EOE fixes everything. Skip the last two episodes and go straight to EOE.

>Skip the last two episodes
You don't actually appreciate NGE
You should watch both the last episodes AND EoE

Yes, its originality is somewhat overrated but its influence and stature are undeniable, and its new wave aesthetics are artful enough to be worth it. There are two continuities for the show's OG run; the relation between them is still debated a little but I think that's to do with lingering translation issues more than anything else imo. Working on it.
Original TV broadcast:
Episodes 1-26
Theatrical 'alternate' ending:
Episodes 1-20, Director's Cut Episodes 21'-24', End Of Evangelion 25'-26'
The theatrical continuity is denoted by apostrophes after the episode number
Director's Cut episodes only add stuff to set up things for the 25'-26' theatrical ending, they don't remove thinge or significantly contradict the original broadcast ending
25'-26' theatrical finale has been formatted a number of ways over the years; the most "ultimate" version is known as Revival Of Evangelion aka Death(true)^2 + 25' + 26', Death(true)^2 is an extended recap/montage thing with a few new elements but isn't strictly necessary, just adds to the experience
Death + Rebirth was released as a work-in-progress preview of the above so can be ignored
So on a first watch:
Episodes 1-20, Director's Cut Episodes 21'-24', Death(true)^2 (optional), End Of Evangelion, then 25-26 to see what you're missing out on from the original TV broadcast ending
This is the easiest way to cover everything, but it pays to understand you're jumping between two different proposals for the show's ending
Then there's the Rebuild movies
1.11
2.22
3.333
3.33+1.11
Which have ab acceptable thematic arc imo but are poorly written compared to the OG series, like most people say, so it's up to you if you want to bother

you gotta admire the autism to go back and revise your own shit back and forth over 30 years
and somehow the audience and the director(s) wants more, and it works
I don't know if I ever saw that somewhere else

I dunno man, my mood was almost shit when I started but it made me feel better by the end of it
on a side note I'm now watching 2.22, I'm pleasantly surprised/intrigued at the amount of stuff added/changed from the TV version within the first

I feel like the oppisite of this is true. beacuse eva has become ubik the episodic portions of the show have lost alot of their impact but holy fuck the recent movies are good . I don't think the new season is going to be as good as the last 3 movies. anno > yoko troono
