I switched cables back to the previous one. Cleaned the ends as best I could. I didn't clean the inside of the ports as the connectors are way back there. I tried re-reading the same tape from the other day and got I/O errors again, at exactly the same place. That would be very suspicious if the problem were the card, the cable, or even the drive. If it's failing at the same place it would suggest something's up with the tape, though the drive does not report any errors with it.
Although perhaps, if there was an issue with the card or cable during writing at this spot? But then would Linux report it as an I/O error? It seems odd. I think I will have to write a second tape and see if the same thing happens. Maybe I'll also try writing the files that it's failing at to another tape and seeing if somehow the contents have something to do with it. But I really doubt that.

I used Ponybooru as an alt for years and barely noticed much beyond the site functioning less and getting weirder.
With is demise and essentially 'Nigel Farage' reveal of being the same as the other shitheaps, where shall I go?
Who's the freedom of speech and art bastion who will stand by anything within accepted legal limits, including the fantasy foal stuff etc out of pure principle?

Another question I have: What's the deal with fiber channel and SFP? I'm trying to find a new cable to buy and I'm having a hard time trying to figure out what the compatibility is between fiber channel and SFP. The cables I bought previously were explicitly advertised as for fiber channel. But will any SFP direct attach cable work? What rating do they need to have? Most are sold with base 10 speed ratings, whereas my fiber channel card is indicated to have a 16gb connection?

Currently, you have two choices: Twibooru for a pure pony archive, Ponerpics for a more community-focused experience with less strict rules about pony-relatedness.

I need to get back to backing up all Catbox files linked on /mlp/... but it's getting more difficult now that Catbox is constantly shitting the bed. Unfortunately, I don't have the disk space required to back it all up right now, I'd need to hook up a different system first. And also first update my vibe coded (because I'm a codelet) script to account for every transmission error that now undoubtedly will pop up.
Anyone else already have an operation to back up Catbox links from /mlp/ underway before it will inevitably shut down?
>>
>>
>>43229860
That's a whole fucking can of worms. I've only used up to 8Gbps fiber channel. You can use a regular 10Gbps Ethernet SFP in place of an 8Gbps fiber channel SFP, at both ends. I do not know what the situation is for 16Gbps. However, if I recall correctly, SFP DAC cables are not "smart" in any way. They literally just directly connect some pins of the SFPs at both ends. I doubt the cable is your issue in this case though.
>>
>>
>>
>>43231080
I suspected it was a simple cable, but even there you can have different specs like cat 5, 6, etc for ethernet.
I doubt it's the cable as well, I think it's the card. I've had similar issues with SAS HBAs in the past. I've purchased a new one and it's on the way, but I do find it suspicious that it failed in the same place twice. So while that's on the way I'm going to write another tape see if that exhibits the same problems. Another thing I've read is that I should check dmesg for more info. I'll do that when/if I get another failure.
>>43230739
There wasn't much else going on in the thread when I started posting about it. I probably won't have too many further posts. I'm hoping I'm near the end of setting this up.

Well, I have written another tape and read the whole thing back without any error. This really makes me think that it was the other tape that was the problem.
However, this does raise it's own questions. The tape drive did not report a tape error. From what I read, the tape head is supposed to verify data as it writes it. If the other tape was written without any reported error but there was error in reading it back, that really brings that verification into question. I think at this point I can start actually making my tapes I should just read them back first before calling them done. At least for the first few, as this brings the time to complete a tape to 14 hours from 7.
Other notes: I do wonder if something went wrong with the other tape. When it arrived, the case was cracked even though the shrink wrap was still intact (I ordered a few singles from a couple different sellers before I made a big order from one of them). So perhaps it sustained some internal damage in shipping, even though it seemed to start out fine. That particular tape does sound nosier now and it fails at the same place every time. I will also note that this other tape I just wrote is a metal particle chemistry rather than the BaFe all the others are. So hopefully the drive doesn't have an aversion to BaFe. But I don't think so.
I'm also happy to report that drive temps are still looking good. I had the fan down at a level it was still decent to be in the room with (about 2/3 speed) and temperature is still good even after 14 hours of continuous operation. 39C.
Probably not too many more posts on this unless something else happens or more problems arise. I plan on making a printout of all my scripts to store on paper with the tapes (I'm only using tools that come included with most Linux distros). I may post that when I get it together.

