I like the palette better than FiM honestly. Slightly darker, slightly more saturated, slightly more clustered towards earthy and blue-ish tones. I'd say it reads like an attempt to make the colours just a tad more gender-neutral, without undercutting the core appeal of cute colourful horses with brushable hair. More oil-painting than watercolor pastel. It's very pleasant to look at in the movie.

But the show tries to lift it back up into pastels without changing the hues, that's where it really breaks down.

The lighting was actually decent in the movie and the animations smoother but the budget got slashed right after unfortunately. My first 3d shows were Reboot and Beast Wars so the jankiness was actually quite endearing to me, but I understand how it turns off some fans. Standards have changed, Reboot was a cutting-edge ambitious project while MyM was (I wouldn't say low-effort I think they genuinely tried and the quality improved over time that's why despite the flaws it still had soul) made by a studio willing to work for pennies. So the blame goes to Hasbro for not being willing to pay for a more experienced studio.
