Anyway if you wanna learn 7ths 9ths etc unironically that Persona 3 Tartarus song i posted is great. It's literally just that over and over. It will drill them in your mind and muscle memory:
https://musescore.com/user/12226836/scores/7010124

this dude does a little bit of more fancy stuff with it, because he is good, he fills the empty space between the chords with more progressions because the og song has multiple keyboards and you can play 2 keyboard lines if you are good enough:

Because you're learning songs, he is learning the basics about how to do chords. He means whats on the OP is basic.

And yeah the piano is possibly one of the easiest instruments to get into but one of the hardest to master.
Piano at this point has a crazy skill gap between virtuosos and casual players. And all this happened before the 19th century.

Found a Yamaha DX7 VST and I want to whip up a little thing with it. I have Bass 1 loaded, OP4's switch set to Fixed, and there's a very audible pop like a vinyl pop which I don't want, but I like setting OP4's switch to Fixed. What do? I keep messing with shit but nothing's working. I can force the velocity to negative numbers with Ableton's velocity device, and then the bass sounds just the way I want it to without pops, but I want to work just within the DX7 for this. I hate music theory. It's fucking retarded. Oh, a span of 2 tones? Yeah, that's "a major third". 6 tones? Yeah, that's an "octave". You'd think it was a joke, but no, musicians really are this stupid. Oh, it's historic! We used to only have 7 notes! 7, right? So why do you think a note has an interval of "1" with itself, instead of an interval of 0? Oh, right, because music was the pastime of people too stupid for basic logic.

I posted this a lot but I am so happy with the result. It's capable and interesting but mostly it's ninja quick and efficient. I just need a shitty Glarry and midi switching on push button to select which synth I want it controlling.

>>
>>130508407
>Oh, a span of 2 tones? Yeah, that's "a major third"
Nah bruh, that's you being a fucking retard.
"Tones" are not scale degrees. What the fuck backwards-ass language is your mother tongue? Mother tongue your ass?
>>
Maybe you guys can help me out.
Been trying to find the exact synth sound used here:
https://youtu.be/yYFdxrkBqMA?si=-QazFddAnuAJbLqa
The sort of harpsichord? That starts right at the beginning of the song.
It sounds like a sort of harpsichord but I'm not sure if that's really it, it has a very unique sound that I haven't found anywhere else.
As far as I could find investigating the band, it could be from a Yamaha YQ series sequence
>>
>>130512040

Hanon a hack.
If you want to play etudes, you've got Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Godowsky...
>>
>>130514509
Recommending Chopin and Rachmaninoff to a bunch of noobies is basically giving them a one way ticket straight into tendonitis city. Sure, they're objectively better studies, but not for someone who can't play Hanon at a good tempo in all keys with little tension. If dislike Hanon/Czerny and want some of that autistically optimized 19th century piano studies you can try the easy Moszkowski etudes or the Cramer etudes.

tabs or letter notation or sheet music notation?
based on vibes because you didnt specify how good you are at theory it will take you 6 months to be "decent" which means to be able to write decent piano lines for your songs in your DAW

you wont be a fast player or have amazing ear at 6 months but you will be able to come up with progressions that are catchy for your original songs.

Neat. I think that'll be the next piece I learn.
Jelly of that dude's large hands.

By the way, you should have worded it the other way: that Hamauzu's progressions sound like Debussy's -- your way is like saying Michael Jackson sounds like Bruno Mars or some shit, as if Bruno Mars came first.

>By the way, you should have worded it the other way
i just woke up, with a hung over lol im still in zombie mode brother my brain is foggy
>>

That's ok; I write dumb shit all the time and look back on it and am like 'wtf, how I did I fuck this up?'
I watched the clip again and was surprised to see that he didn't play those huge chords with his left hand even though it looks like he should be able to stretch them (my hands look a bit smaller [I think] and I reach all the notes, but I wouldn't be able to get a good tone out with speed in the context of the piece).
In this case, playing the top notes with the right hand makes sense, and I don't feel too bad about needing to do that.
>>
>>130550664
I did the same when I played that piece, I stretched the first two but played the rest with the right hand. No point in overworking yourself if you can help it.

