>A regional Air Canada jet collided late on Sunday into a Port Authority airport vehicle at LaGuardia Airport in New York, an on-the-ground crash that demolished the front of the airplane, killed two pilots, injured dozens of passengers and prompted the airport to shut down on Monday morning, law enforcement and aviation officials said.
>At least 41 people were transferred to local hospitals after the plane, which was operated by Jazz Aviation, struck a rescue-and-firefighting vehicle that had been "responding to a separate incident," a Port Authority spokesperson said in a statement. Two of the injured were Port Authority officers and the other 39 were passengers, officails said.
>"The airport will remain closed until at least 2 p.m. Monday to allow for a thorough investigation," the authority said.
>The collision happened shortly after the plane, Air Canada Flight 8646, which was carrying four crew members and 72 passengers, touched down, according to Port Authority Executive Director Kathryn Garcia.
>Jazz Aviation, which is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, issued a statement confirming the incident, saying it happened at 11:47 p.m. Air Canada said on social media that it was "aware of an incident" and that Jazz Aviation would issue updates as needed.
>All passengers have been accounted for, Garcia told reporters at a pre-dawn press conference at the airport. An unaccompanied minor on the plane was reunited with their family, she said.

>Thirty-two of those who had been transferred to the airport were later released, Garcia said, adding that several others had serious injuries. Two Port Authority police officers who were injured -- a sergeant and an officers -- were in stable condition at the hospital, she said.
>The regional jet involved in the collision had traveled from Montreal to New York, according to Flightradar24, a flight information tracker. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear. Preliminary information appeared to show that the flight had landed on Runway 4 and was rolling down the runway when the collision occurred.
>The National Transportation Safety Board said it was sending a team to investigate the crash. Chair Jennifer Homendy will serve as the on-scene spokesperson, accompanied by member John DeLeeuw, according to the NTSB. Those investigators were on site by the time Garcia spoke at about 4:30 a.m. ET, according to the Port Authority.
>New York City Emergency Management said in a statement that its first responders were present at the airport, adding that the initial response from the Fire Department had ended.
>"Units will remain on scene with a watch line that includes one engine, one ladder, and one battalion chief," the NYCEM's statement said. "The NTSB is on scene leading the investigation."
>The pilot and the co-pilot of the plane were killed in the crash, multiple officials briefed on the situation said earlier. The New York City Chief Medical Examiner’s Office was on-scene early on Monday, and officials were awaiting confirmation of the identities of those who were killed. Next of kin were to be notified before their names were released, officials said.

>The ground vehicle -- a Port Authority Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting -- had requested permission and had been cleared by the air traffic controller to cross Runway 4 at taxiway Delta, according to audio recordings. Shortly after that permission was granted, an air traffic controller was heard telling the vehicle to stop several times right before the collision, according to the recordings.
>At least 18 flights have been diverted from LGA following the airport's closure, with most being sent to New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport or to New Jersey's Newark Liberty International Airport.
>A union official had earlier told ABC News that there were two individuals who had been injured in the crash, saying they were Port Authority police officers assigned to firefighter duty at LaGuardia Airport.

Because we weren't dealing with a record low of air traffic controllers and funding. The central problem is airlines would rather stretch their current controllers thin than actually make the job pay enough to attract new ones, and it's ALREADY difficult enough for get said new ones due to the massive requirements to be a controller.

They saved literal dollars! A few human deaths and a destroyed plane and millions in damages from delays is but a small price to pay for the sake of smaller government. Actually we should consider letting ICE run ATC. Biden did this

No, you have a ground controller and an air controller. The ground controller taxis planes to the runway and hands them off to the air controller. The air controller takes planes off of the runway and hands them to departures. In this case, the ground controller handed the plane off to the air controller and was trying to get the firetruck across the runway.
Or this is how it SHOULD work except it was just one guy doing it. The difference is staggering, because air controllers should be capable of not just monitoring takeoff traffic but also landing traffic. So picture doing the job of 3 people, oh and a firetruck wants to cross an active runway.

There comes a point where you wonder if there's any cheese around the holes in the first place.
But hey, someone saved a few shekels somewhere, no-one had to worry about silly things like 'worker's rights' and certainly no consideration was given about every aviation rule being written in blood.

There's also the requirement to live in OKC for a while for training, and having no choice in where you work afterwards. Even though ATCs are generally considered to be paid "well" for their area, that's some shit that generally demands much higher pay.

A bit of clarification for the hell of it. There's clearance, ground, tower, departure and approach. Clearance delivery is often handled in the tower. Ground and tower are always handled in the tower, as far as I'm aware. Departure and approach is usually handled off site. It sounds like there were two controllers in the tower. One handling clearance delivery, and one handling tower and ground at the same time. I feel like it's often clearance and ground that are combined or all three are combined, but I don't have a ton of visibility into how things are run on the ATC side from where I sit. Basically everyone I know, who is also a pilot, recognizes that ACT has been getting the short end of the stick for decades, and it's sometimes a surprise to me that there aren't more fatal accidents.

It's been building up far before this. Remember when Trump came into office and immediately started either personally making or letting DOGE make a bunch of cuts? Well one of the major recipients of said cuts were these guys.

Yes you continue to vote Democrat, I take it.
Interesting.
>More regulations!!!
What are the current regulations and what are their shortfalls?
>I DON'T EVEN KNOW!!
I know. Yet you'd support making the job more difficult without even knowing. Interesting again.
>3 deacades without incident
SOMETHING NEEDS TO CHANGE NOW!!!

Piggeral propaganda. Hang yourself.

>I unironically think democrats are corrupt retards and can say that with a straight face as this admin that has enriched the president by over a billion dollars does literally anything.
>hang yourself.
I know the world must be really scary to a chronically inadequate idiot. You are right to feel this way. You aren't built to survive in this kind of society, everything is moving and changing so fast. You are a burden on your family, and society at large. Put the barrel in your mouth. Taste the oil and metal. It will be oddly soothing. No one will miss you. Everyone who knows you will be better off, and you won't have to live in a constant state of paranoid terror. Pull the trigger.

Hey retard, we actually get something for how much goes to healthcare providers. Trump just fucking feeds his own wealth and we get jack shit; if anything it hurts us because he's fine fucking up prices country-wide just to make a few million off insider trading.

Oh, its much worse than that.
Trumps corrupt friends shorting the market ahead of his tweets is taking billions out of Americans retirement accounts.
We're not even seeing the benefits of the market going up

Its not perfect, but its still better than the Bush years. I remember my mother being told that insurance wouldnt cover anything regarding her autoimmune diseases because they were "pre existing conditions."
Sure wish you Trump fuck boys would actually grill him on the repeal and replace promise he made 10 years ago. The ACA sucks, and needs a better replacement.
