It's a gay larp for naive people, don't fall for it.
Find a way to become financially secure, then pursue your passions on the side.

That picture is retarded and a psyop.
I tried to get normal job and couldn't find one whether in my field or some shitty fast food/store job, and I'm still on the verge of being homeless. Meanwhile I'm going to more and more jam sessions and playing music in other random places without really trying. If I actually start to get paid at some point before being dead, I'll have gotten into music while thinking about money the whole time.

Passions are never on the side. That's a hobby, work drone bitches.
Bukowski will be remembered whether you like him or not because he stuck to his guns. And every 9-5 dabbler of an art or craft will have maybe a line or two in his eulogy about his so-called passion, right alongside his favourite football team and first car.

I have several friends who are independent artists and all of them talk about how the pressure to produce stuff for survival money makes their art worse. They could either take their time making what they're passionate about or shit stuff out quickly for the check. Your scenario is pretty much only possible through generational wealth unfortunately. That or your art somehow sells for a shit ton of money so you can sell one piece and months making something. Rare that one's passion actually lines up with the market, I'd think most artist's passion is on the side these days

Lots of novelists and poets of varying levels of success had jobs. You're just rambling.
Look, I can tell that you are young and retarded, so I'll go easy on your suffering artist idealism: it hasn't fully dawned on you yet that you, as a man, are going to have to save yourself. There is no one coming to save you. The world does not give a fuck about you, as a man. You must make your peace with this, really make your peace with it, and plan accordingly.
There's a time to plan, and a time to take risks. Risks are important, dreaming is important. But if your life is all risk and no plan - you're fucked.

I've accepted the fact that I'll probably die of lung cancer due to my cigarette addiction, so I figure something like that.
They've been a comforting partner for decades, and even though cancer's probably a miserable way to go, I don't particularly value longevity to life, so despite it being largely beyond my willpower to quit, I honestly don't want to, either, so that gives me a paradoxical sense of agency to my life, but I'll be really disappointed if I end up dying to something else like being beaten to death by a rabid group of lesbians.

the problem is that when you walk up to the random guy in the hood you're not actually walking up to a dealer, who has a vested interest in providing a good product to ensure the customer comes back. That random crackhead you ask who says he's got you bro lemme just head round the corner rq is just going to scam you and spend the money on crack for himself.

Your friends aren't Artists if they're concerned with monetary compensation for their art

lol. idk if you're the same anon but he said "it's not a passion if it's on the side" and that's what I was responding to.
If it needs to be both not on the side and also not effected by monetary compensation then you need to just already have money and the sentiment would be "working class people can't be artists" which I of course disagree with. People need to make money to survive.

why? you can get it online and test it when it comes. I've been getting all my drugs online for years and it's always much cleaner and stronger than shit I got in the streets when I was younger

get Tor browser and go to dark dot fail or tor dot taxi to see which markets are up. Search dread (darknet reddit pretty much) if you wanna see people's opinions on markets/vendors. Get monero, learn how to do pgp encryption, go by user reviews for each vendor, and test everything you get for both fent and the thing you're wanting it to be with a reagent kit. Don't ever sign for a package.
If you're a real addict and end up buying shit over and over again, you can end up just in a telegram room to streamline the process
