>>65191154 Simpsons has a Steyr Mannlicher AG M in 6.5 Swede and it has some of the nicest Walnut I've seen on a semi modern rifle ever. I'd kill to add a scope or even modify those crappy backup open sights >link: https://www.simpsonltd.com/products/Z71482
>>65191375 Yes but I'm too autistic and I'd have to find one that matched the aesthetics and fit, I'm not just putting my Vortex Viper gen II 1-6 sfp on it. Less optimal but a more narrow tube would be kino but also maybe something more 'game hunter-y.'
>>65191423 Honestly it depends on the gun. The consignment ones have stupid prices because the sellers demand it. Their Swiss rifles I find to be extremely fair. I cherry picked out my favorites years ago mostly from them. One day you'll see a PTR + 20 mags and tons of accessories for like 1500, the next day it is a WWII .22lr german training rifle for 15k. Just gotta check.
>>65191382 I know what you mean. If more companies just offered gloss finishes as a standard option it'd really help. It's getting harder to find an old school new scope that's not a richfag euro option
>>65191089 God i love the SG 550 rifle so goddamned much. All the reliability of a kalashnikov with the engineering precision provided by Sig Sauer.
I am still so pissed at Siggy for being gay cunts about the rifle, they could make a fortune importing them or building them in the US but they got burned on their first generation and bitched out, so now the US market is basically AR or AK platform to infinity. Would have been nice to have a third option, if a more expensive one.
>>65192511 checked, I don't love it 'so much' but really like them, and want a few Bush 1989 ban was unAmerican the 556 was an abortion (as is nuSIG USA) It's one of the best modern military rifles
>>65191154 >>65191254 >>65191366 I will never understand the appeal of Mannlicher stocks. To each their own but I never seen a rifle with one that wouldn't look better with a Schnabel or Hartford.
>>65191706 it looks like trash anon, non-ARs shouldn't have AR stocks especially non-folding AR stocks.
i mean ffs just put on one of those magpul ones that kinda looks like the original 550 ones
>>65192511 Sig SAUER has nothing to do with the 550. Sig Sauer is an American company. Sig arms AG which was a whole different company known for its quality died in 2000. And when Sig Sauer brought the 550 to the US they made this piece of shit with terrible quality issues >>65191706 and everyone hated it and didn't buy it.
>>65192548 I have read about how the FX05 is theorhetically better due to adding metal reinforcing members that double as heat sinks and Valmet pattern gas block paired to a SCAR inspired bolt but the G36 looks infinitely better, especially the newer versions. Still looks distinct in it's own janky way at least.
>>65194724 The FX05 is Mexicans building a SCAR/AK hybrid on cloned Germany machinery in a G36 body kit. Janky as hell but not bad at all. Actually very cool. Like German cars made in Mexico.
oic the thread is about the 2nd most aesthetically pleasing rifle. we all know which is THE most aesthetically pleasing. don't even lie to yourself or pretend
>>65193853 That's fair, my rationale for longer wood stocks is probably due to a couple of reasons. From a sort of form factor standpoint, I like a more consistent shape on the gun. Target rifles and sporterized hunting rifles where the stock abruptly ends and a narrow barrel sticks out just don't look as good to me. Additionally, if the wood is well-figured, I want the most wood possible to show it off.
Not that I think Mannlicher stocks work everywhere mind you. >>65191441 is my photo and I think that is plenty long enough. On a full length or >20" barrel'd rifle it begins to look weird. I think a 14-20" barrel with a full length stock up to the last few inches is the optimal length. It has a sturdy stocky (pun intended) look to it that just tickles my brain in the right way.
The Norwegian 1912 Krag carbine is my favorite military application of it, but even there, it isn't THAT much of a difference between the stock on the K11 (middle gun in the aforementioned pic) and the Krag as far as length. I guess I just find a nice ergonomic wood stock that abruptly ends with a nearly squared 90 degree cutoff followed by a skinny barrel to be ugly to my own tastes.
I agree with most on here that the SL6/7 is damn beautiful, just a shame they are so stupid hard to get & accessories are more expensive than other guns entirely.
>>65194915 >>65194920 >>65194922 All are garbage. every ww2 battle rifle mogs it to oblivion. Let alone post war rifles. Reminder that the “peak” of akshit was manufactured by literal gypsies and that’s its biggest claim to fame besides being the favored implement of changing consumer habits.
>>65196949 I wouldn't buy a repro (none of the ones to this point in time are good enough). I'd get the later one if was in the market for an original select fire 1940s relic.
>>65197057 (as said on other threads) HK owner, the G36 is not their best idea. If ? was ever to seek a select fire factory one out it'd be a shorter-barrel C (or K, maybe...), many other contemporary rifles exist that outperform or are preferable it.
