A/C really doesn't drag much unless it's blasting like crazy, my Honda cruises fine with the fan speed and temp on minimum, but if you blast it, the car will only do 60 mph with as much throttle needed to normally go 80 mph, I think the condenser get heatsoaked or something and it causes drag, because my A/C is super cold, and the heat has to go somewhere, makes the engine bay scorching hot when I blast it.

I know, but all that heat that is being transferred into the evap core when you blast the shit out of it at full fan speed, then into the condenser which makes it it seems to cause higher A/C pressure, which means more compressor drag, and why the car becomes an inefficient snail that you're practically slamming on the gas and getting barely anything out of.

>if engine braking turn on the AC for a bit more lol
Kek it actually works, one time I thew it into neutral for some rev bombs, put it back in drive and it was like someone hit the brakes when it went back into gear with the compressor engaged.

i dont really notice a drop.

The ECON made of newer cars is really quite amazing at not running the A/C to the point where the car is struggling to move, my car is old and dumb where the A/C is amazing but if you leave it blasting becomes inefficient.

Economy loss is about 5% to 7%. I live in Australia and I don't really utilize the aircon until it's REALLY hot. Then I run it full blast until the car is cooled down and then run it on the lowest fan setting to maintain temp.
Not a big fan of auto modern dual climate control. Give me a temperature control and fan control any day.
Simple as.

Based, that's how you're supposed to do it, cars have protection in place to click off the compressor so that the evaporator doesn't get so cold it freezes and causes a problem, but they don't have anything to slow the fan down when the condenser is condensing a little too much heat and causing massive A/C drag.

Yeah I fuck around and do my own AC gassing and servicing. The more air going through the condenser, the more efficient your AC is going to be.
I set my pressures at idle and you'll get one temperature out of the dash, once you jump in the car and go for a drive you'll get temps way colder coming out of the dash. This is on a 40*C ambient day.

In my maverick hybrid the AC reduces mpg from like 40 to 37, there's no drag or anything associated with the AC but the engine will kick in more often to charge the hybrid battery.
It's better to have the windows up and use the AC by far above like 45mph. Having the windows closed lets you use the stereo at lower volume which uses less power from the hybrid battery... Since everything 12v is charged by the hybrid battery with no alternator.

This isn't that cold. On a 40C day, you should approach freezing on the highway fully cranked and in re-circulation mode.
I only charge my AC on a 40C day to ensure this.
Chinky vaccum pump, AC lines and gauges and a bottle of HyChill will set you back $400AUD. Good for 20 charges. R134a is dogshit compared to HyChill.

If you ever wondered what kind of poverty spec shitboxes and garbage ass vehicles the average 3rd world /o/ enjoyer drives then this is the thread for you.
"muh mileage"
"i turn AC off and its like sport mode!"
"i use MY AC for engine braking"
"AC kill your power"
"AC doesnt really keep you cool in the sun"
>holy fuckin shit these people

Some people like cars from the last century.
In the '00s car AC systems switched to electronically controlled variable displacement compressors instead of acting like an on/off switch that drew the full level of load from the engine any time the compressor kicked in so you'd notice the added load more easily on older AC systems.
The more you know.

Looks like my butt dyno is properly calibrated, because my 2004 piece of shit really doesn't lose much speed with the A/C clicks on at minimum fan, but when it's max fan speed and you're accelerating, you get a crazy torque dip, it practically stops accelerating like you hit reverse vtec.

My car didn't get the memo because it's the slowest fucking thing ever when I'm blasting to cool persnickety passengers on a hot day, A/C works comfortable though but the car efficiently only goes 45 mph, it's insane.
