Look I have to come clean with you guys
I've been advocating ebikes for twenty years as part of a fiendish global conspiracy to inconvenience drivers, terrorize pedestrians, and supply homeowners and landlords with as many tacitly dangerous incendiary "batteries" as can be manufactured.

Used to have a nice ebike, lived in a good city for it for about a year. Got priced out of the city, couldn't find work outside of temp labour and living situation got rough. Had to leave town and move back in with family, back to the deindustrialized wasteland/bedroom community I grew up in. Bike got stolen a few months later. Can't afford to replace it on my part time wages, had to pick up a cheapo crappy tire bike, took me months to save up for it and it's hard to get around here with all the hills anyway. Usually I just take the bus now. Life's been rough. There's been good things here and there, but life's been rough. Sometimes I think about the state of my country, and the position I find myself and my friends and family in, and I just feel numb. Shell-shocked. Anyways, I don't mean to put that on this fun little cycling thread. I just found out this board exists and I'm quite happy. But thinking about cycling right now definitely stings like a fresh wound.

upgraded the front wheel after a pedestrian tought it was a good idea to jump in front of a moving car
luckily everything else was fine and no one got hurt
>>
>>
>>
>>2066910
that's just the design, if I had the money I'd have fenders that fit neat to the wheels but the front one cant even attach because my bike has no front eyelet by the QR hole
>>2066909
the shifting is OK, but I think the chinese mech brakes are far worse, they are nearly useless and require a shitload of force to actuate.
>>
>>2066926
You can cut down the rods so the fenders fit better, it helps better cover from rain too. Measure several times before cutting. For the front, you can mount at the fork mount similar to your fork mounted pump but on the lowest mount, it'll require cutting quite a lot on the fender rods. Another option is modifying p-clamps or even hose clamps

I'm not sure how imprecise my impressions may be, because I'd been using a whole different wheel entirely before
I've only been riding it since saturday (a bit over 200km), but thus far I like it
I don't feel much drag, it fares well on rough terrain too
Feels grippy on wet asphalt too
I was previously riding a Vittoria Zaffiro Pro (25mm) on a regular VZan alloy rim laced to DiaCompe Gran Compe II hubs
The rim got completely fucked
>picrel
upgraded to a Rigida Nova rim with the same components as before but like 3 days later I got this new wheel, so I don't have enough time with it to have an opinion

yeah, I thought it was official.
usually the sponsorship doesn't go on the consumer bikes, but there have been exceptions. there was a 90s MTB brand, Barracuda, and if you bought the top model, it came with the Dos Equis sponsor decal. presumably there's others, can't remember. but a lot of old pro bikes get on the used market with the team branding, too. that's a lot more common.
I did a thing like you and branded my bike as though it were sponsored by Schlitz Malt Liquor.

Almost finished, just need to install FD. It's a 6 speed because I could only fit a 3 speed freewheel on the single speed hub. That said I wanted bolt on hubs so I don't need to bring extra cables when grocery shopping and they are safer for my type of abuse.

cool. but all black is for basic bitches.
the one place on a budgetmobile it is acceptable to buy high-quality prices is tires. get well-rated road tires when those chaoyangs wear out.
it's funny to think that Merckx or Le Monde could have won the TDF with your bike in the 80s. all bikes should be "budget" builds unless you're competing above cat 5, imo.

any problems with putting a carbon post into a metal frame? I feel like I read somewhere that you're supposed to file off the inner lip of the seatpost so the hard edge doesn't stress the carbon into a groove?
what about grip paste? is that for carbon-to-carbon only or also carbon-to-metal?
>>
>>2067937
>get well-rated road tires when those chaoyangs wear out.
I'm planning to, any recommendation?
When I bought them, I thought they were bad, but the puncture protection is so good, I roll over glass several times during each ride and has no visible cuts (also no flat tire) yet at ~2500km. Also very little wear on the rear tire, looks like it's gonna last at least 6000km

I just went with Conti gp5ks because of the popularity and they're pretty great. twice what I've ever paid before but I'm not extremely poor so I didn't mind.
on my utility road bike I have panaracer pasella PTs which seem fine. people put them on faster bikes and seem to like them, but my bike doesn't perform at a high level. had marathons before and I'm not getting flats with the pts so I'm happy.

