Banned from Equestria (Daily) is a point-and-click clop game where the objective is to get with as many mares (and stallions) as you can in the span of three days.

Overall, it creates a great atmosphere, the music selection, the crisp pixel art, and the immersive world it creates.
This is one of the better Equestria depictions of where's everything placed, even though it's quite small in scale, but it works for the gameplay.
The fact that Derpy can't figure out how to work a penis or Vinyl giving Brian a pill shows how much attention was put into this game. Everyone is portrayed and handled appropriately, meaning the sex scenes are consistent with the character's personality.
The variables responsible for the form in the menu scare me.
It changes his form in the menu for each scene.
This is also accounted for in the more bullshit mode where you're forced into a unicorn or a pegasus.
Normally, these scenes have earth.
It's probably a very simple variable, but I'm impressed that it's always changed, even though how it's unlikely that anyone checks this menu during the sex scenes.
Hell, you can even eat the muffin right before you're about to cum on Trixie to alter the cumshot.

I worked on Kazeged tonight, yay!
4 sleepy hours, spent wondering why it didn't work, shitting the bed, pondering if I should rewrite it all, and finally, starting over.
Everything I have done before won't be ditched, but the architecture was really awful, and needed a full re-factorization.
So, yeah, I'm slowly putting back each brick where it belongs instead of on a big pile, it takes time (and I don't have much).
I will of course push to the git repo as soon as I have something stable and working, but you can still have a look at the 'dev' branch.

As for the drawing style, I feel you.
What I have trouble with is the cheek angle.
Too pronounced, and it looks disgusting. Too smooth, and while nice, you can say something's off.

It's certainly slow but it gets faster with practice. Hand-drawn animation has so much more soul, so I think it's worth it.
I've been making some BFED-style NSFW loops again lately and it takes me 2-5 hours for a single loop depending on the complexity. My first attempts took about double that.
There are some shortcuts that can be taken like only redrawing the parts of a character that are actually moving, which I noticed is done in BFED a lot. I tend to do a lot of wobble frames like your example there, but Pokehidden is way more selective about it.

Yeah, the shortcut Pokehidden used are "easy" to do with flash, but hard to do with pencil2D. And even here, I duplicated some frames to go faster, but BFED even skip frames for some parts on some animations (it's not always the same across the game, you can see he learnt how to animate efficiently with this game).
Mostly noticeable when mares speak tho.

I thought it would be funny to make a series of animations that look like they could've been in the game but with a character that clearly isn't from that time. I think they turned out looking pretty accurate and some people seemed genuinely confused in the comments.
I'm planning on starting to post the ones I'm making now on Derpi sometime this weekend. I'm making a whole swf out of them, too, and I figured out a way to sync the loops to music and choose a frame rate that is perfectly in time with the BPM.
Honestly, I'd like to make stuff that isn't NSFW but I struggle to come up with ideas and stay motivated. I feel shallow for feeding into it, but we all know that NSFW is like a cheat code for getting attention and being horny is all it takes to be motivated. I think I'll really try to make something SFW after this one.
Anyway, as far as software goes, it is definitely a pain in the ass to reuse graphics when working with raster-based software as opposed to Flash. I usually use Krita to animate, but I'm thinking of trying Aseprite again because it has the RotSprite algorithm which could help a lot with reusing frames even if it means having to copy and paste stuff.

With this kind of animation, usually I can get away with just two keyframes. After the keyframes are sketched, I usually fully complete the linework for them first.
In-betweening can take a little trial-and-error, so I like to start by fully animating just one line or one little part of the body to get the movement right before fully committing to it. In this example, I think I started with just one line on her butt or her back since that's what's moving the most. The actual animating process is mostly just the standard pose-to-pose style, although stuff like hair and tails often needs to be animated straight-ahead to get the physics right.
For wobble frames (is there a more proper name for this?), I trace over the linework for a previous frame (the same frame every time so things don't drift around) rather than tracing the sketch multiple times because it makes it easy to control the amount of wobble. Ultimately, it's a style thing, but I like to keep the wobble relatively subtle.
That's about it, I think. Importing the animations into Flash is just a tedious process of exporting all the frames, importing them to the stage in Flash, and doing Modify > Bitmap > Trace Bitmap... with the settings tweaked to preserve all the colors and pixels. I can get more into Flash-specific stuff about making the minigame if anyone is interested. I actually made a swf for the Flawless animation, but it doesn't have music or a preloader.

Oh yeah, and in terms of emulating Pokehidden's style, here are some notes:
- The base resolution he used in BFED is 248x184 (but it was scaled to 496x368 in Flash).
- Pay close attention to the line widths he uses and how they're different for different parts (iris outline, eyebrows, internal hair lines, horn/wing details, etc.). When working on my imitation, I would find an animation from the game where the characters are at a similar scale and copy all the line widths exactly.
- The anatomy is fairly close to the show but he draws the ears much smaller, the eyes closer together, and does that pointy cheek thing.
- Just like in the show, characters have lines, but backgrounds have no lines.
- He used 30 fps as a base and usually animated on twos and threes. If the animation is too smooth, it'll look wrong.
- Fully hand-drawn animation, of course.
A lot of people understand the basic gist of his style, but usually there are just a few subtle things wrong and I can instantly clock it as an imitation. I'd say the resolution and line widths are usually the main things that give it away.

That doesn't bother me half as much as the way they did it. It comes out of nowhere and Twilight has no reaction to it. No sadness, no anger, nothing. Her home gets destroyed and she doesn't seem to give a fuck (until next season). Granted, she's a little busy, but how hard would it have been to throw in her with a shocked and angry face shrieking, "My home!"? It would have taken only two seconds of airtime and made the scene a lot better.

