Why is an i6 more appealing to a v6?

a v6 is basically two i3s which, as we all know, is the most soulless engine configuration
2x0=0

The i6 is an inherently balanced engine the physics are all in agreement everything is fine.
With a v6 you have problems. Engineers don't want v6 it's bad but the accountants and marketers want the v6.
The V6 engine is the monument to engineers putting lipstick on a pig. They try and try but it's never going to be as good as an i6 or a v8.

v6s are functionally superior, the only reason anyone likes i6s is because they are usually overbuilt and detuned to handle the stresses involved in operation; even though they are naturally balanced the long i6 block, cams, and crank are subject to torsional energy that limits potential displacement and increases the weight of the block.
V engines were developed to replace inline engines at a time when it was harder to engineer a long inline block that could withstand the stresses of utility work. V6s were first used in heavy trucks because they were physically stronger than the i6s they replaced. V8s replaced I8s for a similar reason. Inline engines just suck. That's all there is to it. Anyone claiming they are good is a busrider and a moron.

I’m not the fag you’re replying to. Just another fag with questions.
While the I6 is favored for its durability and tuning potential (seen in legendary engines like the Toyota 2JZ or BMW B58), the V6's cost-effectiveness and versatility in diverse vehicle architectures make it the industry standard for mass production.
Basically it’s just cheaper?

I6 engines are built well, v6's are hated because they are the default "premium" option that show either you are too poor for a v8+ but too insecure for a i4. Very few manufacturers actually try to do anything with V6 like Nissan does.

If the v6 platform is so great it must be popular with trucks and heavy machinery right? Oh wait it's not. There's no such thing as a heavy v6 it's always i6 in heavy applications.
The v6 in car applications only exists because it's attractive to marketers an accountants.

>inherently balanced
God this trope again.
That trait means nothing.
We're not sand casting on a floor in a barn.
We have harmonic balancers and counterweights now.
There are V8 race cars that rev to 20k RPMs and I4 motorcycles sold down the block that live at 13k RPMs for hours upon hours, day after day. Those engines are better balanced than any I6 ever produced.
The I6 is trash.
It holds zero motorsports records.
The only people still clinging to them are semi manufacturers and retards like at BMW.
Take your outdated fanboi bullshit back to /mlp/

Its a misnomer.
Fucking moron.

that is literally what the v6 was invented for

There's no such thing as a bad sounding inline 6. V6s are hit or miss. The greats like the Ferrari 296 or Mercedes C43

...are far outnumbered by ear molesters like the V6 Mustang or Edgar's G37

harmonic balancers are still used on l6s to counter torsional flex. my old 7m had a big fat crank pulley and not just because of all the accessory belts, it was pretty heavy too.
still though i luv me straight sixes, working on jap ones at least is pretty comfy
