How's the Mazda3 fare against the Civic/Corolla? Wanting to buy a reliable car, maybe used, and Honda/Toyota is generally more expensive in that market. Also I think they look better. I've heard good things about them but my mechanic friend told me today that they are shit.

>not nearly as nice as the Kia K4
Hahaha! Yeah, right.
>its basically a decade old and they have shown they are totally unwilling to update it at all
Yep, its proven reliable. It'll be a fine reliable cheap commuter as opposed to a fucking Kia.

just drive them both and get back to me
yes, the mazda is a better steer, but the suspension is rougher and its overall like driving a much cheaper, older car with less well programmed software
kias are reliable as fuck

Used? They're a top-tier option if you need an econobox. You'll get a better deal on one than you would on a used Civic or Corolla. They're super reliable. Feels good to drive, with no CVT and good steering. Should be cheap to insure.
New? I'd suggest a Civic or Corolla hybrid.

Because Honda's B16A and K20A were simply bullet proof and had some of the best horsepower per litre at the time for naturally aspirated engines. Toyota (1/2JZ) and Nissan (RB26DETT) had excellent starlight 6's. The Co2 emissions terrorists killed many excellent engineering accomplishments.

I wouldn't consider a NEW shitbox without it being a hybrid, the advantages make the entire drivetrain better. Transmission on hybrids is better, 4 cylinder with instant torque, ability to drive with the engine off, instant AC/heat because it's electric/part electric, and then using 40% less gas.
I would consider only a civic hybrid, corolla hybrid, corolla cross hybrid or ford maverick hybrid

Yeah and in city it's a bigger gap. I'm getting 5.6L / 100km in my maverick awd.
It's a pretty big difference when gas is expensive

Mazda is an absolute no-go brand for me now. Sadly had to spend over 20k on this mistake.