I monitor the BFED tag from time to time and saw your images, they are indeed really close to the original style, great job!
As for your SFW lack of idea, I usually think of a cute or funny thing, and then try to find a scene that would fit with it.
I don't have time to draw these days tho, so, yeah, it's sad.
But look around you, there is probably an object that could make for a cute/funny scene. Daily actions like having lunch, a shower, or walking on the parc can also be good source of funny/cute situations or scenes.

I use FireAlpaca to draw 2D images, and I'm trying Pencil2D for animation. I purposeful chose to switch to 256*200 for my drawings (between 5:4 and 4:3 for ration, lower than old CGA mode)
Also, he very rarely use black in the background, and I forgot half the time the eye shine.

Thanks! I'm thinking I might try making a pony dress-up game in Flash next as something fun and relatively easy to start with, especially since I'm still trying to get the hang of ActionScript.
BFED's resolution is quite odd and I've never seen it anywhere else. I think I said this before in a previous thread, but my theory is that it stems from the DS Lite's resolution of 256x192 (of course), but with a 4px border trimmed off to enable adding a small amount of camera movement in post. I love the 4:3 aspect ratio and I tend to choose 320x240 because anything under that feels a little too cramped, especially when drawing humans.
I draw a lot, but I don't post most of what I make. And yeah, I like to just post stuff anonymously because it's so much less stressful and makes it easy to dip out when it inevitably becomes impossible to use the Internet without uploading an ID.

Hum, maybe more 4px as a margin for the stylus. On my original DS, you couldn't reach the real border of the screen because of the size of the stylus.
I like 320*240 when I draw random stuff (sometime 800*600) but I mostly do pixel art these days, so 160*144 with 8*8 or 16*16 details / objects.
Well, I understand. I just went the other route and created a second account for drawing ponies. As for ID, kek, tell me you are a first worlder without telling me. But, yeah, even if they want it, I think it would be hard to implement, and I hope people would fight back.

I just happen to have an old copy of Flash 8 and it still runs, thankfully. I probably shouldn't be making Flash stuff in the year of our lord 2026, but there's simply nothing else like it out there to this day.
The last time I used Animate, which was a couple years ago, it actually still used Flash with ActionScript 3.0 as its main platform. I tested out the HTML5 export and it was terrible. That could be it, too. I found a zip file with all the versions of that Animanatee program that Pokehidden used, but not a single one of them would run on any DS emulator I tried. So, I haven't been able to figure out if the strange resolution has anything to do with that program.
If anyone has had any success getting Animanatee running or even just has footage of it being used, please say something because I'm curious about what it was like. I swear, there's like one singular screenshot of it online and that's about it.

Believe it or not, my copy is actually 100% legit! I have a CD that has to be around 20 years old, but it's still in perfect condition. Macromedia's activation servers are long gone, but it still accepts my key and works without complaining. How far we've fallen since then...

This is exactly it and I feel like this aspect of Flash isn't brought up enough in discussions of its legacy and why it was so successful. The swf file format is fundamentally similar to video container formats and has the same benefits like everything being contained in one easily sharable/archivable file and the ability to inspect the file and automatically do stuff like determine resolution/frame count/frame rate, render previews/thumbnails, etc. If we're ever gonna have another platform for interactive media that becomes as ubiquitous as Flash was or video files are today, I think it'll have to be based on a container format like that.

Coded a bit this week, things are slowly going back to working state.
Now, the hardest part: rewrite the game engine itself.

Yeah, I should probably try learning flash. I may not be a writer, but I have drawn plenty of furry-slop to make rough drafts of the hypothetical scenes. Hopefully programming flash is easier than figuring out CMake...

Nay, it was a simple website, 3-4 pages, and the main one has the game playing and a teardown menu on the top right from which you could chose the version to play (or the modified version).
The others pages were tutorials on how to do recolor edits of the game.

It is indeed Flash and I'm still trying to figure out ActionScript. Right now, there are actually two copies of all the clothes: one you can drag around and another that is positioned perfectly on the character. When you drag a piece of clothing near where it's supposed to be and release, the draggable one is hidden and replaced by the properly positioned one (which is also animated). Each category has its own movie clip and it switches the frame to apply different articles of clothing, so only one in each category can be active at once.
There are some annoying limitations with movie clips in Flash (at least with ActionScript 2.0), but I'll try to make it less restrictive. I've been decompiling a lot of swfs lately trying to pick up useful techniques.

An old trick if you need is the clothing to be two images: one above your character, and one below.
That way you can, for example, draw the inside of your beanie on the bottom image, and it will be hidden naturally by your character.
I have no idea what you can do with flash. I thought it was more or less JavaScript (typescript), but it seems you can do way less.

I had never heard of KiSS before, this is an interesting new rabbit hole to go down... I saw a few MLP sets in the little bit of digging I just did, but they were all pre-FiM and looked pretty bad. I'll have to look around more and see if anyone is still using the format.

That could be useful, I'll keep that in mind. I looked at one KiSS set and noticed that technique being used for the shoes.

I have tons of experience animating in Flash, but I'm totally new to ActionScript, so I'm still trying to figure that out myself. AS is mostly the same as JS syntax-wise (and it has types like TS), but the Flash API is totally different than HTML5. Flash does a lot of stuff for you that you'd need to implement from scratch with HTML5, but it's definitely more limited (I mean, you can basically do anything with HTML5 these days).
I'm stuck with Flash Player 8 and AS2, but it looks like the capabilities of Flash were brought much closer to HTML5 in later versions and AS3 looks like a much cleaner and better thought-out language.
I did manage to improve my system and remove the snapping thing since my last post and it's much more entertaining now. I'll post another video maybe next weekend once I have more of the visuals done.

Too many of my projects have died because the scope was too big and I ran out of energy before I could finish them.
