge could go halfway down the barrel before it stopped. Result was 2 foot wide groups at 15 yards and keyholing. Resulted in an almost year long pain in the ass to put a new Criterion barrel on it and it shoots fine now, just required spending about as much as the rifle itself cost when I bought it
>>
>>65179680
I had a Krag that looked like a carpet bomb went off in the barrel. Thing was so pitted I could see the pits just looking into the barrel without a light.
To be honest Im not even sure how it got that bad because I dont think even corrosive ammo could've caused THAT much pitting

My Enfield has been shot to nearly a smoothbore. I was concerned about it when I first got it but it holds minute of man and it's not like i'm gonna go through hundreds of rounds of 303 at $1.50 each.
Besides it's pretty enough I don't need to shoot it much to like it.

It's amazing the level of damage that can be done by storing a gun in a closet in a home located anywhere near a humid climate. Normies will forget they own a gun then find it 40 years later.
I live in the upper Midwest and unless it's winter, I have to check my guns for rust every month.

Not sure where else to ask so I'll ask here.
I'm interested in collecting uniforms, medals, equipment, etc. from the cold war era. Mainly US Vietnam, UK Falkands, possibly Russian Afghani war stuff or other soviet memorabilia. Local surplus shops don't have much, I as able to get a few pieces of US cookware and one actually had a DPM smock. I see a lot online but I can't really authenticate it as real, a know a lot of shit like medals are cloned.
Where would be the best place to buy this sort of auts online? Especially UK/RU stuff since I'd have to import it anyway.

In my limited experience handling three legit Yugo sniper/DMR setups (two M48's, one SKS) they look bubba'd because that's how most of them were set up in the 90s. Every side copied examples they pillaged from former JNA armories. You're using a relevant scope/mount combo, I say go for it.
Idk how much of this is accurate, but here's an old reference:
https://texastradingpost.com/yugosniper/m48sniper.html
>>
>>65180993
I know you said online, but consider this alternative. I regularly see Cold War uniforms/gear at flea markets, large gun shows, and any antique mall with a booth of military items. Foreign post-WW2 stuff is often priced cheaper, mislabeled as being from the wrong country, or just "unknown ammo pouch $10." It isn't worth enough money for every category of item to be a minefield of convincing fakes yet. If you are used to buying WW1/WW2, this will seem very easy and fun in comparison, for a lot less money.
>>
>>65180469
Outside of inheriting surp from friends and family, that's the best deal I've heard of in many years. What's the story behind it, did the seller think something about it was broken or just really needed the cash?
>>
File: 20250122_153028.jpg (3.8 MB)
Boys, I have some money on the side and would like to expand my collection a bit.
In your opinion, what rifle is the most likely to go up in value ? I'm not planing to sold anything, I just want to be able to get some cool stuff before they are unobtainable. I don't want to live the mosin situation again.
I already have a MAS36 and a Swedish Mauser.
I was considering a Persian Mauser or a Carcano.
>>
>>65184897
From a pure profit standpoint your best option will always be fresh surp of any kind. It floods the market and no one wants it and they're cheap as fuck, then a couple years later there are none left and the price doubles or triples.
Right now that's probably all those $250 Star 30Ms
>>
>>65184897
The K31 supply has got to be running out of juice at some point in the near future. I was able to find a super nice one for $500 last year and I really don't think there are going to be many opportunities like that left. The build quality and materials are extremely high for milsurp of this era and the swiss autists collect this family of rifles like they are luxury watches.
>>
>>
File: IMG_2173.jpg (1.8 MB)
>>65184897
M8, buy what interests you, not what you think will go up in value. Your average shit won't go up any appreciable amount that matters. Some might even drop. The common surp out there that is easy to find now will be easy to find 10 years from now.
>>65185023
>The K31 supply has got to be running out of juice at some point in the near future.

Ignore the dead space in pic, didn't wanna fuck around resizing pics constantly. Type 99 finally got here today, probably among the nicest condition and cleanest surplus I've ever bought aside from maybe my K31. Not too surprising since this one was a museum piece and is more than likely an occupation bringback.
>>
File: IMG_1772.jpg (1.4 MB)
>>65185524
Almost all Type 99s are occupation bringbacks lol. The stock has probably been sanded and refinished though. It's an early 24th series and the stock should be rougher than it is. These are all 24th series rifles >>65185390 and they have nice "chatter" on the wrist. Unfortunately, later rifles like that are commonly sanded. I guess everyone in the 50s and 60s hated the rougher cut stocks.
I guess it could also have been restocked.
That serial number range it might have been using the short push in cleaning rod.
Pic also related, they are 25th series rifles.