Encouraged, yes. Enforced, no. Transcoding video files is particularly troublesome because their codecs are almost universally lossy, which leads to quality degradation and increased file sizes even in an optimally designed systemwhich Philomena most definitely isn't.

I don't claim to know my way around the pseudolegal restrictions that started this argument, but the fact remains that an archive should not discard the original encoding for an open format conversion. Just look at how Archive.org handles it: original formats available alongside a variety of reencodes for those who require them.

The page clearly says whatever odd days ago, I'm still confused what ya'll are seeing there. I had edited the page twice cause I made a mistake and I didn't like it lol. There's two pages with the same edit date till you get to the last edit like a year or whatever ago.
>>
>>
>>
>>43236318
I clicked the edit button.
I carefully reviewed what you were talking about, there's two edits for 18 days ago, and then one 2 years ago and then it continues.
So how that works is that it shows the current revision (18 days ago) the previous revision before (18 days ago) and then the one that came before (2 years ago)
It shows the (2 years ago) one with the *edits*, stuff in red was removed , stuff in green was added. You can confirm this behavior by philomena by scrolling down to see the discrepency between 2 years ago and 4 years ago revisions. Can't explain it, just default behavior. The one 2 years ago revision is blank with no green or red, I think someone probably pressed edit, then save, without changing anything but not sure there.

So the records weren't tampered with, they were simply presented in an incredibly misleading way that, alongside the rest of the purge, wasn't elaborated on until you were finished making your excuses for befriending a kiddy diddler. Forgive us if that doesn't set our minds at ease.

Seriously, what the fuck is wrong with you? He has an unalienable right to talk shit and ignore the consequences. It's his God-given right as a citizen of a free country to argue his point and ignore yours. That's the purpose of having an open society. Screaming in incoherent rage is an expression of pure democracy, and any government that forbids it is de facto a dictatorship. When you demand an answer to your questions, you're trampling on his rights and revealing yourself to be the fascist you secretly know you are. He doesn't have to answer you or even acknowledge you. If I had to make a guess, I'd say maybe 40% done? There's a lot of big stuff done and the groundwork laid down for more. For example, even though I haven't completed the ban/moderation system I have kept it in mind keeping track of uploaders and posters elsewhere in the code. I think I did break a few search options in the last bout of work I did on the search engine, so that needs to be investigated. The performance was greatly improved, work just stopped before I got everything completely buttoned up. And I did have more ideas for optimization. I've kept a to do list of ideas I've had for the software. There's a lot of user/admin options that need to be implemented. Administration tools are very sparse. If you wanted to, you could run a local booru with the code as is. Votes, faves, comments, and even the forum are functional (so feel free to give it a try, it requires very minimal setup). I did have some further ideas and innovations, but I need to get the main body of work complete before starting on more experimental stuff.

When the pastes were archived, were the other chans scraped for paste IDs?
Also I'm trying to process the 2016 archive and what a fucking mess it is. Holy fucking shit.Even if we hate the guy, hats off to the ponebin guy for making something useful out of it. Character encoding is all over the place. Untitled pastes received the first 80 character from the paste as a title. If it is untitled and non text type it gets the type in the title because reasons... if the same author posted multiple pastes with the same name (or untitled and the first line matches) then only one is kept at random. Because the filename is the title there can be only one with the same title. I might just contact him to get the code he used to process it.
Also, do someone know some way to determine if a paste is pony related or not? There is the simple way of having a word list and if any is there it is pony related. But if it is just a link collection to other pastes the one has to traverse the chain and check if any is pony related or not.
Or maybe should I feed it to an LLM? Due to the text being many GB it would cost a fortune. Maybe a smaller local model could be enough (I only have 4GB of vram in a 6 year old laptop gpu.)
>>
>>43248270
I'm not too worried about pastes missing because in the end, the data is still all there on Desuarchive. If you are missing a paste, you can just search the original pastebin URL and generally find the posts that got binned right above it.