I dont ride it often, my state has very little paved biking paths, its all crushed limestone.

i dont feel like driving over an hour for some paved action.
the slicks dont like anything but asphalt

explain how to run any tire for any other conditions than the one specifically designed for that bike when part of the frame had to be cut out just to accommodate an already bald tire
what happens when your rim is damaged and you have to change it
what happens when the included bottle gets damaged or simply too scummy and you want a different way to carry some water
what happens when either derailleur suffers damage and needs replacement
what happens when you want to install a headlight
what happens when your front gear teeth wear down
what happens when a crank cracks

My defunct tribe. Got it all tuned and lubed today with some new tubes.
It’s very beat up after years of drunk falls and not being stored very well. Want to get a new seat and grips soon. Also maybe some thinner tires since I think it has a factory defect where one of the rear forks isn’t pinched around the tire so I get a lot of rubbing.
Any suggestions for rust and chipping paint? I don’t care if the colors don’t match perfectly but does anyone have a recommendation for a heavy duty spray paint ment for that sort of application? Some of the hardware is rusting but I assume finding replacement nuts and bolts is easy enough.
ALSO I don’t know dick about brands, any suggestions for a similar kind of bike? I like them simple like a fixie but with a free wheel and actual brakes. Wife wants something like mine.

Are your rear dropouts funky?
Like, they're semi-horizontal, but there's a section at the back that's a separate hole?
>>2068310
>rust and chipping paint?
I used to paint over the bits with clear nail polish. Then I stopped bothering.
Kind of like, if you get a new bike, new phone, new car, etc. The first thing to do is purposefully put a scratch on it.
Get it over with, so you can stop worrying about it.
>hardware is rusting
What kind of steel/finish? Chrome plated, stainless, 'black oxide', etc? There's techniques for all of them. Take a few pics & make a collage.
Maybe a year ago I wanted to reuse an old hub (Shimano), so I re-ground the cups/cones & parkerized the rest of it (axles, washers, conical springs, etc).
Can't remember if I posted pics, but I feel like I only post in "classic/vintage" threads.
>similar... simple like a fixie but with a free wheel and actual brakes
Get an old road bike, and 'convert' it. Which is mostly removing shifting bits, maybe dealing with some spacers.
Check this out, the info hasn't really changed...

yeah, yours is an actual track bike State probably makes some but that looks like a street bike to me so I'm pretty sure it's a flip flop. Yes, on the track they even leave the cogs and change the crank wheel instead sometimes.
But I have a fixed hub both ways, with two different cogs so I can change ratios on the road.

I wanna change the rear rim for a carbon fiber one as well and with deeper walls, I believe something between 55mm and 70mm would fit perfectly
>I can't track stand, have to learn that.
after years I finally learned to trackstand
just go to a park nearby and spend a day trying to balance yourself on the bike however you feel comfortable
In a day or two I kinda "got it", despite being wiggly as hell, and then started practicing whenever I had to stop the bike

it's harder with heavier gear ratios, but you get used to it
when I'm riding my other bike (46/15) it's waaay easier to skid, and requires way less effort
also you spin to the desired position in less time since you're spinning faster for the same distance covered
but it's doable, you'll soon ride your 49/15 with the same ease you used to when you used the 17t cog
Your muscles will get stronger and everything feels comfortable again
And then the 17t will feel light

On the site it says it weighed 28 lbs. I bet you could shave off a few pounds with an aliexpress alloy fork. Changing out the square taper bottom bracket to an an external bearing unit with a hollow spindle 2x crankset like an ixf would also help. I did that to the ladybike but with an alloy suspension fork and it dropped pounds off the bike. I didn't weight it but it was very noticeable getting it in/out of the trugg.

The wheels are too nice for the loom I'm going for but it was cheaper than buying the wheel I needed. Maybe I should strip then but at the same time I feel like it would be a shame. I'm going to put white bar tape so that it gets dirty very quick, that will help with the look. Also using ancient brake housing which is transparent. Front derailleur shifter is going to be a seatpost mounted friction shifter.

land yachty, but stable. no good way to unweight over bumps. calf, back of thigh and ass muscle activation, not much quad use. starting from a full stop is awful, maintaining speed is okay. soon i will be replacing the grip shifters and getting that extra cabling under control.

ok, so the advantage is fun. could you elaborate on that?
as of long as it's worth it to you. it's neat looking but I just couldn't understand from your initial answer, the differences you listed were all negative.

Nigger if you're gonna have your kid on there you can even step a meter back like you did to take that picture. All it takes is 1 spastic moment from your kid because a bug flies into its face or something and your kid hits the ground. It's just so much more convenient for cargo bikes anyway.

You never carried a child in a seat.
The ONLY kickstand i would put on, instead of the one i currently have, is a stand directly attached to the rear wheel, like you see on vintage indian or chinese bikes. Find me a decent one.
If you really care for a baby in a bike seat, you should stop every single step-through bike frame with a baby seat installed. Those are dangerous, those will result in the bike tipping over because the adult cannot control the balance of the bike with his/her thighs.

Dude you can get a claw hanger adapter and literally any silver derailleur to slap on there and you will greatly improve your aesthetics.
>>2069955
Yeah altus is fine but seeing it paired up with raceface just looks wrong. You got a bottom of the barrel derailleur paired up with a boutique crankset. You could spend $30 and put a 90s deore XT derailleur that would still work better than that Altus and fit the style better.

