not exactly, they're named after the logo of the amps they use
>>
>>130565857
>I always say "sun o"
just say "sunn" if you don't want to sound like a dork who didn't get the memo.
>>
I will say "Sunnnn Oh" forever. Also, drone "metal" is not music.
>>
>>130565857
sun owowowowowo
>>
>>130569568
Why, cause it's distorted? They play the distortion. Also honestly only worth seeing live, the recordings are a weak simulacra
>>
>>130569965
no because it has no rhythm
no rhythm = not music
simple
>>
>>130570033
You are very, very stupid.
Everything Sunn does has rhythm, in fact most of it is in 4/4, it's just slow and mostly doesn't feature a drumkit to show you the beat.
You might as well just say that Brahms isn't music because there's no audible beat.

Are you just 12 years old or are you actually retarded?

ambient music has been around since the 70s and is not only widely accepted/listened to but is also widely used in media
>>
>>130565841
I mean, it’s not as if you’re hearing anything else, is it? These dudes play one note per hour and let the feedback do all the work for them. they do say that most of your tone comes from your amp, in sunn’s case they leave the responsibility of actually playing their instruments up to the amp too.

Is this album good? I listened to it once and it just sounded like one of their live shows. I really only liked Black One, Monoliths & Dimensions, and the split with Boris.

i enjoy not only ambient but also drone music and the most experimental stuff out there.
sunn-o'malley is still dogshit and the biggest fraud of the last 20 years.
>>
>>130572284
what is even "pseudo conceptual" about it lmao it's not Caretaker or that annoying 9/11 guy it's just ambient drones made with electric guitars
>>
>>130565841
I almost fell asleep while sitting down at one of their shows

>fraud
what exactly are they defrauding their audience about? their name is a direct reference to the amplifiers that make all the music, as well as the band that influenced their whole sound. the worst thing i think they do is just camp one sound until the end of time, which, plenty of bands do

Uuns?
>>
>>130573122
It's sonically uninteresting but wearing the mask of distortion to hide the fact
>>
>>130573122
Yeah I've always interpreted it like the amps are the band sort of. Turns out if you crank these amps up and drone out single chords it sounds fuckin sick lmao
>>130573156
nta but I was a Sunn hater for a long time until I saw them live. You know that sort of residual sound wave you get when you play two notes at the same time? Like the two waves combine and leave a 3rd audible oscillation happening? When I saw them live you could hear those really clearly and it felt like they were composing shit with them. The whole presentation and how it appears on paper is pretty gay but if you take it as I explained it they're actually doing something pretty unique and interesting, imo
Def not for everyone though, most people just see robes and single chords for 3 minutes and call it gay
>>
Thomas Dolby legally cannot endorse audio equipment due to his stage name
>>
>>130573156
distortion is part of the sonics it's not like there's some secret pure SUNN OOO experience if you could hear it on acoustic guitars real softly, the distortion, feedback and interference adds harmonic content so the music is much more complex harmonically than whatever notes they happen to be playing but this is just too complex for brainlets to understand apparently
same like how metal uses power chords because the distortion actually makes it into much more complex microtonal harmonies and using more complex chords as a base would fuck that up, yeah I know this whole 'ackchually metal is really intelligent and complicated like classical music' is cringe but that's just how it works sonically sorry sweety
>>
>>130573195
>nta but I was a Sunn hater for a long time until I saw them live
listen to life metal rehearsal it's the purest sonnu experience on record
>>
>>130573156
they certainly could come up with newer or more interesting drone
>>
>>130573122
>>130573156
even the way they "admit to being a fraud" is a fraud they hide behind.
stuff like "we don't do much, the amps do all the work" is ridiculous because LOUD crap doesn't make it less crap whatsoever.
