the last 10 years but the last 5 specifically
LED headlights need to be banned as a safety hazard and anti-human.
the ban should be retroactive, meaning every fucking moron that bought one of these nucar shitboxes needs to prove they retrofitted properly aimed halogen headlights before they can renew their registration.
pic very related.

Do you go outside and stare at the sun too?
>>
How did this shit get passed? How is it only getting worse?
>>
boomers are the only ones who can afford new cars and their eyesight is shit
>>
>>28900833
there was nothing passed, headlight regulations haven't been changed since 1986 and they were designed for halogen bulbs. fitting LED into the same standard allows for literally unlimited brightness.

>Chris Trechter, a lighting-focused engineer who used to work for Magna International, the largest automobile parts manufacturer in North America, told me the company would adhere to 108 in making headlights for clients like General Motors but that the rule is “archaic.” “It does not account for LEDs,” he said, “and there are giant loopholes that allow you to throw basically unlimited light as long as you meet all the other aspects of 108.”

I would if the sun was a few feet from my face taking up my entire field of vision.

>>
>>28900851
if oncoming car headlights are a few feet from your face and taking up your entire field of vision then you have much bigger problems to worry about.
>>
Regulating emission spectrum peakiness, color temp, and flicker would do way more to reduce eye strain and nighttime accidents than letting laser beams adjust where the light pattern is pointed

nope. the only requirement is it can't create glare in certain directions, which they just aim it so it doesn't go in those directions. headlights have no limit on brightness at all, which is why headlights are more than twice as bright now as they were 10 years ago. see >>28900824

The problem is that modern beam forming is so aggressive you can read close to zero in the region they measure from and still have essentially unlimited brightness elsewhere.

It's like helping crippled or diseased wild animals. Nature, humanity notwithstanding, has been shaped by the process of natural selection. The second you begin catering to the lowest common denominator and its ilk, is when the species as a whole begins to deteriorate.
People don't look at their side mirrors. What do we do? We put little blinky lights in them to let people know there is someone in their 'blind' spot. If they don't use their side mirrors in the first fucking place, what's the goddamn point?
On a daily basis, without fail, I approach these vehicles with the yellow 'blind indicator' lit and they begin moving into my lane before using an indicator anyway. People become displacement, further relying on nanny controls to do what their attentiveness should have already covered.

Boils my fucking blood.
>>
>>28903493
That is such garbage design. It looks like an indicator (for other drivers), but it isn't. It flashes, it's orange, looks like an indicator. Genuinely and impressively dogshit design and execution. I can not believe how fucking bad car design and production has gotten lately. Some of these lights simply stay on (toggle), whereas I've seen others that flicker rapidly. I don't know if this is intentional or buggy, but I specifically seen said flashing one 4 days ago on a freeway and it was retarded and very distracting.
>>
>>28901955
I love getting flashbanged because the oncoming car hit a very small pothole
>>
>>28903493
>>28903497
i don't think i've ever seen any blind spot indicator flash when i get near a car that has one, it's just a red or orange light that stays on and it's on the mirror glass itself (lol i wonder how much replacements cost). maybe i just haven't seen one yet.
but you really don't need those because even cars with flat mirrors can almost completely eliminate blind spots, it's just that nobody knows how to adjust them properly, and it shows the absolute state of car design when the manufacturers aren't pushing back and saying "no, people need to learn how to adjust their mirrors we should not cater to idiots"

start a shill campaign where e-celebs on instagram and tiktok etc. suddenly make selective yellow lamps the "in" thing to get. before you know it everyone and their grandma (and especially their grandma) will want them for their own cars and it'll usher in an age of selective yellow LEDs

On a road with oncoming traffic your visual range without being a nigger is low beam range, just 50 to 70 meter. That means when driving at 60mph your braking distance with cat like reflexes is well above your vision range, 100m.

Is there actually a good use-case for auto on the lights dial? I never use it but I've noticed most cars I see (e.g. passenger of) they just keep it on auto and never touch it. I'm too used to doing everything myself, even something small like lights.
>>
>>28904130

I can think of a couple, one being retard-proofing and another being manufacturer retard design decisions

>Retard-proofing
A lot of cars outside of Europe have DRLs that show illumination at the front of the car at all times while driving, but that don't light up the tail lights, auto lights will light up the tail lights when it gets dark and will stop some retards from just driving all the time with DRLs on and nothing else

>manufacturer retard design decisions
Some manufacturers have decided that leaving-home and coming-home light functions used by people living or parking in poorly lit areas only work when auto is selected, this wasn't always the case

its crazy how this just got slipped in. tl;dr, car manufacturers can pay less taxes because they get put into a different car category if their vehicle is over certain size, so its being exploited to all fuck. its why trucks suddenly have these MASSIVE front grills that when you open are just full of plastic? since that massive hood "takes more square footage", its in a new category and doesnt need to conform to whatever regulations. its pretty nuts.

they are literally just making cars unnecessarily large just so they can sell the same car to you at a higher profit margin. crazy shit

Welp, people keep buying. Clearly people don’t mind paying for 4Runners the size of Sequoias and Tacomas the size of F-150s. Complain as much as you want, but the average consumer has no issue racking up debt to buy a new car every few years (then complain about affordability issues lol)

This 100%. I guarantee its not a problem in Vermont or Maine.

Also, aftermarket headlight LEDs say Offroad Use Only right on the package. Selfish assholes ignore that and install the highest lumen bulbs on sale.
OEM LED headlights are properly designed to not blind other drivers.

Wrong, they literally cheat the max brightness regulations by dimming it only where the testing equipment measures it.
