for what? If you want a "good" gun just buy an AR-15. If you want to be special and want an AK unfortunately vz58s are now absurdly overpriced for what they are and you are better off just getting a WASR

Probably not.
When Century was turning out VZ2008s for $300 with a bayonet/5 magazines and ammunition was $200/1000rds in sealed spam cans then yes, they were a no brainer.
Now that the rifles are $700-1k+ and ammo is roughly 50 cents per trigger pull the math works out a bit differently. It isn't a dirt cheap budget option anymore. You can get a comparable AR for less money, find ammo and magazines for it everywhere, yet it will also have better accuracy, lower recoil and far better heat management. The VZ is a more sophisticated design than an AK, delivering better accuracy with less weight and better controls but it's still not quite keeping up with an AR which is cheaper than ever due to market saturation.
You can still buy a VZ-58 if you think they are cool and want to be different, but a purchase like that isn't made on any rational basis. You'd be buying it because you want to, which is perfectly fine but you will be paying a cost and performance penalty for the privilege.

Yes. Any AK or AR worth their salt is 700-1k+ and the czech alternatives are pretty tight ngl. Im building one atm and its gonna cost me around 450-500 usd, got lucky with the kits

It is a very good rifle by the standards of its time; it is not a modern rifle and won't stand up to one
Maybe if you modernized one extensively (in a similar way that the AK-12 attempted), maybe it would be quite serviceable. But at the end of the day, it's still a product of the late 50s

Definitely don't get a vz2008 but the CSA VZ58 is good to go. I've had both and the quality difference was immense. The 2008 was cobbled together shit with a spray painted recoil spring, the VZ58 has excellent machining.
With how expensive a quality AK is these days, you're better off getting a VZ. It's smaller and lighter with a better manual of arms, especially if you add the bolt release and ambi selector switch. I love mine.

I owned a Vz 58 and I thought it was a worse shooting experience than my NPAP and SLR-104FR. Recoiled more, the handguards heated up super quickly and I actually had the aluminum mags start to have their BHOs fail after a few years of use. Ended up selling it