Another bike of mine along with the green crossroads. Probably one of my favorite ones to ride. It's so fun and nimble. Plans are to make it 1x with an XT link glide groupset, a new fork with a million mounts and a surly moloko bar and use it for bike packing. With the huge space in the frame I could fit a giant frame bag in there.

Thanks. I plan to have it redone when I get the new fork. Plan is to have it powder coated as close to the og color as possible. I don't know what happened to this bike before I got it but the entire drive side of the frame and fork looks like it was dragged across gravel, but I don't see how it could have gotten damaged like this while having pedals installed. It's really odd.

Reeee its cleared for now with rattle can satin. I will probably clear the Walmart and shitbike graffiti text decals once they arrive. I tested them with the clear on the tube and they didn't react so I should be OK.

You have a Kona, that already makes a prime target for thieves by your standard, but you actually have it wrong. I used to be friend with bike thieves and I have my childhood friend who is now a crackhead who sends me pictures of stolen bikes hoping I buy one for crack money. They're often big box store pieces of shit. They look at features, suspension. Upright comfortable position. Disc brakes. Names are a bonus. Your bike is already a prime target for thieves. Your altus isn't deterring anyone. Might as well get a nicer derailleur.
>>
>>2070106
Internal routing is just faster. And it doesn't get dirty, because real cyclists aren't retards who ride their bikes in dirty conditions and reduce their life by breathing in cagie dust and retarded opinions like yours.
>>2070111
If crackhead bike thieves don't care about Brands then why do they all wear Supreme? Checkmate. That bike will NEVER be stolen.

I swear I have never been so confused by a board. Are you fuckers just illiterate? One retard who thinks it's a self made frame when if you just read the thread you see it's a walmart bike. Then there's your dumb ass talking about how it has 10k worth of stuff on it when, again, it's a fucking walmart bike. To top it off you then say he's doing it to make it look cheap yet, if you read the fucking thread, you see he's doing it to imitate the look of titanium. I am honestly fucking shocked how stupid you fuckers on this board are. And it's not just in this thread. I don't know if it's just you two retards who I stumble upon in other threads or if the vast majority of you fuckers have the reading comprehension of an inbred Sentinelese islander.

pybt isn't a narrative. nobody reads it like one.
the misunderstanding here stems from the fact that you have some extreme form of previously unidentified mental illness closely related to social media overuse.

Mostly finished with the drop bar conversion. Just got to get new semi slicks, cassette, chain, and crankset since they're shark toothed or stretched.

All my older Full Sus xc bikes were fun, but the flat/riser bars were always uncomfortable so I always had my hands on the inner bar ends. Its more enjoyable on light offroad stuff for me since I already like gravel/cyclocross bikes. Also using a retro xc full sus was the cheapest way to do this out of curiosity. This bike only has 117mm rear and 108mm front travel so it was low enough for mixed riding.

Was thinkin about it, but wasn't sure what chainring and cassette combo i should go. The hardest hill was doable on a 38x32t on a 700x32 hybrid, but i rarely ever do climbs. this bike is a 22/32/42 9-speed 11-32t 26" with a riveted crankset so I cant just swap to a narrow wide without another crankset. was thinking a 34t or a 36t would be good for mixed riding. 38t-42t I like only for city pavement riding.
>>
>>
>>2070248
The crankset is riveted so i cant remove any of the chainrings. The only other spare cranksets I have are ISIS drive which isnt gonna work with the GT's Square taper BB. I just leave it in the middle ring when riding anyways.

Using a Jesus is King bumper sticker cut down to the crown logo for the head tube badge and gave the rest of the sticker to a friend. I couldn't find any parody badges so I used this and it fits the graffiti/spray can vibe somewhat.

Light adjusted to look more like how it looks irl. Sort of a poverty satin titanium finish but only in low light. In broad daylight its just a bright silver but thats where the glitter layer is supposed to kick in and dazzle the onlooker.

We're Americans and ameriboos that only use bikes to ride for pleasure. I had my bike in the back of my car to go for a gravel ride after work and discovered that my alternator was bad and drained my battery so I walked a mile to a parts store to buy a new battery to drive to my mechanic because it was faster and cheaper than a tow. I would have rode the bike but it didn't have a rack to I carried a car battery back on a mile walk. Fun times. Bikes are a form of transportation are a foreign concept to us. You bike because you are a cyclist or a bike guy in America and its a leasure/fitness activity only

Thanks.
They used to be old UK framebuilders. In another forum a user told me it's 80s-90s at the latest, but the previous owner told me it's dated back to the 1950s, and that someone had brazed on extras like the canti brake bosses. The previous owner said they had refinished and repainted it, so the frame stickers are left over from them, they also bent the rear stays to fit 135mm hubs (although I think they fucked it as the rear wheel doesn't sit true, so thinking of a dot of jbweld to even them out)
I'm between them, I'd like to think this frame is only 45 years old rather than 75 years old. But the detail on the lugs could suggest it is from the older era.
