they do?
So far the only group of people i managed to find with 'ku is a group of dads that ride in the weekend and are 2fast4me.
Riding today i crossed path with a couple in sporty (cbr650 and what i assume was a similar yamaha R, can't recognize them at a quick glance) and i remember another day i saw anoter couple both with ninjas.

Yamaha girl (or twink) was funny instead of doing the usual 2 fingers thing waved to me in an exagerated and comical way. they where having a lot of fun i suppose

Btw i got a zandona hybrid back pro, very comfy! i loved armoring up i feel like a jhon halo with my full gear

What gear do you cheap out, and what gear do you always buy the best quality (or at least best safety)?

helmets are fairly cheap for a ece 22.06 compliant one, but what about other areas?

are $200 gloves with pinky bridge and leather palms worth buying, or are my $50 Five textile gloves good enough? do I need $400 Klim pants, or will my $50 "Kevlar"-lined jeans protect me enough?

That new Revolution max motor is really a lot of fun. Normies are having trouble accepting the Sportster S runs like an MT-10. The Sportster S is just a little too sporty for the day to day riding I do. I need decent 2-up capabilities, real saddle bags, at a minimum. If they made a nightster with that 1250cc I would trade my Dyna in for it in a heart beat. Maybe we’ll see one.

It's been nearly 5 years, no reason I cant post this now

This one totaled out my DRZ, took me out for 8 months, fucked my knee and shoulder up and the depression of being stuck inside with one working arm and leg through all the beautiful weather not being able to do anything damn near drove me insane.

The silver linings were being union I continued to get paid my average wage until I could go back to work, I found out I had a lung problem that would've likely killed me were it not found and operated on within the next few months. After that surgery - which sucked - I can breathe better than I was ever able to. I also kept my DRZ and took the insurance payout for it, was able to fix it for a few hundred bucks and still have it today.

k

Not an ABS system on earth that could've done better.

For the few yards until I hit the car the bike was on the front whee and my ass was over the rear fender. I intentionally pushed the back end out, leaned back and kicked the bike at the car so my leg didn't get crushed between the two and let the bikes suspension take the worst of it and I'd hit the seat instead of the car.

the $100 BMW gloves are pretty good and have warranty.
For bikes at a certain point more $=more features, so just stick with reputable brands, and what fits right.
Good fitment will alleviate wear better, but nothing can beat the sun damage if you do a lot of miles.

Yeah I’m real partial to these. Probably the alpine star equivalent to the Joe rockets. I pick a pair up every spring and they’ll have holes June, by July I’ll have fingers hanging out. Glad I’m not the only one this happens to. Ask me in a few months and I’ll share. Glad I’m not the only one.

To be fair, I have thick winter gloves I’ve had for years that have held up okay, but the stink can get pretty awful.

>>28912371
>>28912365
I think we’re going to continue to see Harley succeed. Since they dumped the cuck ceo they’re doing a good job making bikes that appeal to zoomies, that are actually affordable. I’m not worried about them. 20+ year old $3500 Harleys are more my thing anyway.

>>28912356
Maybe this is the way. Just get a few pairs for each season at once and rotate them. I have a ton of gloves I’ve accumulated over the years but the only ones that have withstood the test of time are the fall and winter gloves that are much thicker and frankly see less action. But again, the smell can get fawnky

There’s a lot of interpretation when you say “chopper”. You could buy a complete bike and chop the rear fender into a bobber, and at that point you’ve got a chopper. I’m going to assume you mean a rigid hardtail though,
If you want to go big twin you’ll want to get a complete bike. Something like a ‘95 softail would be great. Then you get a rigid frame that’s compatible. Check lowbrow customs to see what you’re in for with frames. There are countless other companies but that’s a good start. So is prism supply. Move engine etc etc to frame. Buying a complete donor bike will be infinitely cheaper than trying to source the parts individually. I suggest finding the cleanest example you can.