>If you are used to buying WW1/WW2, this will seem very easy and fun in comparison, for a lot less money.
My WW2 collection is tiny for that reason. I snagged a mosin as my first gun back when they were cheap with everyone importing crates back in the day and a few smaller trinkets like can openers and an entrenching tool, but that's about it.

People that are stuck in 2005 will tell you you got raped bc it’s a 12.50$ USD rifle
But that’s a nice SKS for the current going price. The Russians are nice, I like Chinese ones because of the chrome lined barrels. Also the Chinese made SKS rifles longer than anyone, so they got bretty gud at it. Look for a Norinco next, there’s so many of them it’s a rifle you won’t mind scratching up in the woods and beating on.
>>
>>65196348
Honestly body weight is probably best. Military press is on of my favorite lifts, it’ll do wonders for your upper body.
Tuck it to your shoulder tight. It will bruise you. My mausers are my favorite rifle to shoot because you kinda get pissed off at it. It makes every round special, you send it down range with hate and grit your teeth, very fun and analogue experience you won’t get in modern rifles.

Oh yeah, I've owned a couple of Chinese SKS(es?) in the past. Always wanted a Russian just to round out my collection. Is it true that 1911s will explode if you slingshot the slide? I had a boomer claim that if you use the slide release on an empty chamber or slingshot it any time (either empty chamber or with a live round), the sear spring will shatter.

Yes but no. Pretty much gun sellers didnt want cheetofingered broke fucks playing with 2 or 3k 1911s with 1.5 lb triggers. Cause 100 people testing the trigger and not buying the gun will turn that finely tuned 1.5 glass break to 5lb rough sandpaper that the actual person with money wont want to buy.
If its a normal ass 1911 its doesnt matter slingshotting and dryfiring wont do anything.

I found this on marketplace.
The fact it runs and drives saves you all the time and at that price is a bargin. Granted having to fabricate and weld new steel plates wherever there is plywood would be a bitch and expensive. But $10k for the vehicle then stick $20-25k in restoration and I could flip it for an easy $65-75k to a collector.
But an M3 scout car for bumming around and doing ice cream runs sounds like fun.
Best part is I can store it long term at a veterans museum in Oshkosh that would probably cream there pants seeing this bad boy.

Do you guys think the Carcano in 7.9x57 or 7.35 would be more accurate than the 6.5? I'm also considering a Styer M95-s.

>>65208282
I strongly disagree with>>65206511 assessment of N.5 accuracy. The "wandering zero" is a myth concocted to conceal the flinching of shooters accustomed to the No.4 rifle unprepared for the increased recoil and muzzle blast of the shorter, lighter No.5.

8mm conversions and 7.35 carcanos are slightly harder to find than the abundant 6.5 ones. 7.35 is pretty available online though. Generally, Carcanos arent known for their accuracy outside of a specific street in Dallas Texas so any of those calibers are going to give you eh results. So go with whats more available to you if thats what matters more

It also seems like the 7.35 ammo is unobtainium whereas 6.5 is readily available online.

Thanks I'll take it into consideration. Considering how many no4s were chopped down into jungle carbines for American sportsman, they couldn't have been that terrible for hunting.

>Carcanos arent known for their accuracy
Carcanos are perfectly accurate; its finding the right sized bullets that is difficult. Or you can be like PPU and make the right sized bullet, yet use an undersized bullet on the 6.5 ammo they load.

>$300+ STEN MK II kits
>super rusty $280 Pioner Romanian kid's air rifle (these were like $40-70 on WaC a piece)

not a gun show but egun.de:
a carcano for 100 eurinos
and it shoots very well
the bayonet did cost 2x the rifle
the spaghetti are the real deadly thing inthis pic

I took my doggo, the No4, and my web gear for an autismo trail run this morning. Honestly the weight wasn't bad at all. I think the extra 1.5lbs is worth the significantly increased accuracy, reliability, and reloading mechanics over the Carcano cavalry carbine. If I still want a carbine later, I'll likely save up for an M1.

Guess I’m not gonna luck out and get some guns for half of their going rate. Gonna have to actually place real bids for the stuff I kind of want.

I was gonna say something about Lever Nuggets being like Johnsons in that they've both exploded in value for no real reason, but I guess the prices have stabilized lately. I remember seeing them going for like $7k-$10k a few years ago.

Yup, still expensive.

For early 1880/70s 11mm and such rifles such as Gras and Mauses, what do anons uses as reloading brass? brass shot shells? or do you wait around from custom lots?
I want to maybe get into that era of rifles, but want to figure out a source of brass first.
