I notice that Flutterdash shippers tend to be hardcore longtime fans of the show whereas Appledash shippers are usually casuals and tourists and even when they aren't they only really like it because it's "canon".

Everytime I see Flutterdash art on Twitter and look through the quotes there's people saying that it was literally their first ever yuri and they've shipped it since they 8 or something like that. I've never seen anyone say that about Appledash

rarijack and appledash have in my experience always been the ships of choice for idiots and midwits, respectively. I'm sure some normal people ship those as well, but since they're so popular their work gets buried in an ocean of slop

It's because for the terminally online AJ represents the butch lesbian, or the "man" in a lesbian relationship, so they pair her with Rarity to fill in the "woman" role. Or they pair her with the another butch/"man" lesbian Dash because of course every tomboy is just a butch lesbian. Oh and they also make sure to draw as little femininity on either ship as possible to advert the chud gaze if they humanize them

I'm a longtime fan and I prefer Appledash because of pic rel and all the art JJ made. But, you are right. Most appledashfags these days are tourists. There was a sizable amount of oldfag appledashers back then, but now it's really just teens who just recently learned about the show through the "MLP MADE DYKES CANON!" news.