Or you get a 03 or earlier sportster, and get a weld on hard tail kit. Cheaper but not half as based as a big twin chopper

788.7 KB
788.7 KB JPG
>>28912620
Also, if you’re looking to build a rigid frame chopper you’ll want to avoid the dyna altogether. Unless you’re specifically trying to build a twin cam chopper, but generally speaking evo big twins are the preferred route. You can use a dyna as a donor but you’re going to pay the dyna tax, which would be silly when you can get the same exact parts you’ll need from a 30 year old $3500 softail

>>28912658
There’s going to be some pretty big differences. For starters, if you go big twin you get a much larger engine than the 1200 or 883 that the sportster comes with. You also can put a larger tank on. So right off the bat you’re going to have more fuel capacity and more power.

Your bike is also going to be a lot more valuable. The sky is the limit with well built custom choppers. Sportsters with hard tail frames are a dime a dozen on marketplace and Craigslist for <$2500. In fact if you want to go with a weld on kit, it’s almost always cheaper to just buy one that’s already had the work done. It’s easy to look at that $400 hard tail kit and think that’s all there is to it, then before you know it you’re thousands deep into a bike that’s never going to be worth anything. Can’t even trade them in because the frames are modified.

If you want to go rigid I’d just stop looking at dynas altogether. Look up dyna choppers and you’ll see they are few and far between, and always end up fugly. Softail is de way

1985-1999 Evo Softail for donor, then pick out a frame that best matches the look, style, and performance you want. That’s the best way to go currently without going nuts and spending a ton of money on a shovelhead, pan head, or the fabled knucklehead build

Tank you my brudah. I appreciate that advice.
>before you know it you’re thousands deep
I’ll probably just wind up hanging back and buying something someone’s already had done, then going from there. I saw an absolutely beautiful 74 shovelhead the other day. It was gorgeous. Pretty sure it was a custom frame. I wish I saved a picture.
I love the thinner rear tires, sissy bar and kick starter. Probably will go with an Evo though.

That’s a solid way to go. For some, it’s the build that’s the most fun. They’ll build an awesome chopper, ride it once, sell it for a loss, then immediately start building another. For others, they just want to ride a rigid. There’s an understanding a dangerous old rigid with no front brake is about the most fun you can have on the road without even breaking the speed limit. You hit 55 and you really feel like you’re doing something dangerous, and a lot of the time, you really are.

I’m really into the Indian Larry style of chopper. He really built his bikes for performance while also staying true to what makes choppers so much fun. I’d definitely suggest checking them out.

I want to start a build myself soon, if only to keep me busy during the off season when I’m not riding so much. But I’ve also got a full shop, I can weld and own welders, and am equipped to do so. Without all that already in place, it’s going to teeter the line between fun and a nightmare.

Gob speed, brother

Yeah you'll be okay, you can't flat foot it or anything but I was able to get both feet on the ball, or comfortably flat foot one foot without much effort, and you don't really need to be bale to do much more than that on a dualsport anyway. Maybe see if you can get a test ride but otherwise you should be fine. Also take a look at the KLX250/300 as they're very similar.

Chopper bros- I have another question. So if I were to decide to keep my 2012 883 and turn it into a chopper, no matter what I do to it, will it always be smaller than a softail that’s been chopped? I love the profile of pic rel, but at 6’3” I wonder if I’d be too big for a build like it.
>>
>>28912266
They certainly make it easier if you're the least bit interesting or attractive. Real chads don't need it, but it's mighty helpful for borderline bros. Or so I would assume because even at 5'6" and VERY fat I occasionally get a few women asking me about my bike. That's an opening a better man could turn into something.

Scramblers can do a decent amount of off-roading, especially in the right hands, but they also have the drawback of often being based on normal road bikes which means they just don't take the drops and crashes as well. I remember seeing a video of a guy just doing some dirt trails on his Triumph Scrambler and was generally having a good time, then caught a rut from some rain washout and dropped it, and it managed to break the ignition and completely immobilised the bike and basically rendered it unable to start until it had a new ignition fitted, and ti was right in the middle of the sticks.

