Will there ever be another gigantic surface battle with dozens of warships shooting at each other as rough equals? The last one was in WWII.

the world you grew up in doesnt exist anymore.
as drones get better, stealthier and faster even jets will not be safe from them anymore.
much less giant surface ship which cannot rely on armor and need to shoot down their threat

There's only like, 2 Gigantic surface navies nowadays, and both of them are not keen on fighting each other.

With some exceptions (the USA in WWII basically), countries have avoided direct naval confrontation since the Russian fleet was annihilated at Tsushima in 1905. It is simply too costly to risk having a fleet sunk and it can force a nation to surrender even if the enemy never occupied any territory. Even in WWI during the battle of Jutland the Brits and Krauts avoided direct confrontation because both were afraid of another Tsushima.

The Pacific in WWII is an exception because the USA had the industrial might to risk losing entire fleets and the Japanese were fighting a desperate war of survival after their oil got cut off.

probably, except itll be much lamer with the ships being like 100 km away from eachother firing missiles with no big scary guns