>when I played that piece
Very nice. How long ago was that?
I'm just curious because I have a ~two decade hiatus, so you never know.
I just know I'm going to order the sheet music and it's going to arrive on a rainy day and get soaked just like my last two orders.
>>
>>130551148
I played it in 2019 and then again in 2021. It's the only Debussy piece I've learned so far, since then I've played mostly Ravel for impressionistic music.

>I just know I'm going to order the sheet music and it's going to arrive on a rainy day and get soaked just like my last two orders.
That's why I bought myself a big ass android tablet for all my sheet music and a pedal. No hassle, no pencils, no erasers, and I don't have to print anything for accompaniments and such.
Bärenreiter and Henle for example sell their music as PDFs, or you could search IMSLP or sail the seven seas.

>Ravel for impressionistic music
Same... but just Miroirs and Jeax d'eau (only ~halfway through this one so far; have to push through the boring part in the middle right after the climax around measure 47)
>big ass android tablet
I thought about this -- one of those drawing tablets that could double as a display for sheet music, but I can't give up paper.
I usually print out pieces from imslp and also buy a couple copies from different publishers/editors if I'm really serious about a piece.

the computer's only function is a bunch of chord/arp shit for fills; I get great shit from Kontakt's irish harp section and their chink/jap vst pack... Yangquin or something?
I play the leads off Uno's sound and the B1 in more heavy distorted acid bass "leads".

I see you're really into hardware with atrociously designed UI

boughted 49 cheap shit ~5 years ago but couldn't learn to play properly because never had the time
Still can't play for fucking shit but helped to produce a lot if shit but even a dickhead like me wouldn't stoop to anything less than 49 keys. What's worse, I wanna some shit with aftertouch

tl;dr: I love my keys
>>
>>130560204
It does bother keyboard natives. But I'm not one. Also I'm doing chords and sequences over bassline, you don't need speed.
>>
>>130560473
As soon as I find a switching system that lets me randomly use an 88 key I'm getting one. But I need to control whatever, whenever.
>>
>>130560473
>49 keys
SAD!
>>
>>130561758
naaaaah, it's fine
Not like I play concertos or something, so works for me. Yet
>>
>>130561758
even my mini synth keys (except yo Donner, we gotta talk) are functional to play live- but of course I want 88 for everything.
>>
imagine being able to suck the fingers and right foot's toes of your teacher, wouldn't that be something?

huh?

A midi switch that lets me use one output from a controller then route multiple input to synth units...

Do your synths not have midi thru?
>>
>>130563200
They do, the Uno Drum and Donner B1, and Uno (?lead?) are chained for timing based on the drum machine.
I want to pick one at a time OR bass and lead together... or just run something off VST from the PC but that's rarer because idk I just have a thing for analog.
For a grand total of $350 with various sales and shit, it really covers bases if not covers them completely like some $5k Roland.
>>
>>130563730
I don't get it...
>I want to pick one at a time
Just assign them to different midi channels and switch the channel output on your keyboard controller...
>OR bass and lead together
...then set these two machines to receive from the same channel.

What am I missing?
>>
>>130563906
In a rare moment for 4chan, I admit it now appears to be what I am missing.
I'm going to hammer a nail right through my penis in shame.
>>
>>130564165
>I'm going to hammer a nail right through
Don't do that. That would hurt.
>>
>>130562106
lol wut
hahahahahah

>>130561907
49 keys people never git gud
>>
>>130565735
Enough for DAW shit. At least we can agree that 24 and 32 keys definitely suck
>>
What motivates you guys when practicing? Is it learning how to play the piece? Using the piece to just get better? Right now I don't really care about the pieces I practice on, as long as they help me build better technique and understanding of music. With that said, when I get a piece that actually sounds nice it is more fun to practice it.
>>
made this last week, kinda like it, just a mellow chill kinda thing: https://vocaroo.com/1mVCWOBXb2A9

any opinions? yes it's piano playing it's not midi
>>
>>130568098
i like finding out what makes songs tick, what make the juicy parts feel juicy, if that makes sense. that or the simple question: is the song fun to play?
>>
>>130508407
I had the same frustration learning theory for the first time. Try dropping traditional music terminology for the moment and instead go back to foundations using pitch class notation. Get comfortable with how diatonic scales and chords are constructed at a fundamental level and understand the quality of the intervals that go into them. It might help you accept traditional terminology as the collection of shortcuts and heuristics that it is.
