I just finished Child of God and am placing it as his third best work, behind Blood Meridian and The Road. The Border Trilogy was good, but it was just too long and plodding.

That was my experience with BotNS, TBK, Kubrick's movies, Hamlet, and sort of with chud meridian. Imo that's the mark of great art.
