Federal class-action lawsuit alleges Colorado is holding children in juvenile detention for weeks or months after they should be released.

Nonprofits say this violates constitutional rights and affects vulnerable kids, including those with disabilities.

Main issue appears to be lack of placement options, not legal justification.

Option 1: keep kid without a place to go warm during winter
Option 2: fewer kids (or more breakins etc)

>The orphanages are full so the kids must now go to jail
Grim. Also, dumb as fuck. Imminent domain a hotel, cut jail staffing to pay for it, and put whoever suggested jailing kids for being homeless under the jail.

Even if you accept this vector of argumentation, wasn’t Trump going to put an end to this vast overreach of federal power? Wasn’t reining in the government a big part of his platform? Why is it good now that he’s doing it?

That's a good question, and Barack Obama faced similar questions when he promised to shut down Guantanamo Bay and end forever wars in the United States
Democrats didn't protest when Obama started bombing Libya like they protested Bush entering Iraq. I guess they just had a more open mind about a black president blowing up Hajis in the Middle East
