Jo was a nice lady and a talented singer, but trying to cover Ray Charles was not a good idea and this record veers dangerous into Pat Boone territory.

Just a little disclaimer that Stafford and her husband were based out in LA and mostly had creative control of their music, Mitch Miller was not really involved with making it.

she was really not much in the looks department, probably not surprising considering her family were Appalachian hillbillies who moved to California

like a lot of her peers (Doris Day, June Christie, Kay Starr, etc) she pretty much gave up in the 60s and mostly quit recording or doing live performances even though her voice was still in great shape and her rare public appearances in later years suggest it held up late into her life

As same here. Stafford lived to 91. In general a lot of pre-rock singers lived to 80+ because it was a pre-drug use generation.

Most pre-rock singers from their interviews were pretty boring NPC kind of people. Entirely different mentality from the Rolling Stones or something.