I have just pushed a couple small changes to PonePaste. Mainly, I made recovery codes a bit friendlier, and I slightly changed around the CSS for display on pastes, making the info bar with the word count, fave count, etc one line instead of two, and display better on mobile. If you're a janny and reading this, I also improved a couple things on the admin dashboard you probably don't use anyways and won't notice.
Let me know if I fucked anything up.

Mate. It's ass. There's no pleasing these people, who want me dead. They clearly don't care about jack and shit or they'd actively work towards building up rather than focusing on "how can I tear this person down".
The good thing is, the entirety of this thread disappears the moment I click away, I don't have to listen to these jackasses who don't help, I can just work on things by myself. The draw back is I have no further help, I'm alone, I work two jobs, and I just don't have time to keep working on software when it's a full time job keeping the hardware running.
The big problem is that I can't push meaningful updates to TPA or re-enable our video download system because I have no help. Folks like Flutters or Twi here are no help in that regard, and only serve to further damage the archive's ability to perform basic functions by means of just being unhelpful talking heads.
I can just offer storage because I can just throw a couple of them in a box and send them on their way. They're not doing me any good at the moment and another pony site gets helped. But, no, it's very clear the intended community for pony tube (/mlp/) genuinely just hates good things... or is it just a few people and all of the quiet lurkers just appreciate that such things exist and stay quiet? I'll probably never know, not that it mattered. Thanks for giving a shit anon.

>hey I can help you with ponytube
>>didn't you just say you were shutting down the pro-
>FOOLS LIKE FLUTTERS OR TWI HERE
Why are you so adamant about shitting on people simply asking questions or owning/working on "competing" services?
>unhelpful talking heads
What a bizarre way to disparage someone who runs multiple websites and multiple conventions.
>>
>>43268386
I'm assuming the twiflag has nothing to do with pony tube, considering if it was corp he'd just DM me on discord which is far faster and actually gets things done. I don't offer a competing service to ponytube anyway, so that point is also moot.
If the twiflag was corp, then that's on them for not reading the previous threads or paying attention to the half dozen places I've said Z+ is temporarily closing due to hardware costs. TPA remains online I just can't actively update it due to time as previously stated in archived threads.
>>
>>
>>43268405
No, not really. I help everyone I can and do what I can to fix things that need fixing. I'm passionate about pony projects and am still keeping everything online.
I'm basically left to assume people avoiding contact are people whom I would likely not enjoy said contact with. That's great, because that means they're self filtering and saves me a lot of time that I otherwise don't have. Speaking of, I'm outies see you guys in a while.

Please fuck off back to BlueSky instead of being a little bitch. Acting like a whiny retard because of your multiple untreated mental illness' doesn't give you any brownie points and not a single soul is interested about you faux victim playing and deliberate pretend to not understand things. Additional to this your inability to run a simple website, being any amount of tech illiterate, and not fucking up the service you try to provide would be a adequate start. This is without bringing up your proven financial incompetence, even with something as cheap as this.

somehow i missed this before. i guess it's useless to report duplicates there as of now? the only staff member i saw active was Gold Meddle, and even though he's fine i hope i'm wrong

This only affects images uploaded by the Derpi Imported account, whose last import was nearly three years ago. These uploads include Derpi metadata, and the mechanism for transferring this metadata across uploads is not yet in place. While this does impede [Derpi Imported] -> [other uploader] merging, [other uploader] -> [Derpi Imported] still functions as intended.
With all that said, you're most welcome to keep making duplicate reports on Derpi Imported uploads: they will be acted on as soon as the software allows.
>i hope i'm wrong
In the kindest way possible, you are. For all my visible engagement, my fellow staff members have not simply vanished into the aether. As with any healthy volunteer project, they contribute in their own pace, on their own terms.