>>65197330 >the issue I personally think they're a waste of money, for the grade of machining workmanship and build quality overall. Others think differently, find them good enough tg Not a fan of replica / repro firearms overall, of vintage 20th century mil weapons. Prefer, rather have the original
Will say though that a dream gun of mine is an FG 42 repromod in 6.5 Grendel. Exact high quality replica in materials dimensions and machining except for the barrel bore/breech/bolt face and magazines. Keeps the long range punch with controllability in automatic fire.
>>65197406 Are you talking about SMG Guns repro? I have only heard that their machine and build quality is top notch.
If you mean D-K Production/SSD I have heard some very bad things about the actual metallurgy of their guns.
I hear you with not liking repros of WWII era stuff, but with actual FG42s upwards of 250k on a good day, I think it's one of the few guns where a repro can really be justified.
>>65198777 checked, concur about (actual) FG 42 scarcity. I just think it deserves better repros. It's all about the appearance, this thread is 'aesthetics' and the FG 42 repros I've seen ngmi Airsoft vibes
>>65200045 The ragebait was undercut by the HK33 actually looking good. Next time you gotta go with something that’s actually a little (but not too) ugly like a Tavor, SCAR, or a Gen 1 CZ Bren
>>65191441 Lovely rifles, anon. >>65200326 And this is my suggestion, btw. They don't just sell vintage scopes, they also refurbish them. Sometimes repolishing the original glass, sometimes replacing it with new lenses. Prices seem to range from $400 to $1000 typically.
>>65204885 Those things are so fucking weird and look so off-putting yet it's a really comfy gun, comfy enough that I imagine a strange parallel reality where the M16 had fudd furniture
>>65205312 Yeah, the Kar98k is a strong contender for best looking bolt action of all time.
>>65200084 I agree, but I think the problem is they all look too clean and shiny because they cost a ton so nobody wants to ever actually take it out and get it dirty/banged up.
Idk, I ordered one two years ago and plan on really getting my money's worth.
>>65205325 >stamped It really is the case that milled > stamped, wood > plastic. You can't argue otherwise. Ergo, therefore, sum tu milled + wood > anything > vidya. >the latin > anything
>>65204885 If Eugene Stoner had originally designed the AR-15 as something like this, with extensive wood furniture, the gun grabbers would have almost no arguments against semi-auto rifles nowadays.
>>65207625 Which, there are dozens lol And all of those "Portuguese" pattern (along with every other post-hollywood ar10) guns were made in the Netherlands anyway
>>65207940 Going by fit, form and function, he is right in the most basic noguz sense. Applying finesse, sophistication and appreciation from the perspective of class, knowledge and intelligence, he is a doodoo head, poopy butt.
>>65209588 Easier to transport. I have one on my .223 Vz. 58. Also used to have that exact picatinny top cover, but I physically can't care about shooting with optics, so I sold it off
>>65214952 No, the redditmarketwide adoption of ARs (and similarly Glocks) as Toyota Camry Kleenex benchmark 'standard' you-don't-need-anything-else, ruined everything. Borg standardization of mil rifles (and post-1980s adoption of M16-derived-only as the western template) is why we can't have nice things
>>65215577 checked, No he didn't. Look at (for example) /arg/ the pestilence of this board ARs are good rifles. /arg/ = trannies M4s are not ArmaLites, or good rifles. Entire notion and idea of the Colt AR-15 (what became 2 years later the M16) was a *light weight* infantry rifle. The opposite of what the M4 and entirety of everything ever posted inside of the /arg/ cancertranny pestilence containment center, represents 24-7. Whole point of having a 5.56 mm self loading rifle is light weight. Not being a Swiss Army Knife w/ castrated 14.5" barrel.
>>65214952 >>65215038 >noooooo you can't enjoy a sub 1.5 moa modernized rifle with top tier ergonomics and made with modern machining manufacturing techniques because....uhhh....because I said so!!!! >have this 2.5+ moa stamped metal gun developed straight from 1930s technology instead
>>65197057 >>65197057 I like the wider trapezoid handguard. There are more modern alternatives with more integrated pic rails (both HK and BT did their own take on them). The magazines are kino for being translucent but the Magpul mags are objectively better. Finding G36 mags without the locking lugs is basically impossible.
Personally I would've loved to see the HK433 blossom but it looks like they're gonna keep milking the 416 until further notice.
Just like everyone and everything else: unless there's a servicewide adoption by medium-major military service, it's a slog getting any small arm recognized these days.
>>65194724 What is the point of that optics mount? That front ring is just obscuring your FOV. Is there a magnification or NVG unit that slides in through the front?
