It’s extremely obvious that Lovecraft was writing about his personal neuroses in his stories. He had an extremely sheltered upbringing which explains why he was so afraid of the unknown

I disagree. If you compare his writing to other literature of the time it becomes very clear he was mostly just shitposting to amuse himself. His writing style alone seems like it was meant just to mock other writers who might be reading it and I think, that was the quiet part everyone was too polite to say out loud, instead quietly snubbing his work for the slight. A very cynical doomer humor sort of guy who thinks he's smarter than everyone else. Because he probably was.

Considering how many of his works have an outright undercurrent of social hatred and xenophobia (Color out of Space, Shadows Over Innsmouth), you have to assume this was a deliberate theme. Yes, he was disturbed by black people, but that aversion to him was magical, and he wanted to depict it in order to understand it.