I went into TVS motors. They manufacture bikes of thier own and now they have a JV with BMW. I got special permission, no phones allowed so pics. It was a large campus, over 300 acres. Everywhere is the spotless and so clean. I saw assembly of lot of different vehicles. I saw F450GS, but all of them were alloy wheel base variants. Then I saw a few Norton Atlas 650s, then the G310RRs. All beautiful bikes. This was assembly. There was a separate place where the manufactured camshafts, separate place for heat treatment. Lots of robotic arm thingys. My friend and I were discussing that one of these machines will cost more than our entire life savings. I also saw battery manufacturing for CE02. The entire line was stopped because of no sales. All the machines looked very expensive and I didn't know what any of them did. They looked cool, almost all of them were running Ubuntu. Lots of good looking Jeetas inside. There was a small test track too, but I wish they let me inside the R&D and Racing department. That was completely off limits. Thanks for reading my blogpost.

I built pic related… gosh, must have been almost 10 years ago. I always said I wanted to build another, but I was going to start with a much cleaner example sportster than what I originally used. I found no matter what you do though, these scrambler builds just don’t hold up to purpose built dualsports. They’ll rip a single track, and the extra torque from the V-twin is kind of a game changer than say a 4-stroke 250cc, but man when they go down.. they go down hard. Then you might spend the next hour or two having the worst fight of your life trying to get it back up right. I think the next bike I build is going to just be a bare bones rigid chopper. No front brake, rigid of course, springer front end, foot clutch with a suicide/jockey shifter, no gauges or blinkers. Something that gets up to the speed limit and you really feel like you’re doing something.

>>28913424
It will be marginally smaller, but not unrideable. You can set the foot position, bars, seat, however you need to fit. You’ll just have less power because 883. You can bump it up to 1250cc with a “hammer kit” but you’d be into it for at least $2000, before labor. There are just so many advantages (especially financially) with starting with an evo softail over the sportster, it’s the way most guys go. With the softail you’ll have a bigger motor, bigger tank (if you choose to use the donar tank), and bigger wheels. Check out the measurements yourself to compare

Honda Motorcycles are premium products. A CT125 is not supposed to cost more than a 1000 bux if it were made to a price point. Take Navi, it won't have the same quality or the paint quality. But, even a CB300R is made by Honda with Love and it shows. My Fit's paint is not bad, but IDK if its as premium as in a Goldwing. Maybe you should compare Acura or NSX.

Honestly, I like the smaller tanks like my pic rel. also, I like tires about that width too.
My only concern honestly is how much it’s gonna end up being, and how in the world I could pull off chopping and welding the frame. I wish I knew who I could go to and how much they’d charge to chop and weld it.

If the 883 is your only bike, and you’re dailying it, you may want to consider if a rigid is something you’ll even enjoy. I would love to have a chopper in my garage, and I’m planning on having one, but I’m also going to have 3 other bikes that aren’t rigid. You can buy these parts that turn your sportster into a rigid, you may have seen them. They’re basically static metal pipes that bolt right into where your rear suspension bolts in. You can always remove them and put your shocks back on too. That way you can see what riding a rigid is really like. They can be absolutely brutal. There’s a reason you never see those guys going anywhere too fast.

Oh yeah I mean it was a combination of bad luck and unfortunate design specific to that bike but yeah, for me personally I'd rather use an adv or dualsport for that kind of riding, but there's nothing saying you can't do it on a Scrambler. I must say after seeing this I was quite tempted by a Ducati Scrambler.

One of my bikes is at the dealership, I'm going to get it back tomorrow. The other one is ready to ride but I only ride in the weekends. Weekdays, I work from home so no commute to ride.
>>
>>28913869

Welp. Decided to buy billet velocity stacks for my bike, the HP buff may be negligible (3-7hp) but it'll be cool replacing chipped oem plastic stacks with solid metal ones. The intake sounds will probably be cooler too.

I should, but I'm a stupid fag.

