I have an opportunity to acquire a 91 850i.
It’s a 35yo car
I’ll just be a weekend car.
Is this v12 problematic?
I hear these models were built well. No plastic or cheap rubber.

That's like winning the special Olympics. You're still retarded at the end of the day.

manual or auto? extremely comfy high speed cruiser.
parts will be rather expensive though. some seals etc. you can only get from germoney

The V12 is actually surprisingly stout. Your main enemies will be general old car issues, the sheer number of maintenance items (lol dual redundant fuel systems and three ECUs) and model specific parts being annoyingly expensive.
If you can deal with it then it's basically the ultimate croozer, slower than you think it is but enormously comfortable and stable and god is it a good looking car.

You will deal with German problems
You will also deal with 2x / 3x of everything because those krauts were so uncreative they just bolted 2 inline 6's at the crank and did fuck all to streamline the mechanics.
TWO throttle bodies
THREE ecus
TWO Fuel pressure regulators
Amongst other things
However it is objectively the best looking thing the Germans ever made and you can do drive bys in them thanks to not having a giant B pillar in the middle of the door.
If you're not a pleb
If you're not a poser
If you are actually mechanically and electrically inclined
If you have the tools
If you have the garage
If you can commit to throwing away any semblance of savings
If you don't care about single digit MPG from the V12
Then yeah, get that car.
However if you know you're not him
If you know you don't got what it takes
If you know you'll fold under pressure
Then just go get that civic and learn the basics from an inexpensive platform.

I may hate krauts, but I will say 1 thing about them.
They make good inline sixes.
However, do you think that gets doubled or halved when mated to the crank?
Only time can tell and only soft handed faggots have 850s now so we will never truly know their capabilities because they're hijacked by posers.

Like a year or two ago, one was floating around the BMW dealership in my city, going for a laughable 10k, so I asked what the deal with it is:
>engine lightly fucked
>3 fingers fit between the tire
and wheel arch on one side
>2 on the other
So a white niche car buyer, who we should assume is a reasonable driver, unlike some half-black turk hooner, was capable of bending the frame and ruining the engine's idle, in a well-maintained city with no potholes and rounded curbs.
This information is anecdotal and take from it what you want
Also
>the wipers have active pre-tension control

Why are you asking about this car like it's on the lot? Is the engine problematic? It's a 40 year old V12. If you are a wrenchlet this car, and any 40 year old car, is not for you.
These cars are for two types of people idjits and people who own every tool and a multi-process welder.

ITBs are mechanical, and doesn't have a TPS per TB. Nice try tho

Anon, I know you were never told this but the exception is not the rule.
Cool to see SOMEBODY thug it out, so thanks for that.

Oh yeah because that's how it works. You just bolt two blocks together at the crank.

4hp series has a problem with the shaft seals. As they degrade, they will allow the drive and reverse clutch packs to simultaneously engage and cause immediate failure of the clutch pack A, resulting in no forward drive gears. Do not rev the engine in park or neutral until you know the shaft seals have been replaced with Teflon seals, or modifications have been made to let the pressure bleed off.