Gold Meddle is the only active staff. I've been regularly attempting to make contact with the others over the past 8 months but I've not heard back from anyone else. I would have thought maybe after Lotus's April Fools day appearance he would have checked his messages, but no. It just seems so strange to me. Last I talked to them 8 months ago everything seemed fine. They had future plans for PonerPics as well. But since then it's been complete radio silence from them. The dates they said they said they had planned for development came and went without action. I was mainly just worried if something happened. Gold Meddle says they've just been "busy".

Please don't recommend anyone go to the furry shithole known as bluesky. It's offensive.
For what it's worth, TPA has always costed more than I got in donations, and I went into debt to keep TPA up.
As far as tech illiterate, it's been up for 12 years I think that speaks for itself.
As far as cheap, I don't cheap out on what's important to me in life, so we own everything, nothing's rented, and we own the data. We have disaster recovery in place, tape backup etc. I've slowly been building an entire backup of iwiftp as well, so that you too have a disaster recovery option.
Your kofi has been broke for a while, I tried to give you money when I got out of debt officially in Feb. if you fix it, I got 100 earmarked for you.

I don't know what Punjabi enterprise Davis hired you from, but you should know that /mlp/ has a bump limit of 500 posts instead of the standard 300, so "spam this thread until it archives" might be more work than you were paid for.

Hey Floorb,
some people over in the spanking thread found out that a specific paste on ponepaste has become inaccessible? It always returns a 502 gateway error which I find strange because the rest of the site seems to work fine. The paste itself can also still be found in the normal search and is listed as a public link. So it's not a problem with the paste being deleted or privated.
Paste in question: https://ponepaste.org/6509
That paste is the central "story archive" for that thread. It's basically just a big list of ponepaste links.
After some experimentation I also found a second paste that is affected. Like the first one its a "story list" paste that itself links to a whole bunch of different pastes. Not sure if that commonality is meaningful.
Second affected paste: https://ponepaste.org/7575
>>
>>43274384
How odd. I'm not Floorb, so I've no clue why the gateway error happens, but both of these pastes are still accessible through /embed/, /download/ and /raw/:

I am able to reproduce the issue in production but not my local copy of the site. Recreating the paste doesn't fix the issue. I think the issue is with the Pastedown syntax. Give me a day or two, I'll see what I can figure out. Unbelievably busy right now.

Orrrr you could just ban retards individually instead of entire continents. Not even American and even though the majority of them I see online nowadays are insufferable (especially on here) I've had many good conversations with levelheaded Americans back in the day (though this was way before the smartphone-ification of the internet).

I dunno if it belongs in this thread or not; but I recently got a webring working for anons who have their own personal web / fansite to link up together; since I felt some anons may get some use out of it. https://mlp-ring.neocities.org/. If anyone wants to suggest changes to make the ring and site itself better / links that I should add to the link page, i'm all ears for recommendations.

Placeholders used to test the indexing; until some sites can join in. I think having websites like the one made for /aj/ general (and hopefully websites made for other ones) plus personal sites would be cool.

realistically is there any reason cloudflare hasn't been shot up yet

The main attractive part of Cloudflare, other than being free, is that they have dozens (hundreds?) of Tbps of network capacity across dozens of datacenters, which means that any volumetric attack traffic can simply be absorbed, due to the way the Internet works. No amount of application-level challenges will do anything if some kid can just pay $10/mo to flood the 1Gbps port on your server with 50Gbps of traffic for an entire month.

Everyone's lazy and useless. The only reason the recent version came about is because the motivation of spite was just enough to get someone to do a low effort job of cropping ponybooru out. Meanwhile, adding other sites to the image takes more effort than that.

I'll have you know the image was meticulously edited to restore order: the previous /fast/ banner has a seemingly random light strip above the Twibooru ident, but with that wretched rectangle removed, the strip perfectly lines up and blends into the Derp of Ponerpics.

So they can be backedup.
There are hundreds of stories and it would take ages for me to do it manually.
