I like Star Wars novellization of three original episodes, but i had read them in translation. This might be an important part, because i had also read and liked the novellization of Ep. 2 (which i had also read in translation), but when i had finally decided to read the original two or three years ago, i had been severely surprised - a lot of character's thoughts, some jokes and even entire passages were, apparently, translator's own additions, while the original text was dry as hell looking more like a script describing actions in least creative way possible rather than a book (which the translated variant had resembled a great deal more). I don't pretend that the translation is a high literature, but rather rant, that this is one of a very few rare things, where i see translator's additions (let alone on this scale) as fully justified. Iirc the original is written by Salvatore.

2001: A Space Odyssey was based on Arthur C Clarke's short story "The Sentinel" but he wrote a novel treatment during or after filming didn't he? Maybe that's OK.

Also IIRC Ian Fleming only wrote the novel of "Thunderball" during or after filming i.e. it was conceived as a screenplay initially. That's decent enough if you like the James Bond novels.