>>28913416

Yeah the headlight for the vit is really cool.
if you like the vitpilen 401 (gen 1 or 2) but want more you could also search for the 701, same engine as the enduro/sumo but on naked chassis, it's much lighter than the 801 and you still have clip ons

In the first few months I got my 2nd bike I nearly got into what would have been a life fucking crash
I was coming up a street close to my house and here the lanes merge. Shitbox to the right of me starts slowing down, I assume for the merge since it’s happened to me on this street a handful of times before so I speed up (stupid)
As I get to around 9k (50ish mph) RPM the white blob pictured starts braking hard with no signal and takes the red path as to do a U-Turn
I immediately brake hard but felt that it wouldn’t be enough (stupid) and swerve what felt like an almost 90 degree turn into the empty turning lane around the now completely sideways and stopped car.
These days I just cover my brake and ride very carefully around cars unless the lane is open but I would pay a king’s ransom to see a video of how it all went down in realtime. It can’t have possibly been as cinematic as I remember it
>>
>>28913886
I'm pretty excited, from what I've read it's much more than fuddlore. Granted we aren't talking super crazy performance enhancement but it's still something.

would riding to work make me enjoy my commute more or make me resent riding?
>>
>>28913897
Both, because you would have to park amd watch the rain tickle the seat absent your bootysweat
Imagine, having to face the cheeks of a thousand buttholes- but only yours is the chosen one with the keys
>>
>>28913897
can you lane split?
can you get there without sitting in traffic, is there a 'scenic route'
>>
>>28913885
i like the look but theyre so smol in person
also ktm / husqvarna is a hard no for me
>>
>>28913912
I can but traffic is only a slow down when theres a crash and that’s maybe once a month, which I of course can’t predict ahead of time.
The normal route is the highway, the scenic route is suburbia.
>>
>>28913919
to the original question, I think you are going to be able to separate "i hate commuting to work on a bike" & "I like riding a bike". it's not going to make you hate riding, it will make you question your life choices of "do i need this job that makes me commute so far" "what can I do for a living that would let me ride more often"
I would at least try it one or 2 days to see how you deal with it.
if its gonna rain, or im running late, its a lot easier to hop in the car and just go, but im not happy about it
>>
>>28913897
not really
you simply just going to stop commute to work with your bike when the honeymoon phase is over
but you will still take out your bike for other stuffs like before
I had to commute to different town at least once every other week which is about 1-2 hours trip so 4 hours round trip, i once tried to do those trip in a bike instead of car
after few trips I simply just go back to mostly use my car and maybe do a bike trip every now and then instead
but I still like riding around my own town when I go to cafe and all that shit
>>
its way too hot out today.
i atleast made use of it and got the rest of the warning stickers off my tank.

ive been commuting to work for years on my motorcycle, i dont even own a car anymore.
hobbies really only go one of two ways. either
1) they become totally integrated into your life to the point that theyre just your way of doing things: cookery, doing everything by motorcycle, or by bicycle, hunting and fishing, reading, many things become like this for many people
2) they fall by the wayside, faster or slower, and they were just something you enjoyed for a while. this can take a long time. many people motorcycle on and off for decades, until eventually they realize theyre twenty year old motorbike has 2000 miles and they sell it for a song. or they lie to themselves until they die, and the bike collects dust in their garage until the estate is cleared out.

What’s a modern equivalent of the FZ6 fazer?
Lightweight compared to other tourers, comfortable for long miles, reasonable maintenance intervals, exciting high revving engine with lots of top end, and a reasonable windscreen for long days in the saddle.
Not looking to replace it until I absolutely have to but I do like entertaining what a good next option is. I was really into the idea of a street triple 765 for a while but after learning about how demanding the maintenance intervals are.
The tracer 9 is interesting but it’s super fugly and lacks revs

I'm looking at this suzuki rg 125 for my first bike. It's cheap and I don't mind the small engine. Does the engine sound fine to you guys? 42000km on it, should I be worried about that? I'm mostly looking for a bike for a couple summers before I jump on the bike I inherited from my dad.

Larger bikes really aren't that common over here and they get expensive fast. 125 are popular because one can get a license at 16 to drive those.

Even an old CB300 or CB500 is like 4-5x the price of this suzuki.

cruisers are for cruising on the highway. what you need is a maxiscooter.

i realize that this is falling on deaf ears but a maxiscooter ticks all the right boxes and you can even store your helmet and gloves under the seat. take the maxiscooter pill and be the envy of your peers.

Mechanically speaking- it’s fine. Starts, runs, drives, shifts fine. I just never drive it. It’s got ape hangers, screaming eagle exhaust kit, needs a new front tire, and the rear breaks probably need replacing cause they just don’t work. It’s got about 10k miles.
