Anybody else a fan of this genre? Post your favorite tracks/albums/artists. I wish that this band in general was more well known. A lot of great tracks in this album such as this one.

I pretty much only care for the OGs of the genre: The Cramps. RHH is alright too but not really my kind of humor.
However I have also seen Koffin Kats live before and their records don't do much for me but I would see them again easily.

I dearly love the first 3 Rev Horton Heat albums, the og psychobilly scene had died off by then and they were mostly playing to punk, metal and alternative crowds and kicking all kinds of ass, moshpits were fucking insane at those shows. Then around 96 the psychobilly revival started happening and everything turned into pic rel, the quality of their albums fell off a cliff, like they were just playing to their own crowd and scene instead of being this oddball band that didn't fit in

Elvis Hitler sounds a little bit... hair-metally to me.

I prefer the more pronounced chugka-chugka sounds of the upright bass in my psychobilly like Nekromantix or Batmobile

Hank III is so fucking cool. I just love the idea of the Third Country Singer in a row going crazy and doing his own thing. It's not THAT surprising that a wealthy heir gets into drugs and counterculture and goes off the reservation... but Hank III in particular did it with style. His 6/6/6 concert with Danzig was a really cool show, I wasn't there but it's on youtube and it's sweet.

I actually really like the reverent Horton heat (my bass teacher was a big fan, and played a copy of there cd for me when it was new)
Tiger Army kick ass too, batmobile,The Meteors, Nekromantix, of course everyone likes something by the cramps.
Music like this feels nostalgic for me. Reminds me of a more innocent time.

>>130425624
I love this album, but it's not psychobilly. It's more in line with '60-style garage/psych rock. Not enough rockabilly influence for this to be psychobilly.

Psychobilly is a very unique subgenre when you think about it. I don't think any other style of music came to fruition out of turning the death of an old one into a macabre joke.
Honestly I would be interested to hear prog get a psychobilly treatment.

No King Kurt? They were the big Psychobilly band in England in the 80s.
https://youtu.be/aS9uPvAvqc0
>>
>>130434395
Most of what counts as "Psychobilly" comes from the Cramps, first and foremost, and then the Meteors and, of course, 50s/60s rockabilly. Here's my attempt at 10 essentials:

Songs the Lord Taught Us - The Cramps
Out to Hunch - Hasil Adkins
Disgraceland - Elvis Hitler
In Heaven - The Meteors
Fire of Love - The Gun Club
Bullshot - Link Wray
Demented Are Go - In Sickness And In Health
Batmobile - Batmobile
The Full Custom Gospel Sounds of... - The Rev. Horton Heat
Fireballs - Life Takes Too Long
>>
>>130451098
I'm drunk so I fucked up the formatting here but don't sleep on Fireballs. They are a horrendously overlooked group in the Psychobilly canon, and they're honestly one of the best to ever do it. Heavy Misfits influence on this record, which is also their best.

not too familiar with shockabilly aside from the cramps and uhhh.. idk, does dead moon count as psychbilly?
>>
>>130459159
Dead Moon is very garage-y. They remind me more of the mid-to-late 60s and 70s than rockabilly so not really. They’re a cool band, by all means, but there’s not enough 50s in them for them to be Psychobilly.

If it ain’t got none of this going on, it probably ain’t Psychobilly:
