They obviously don't do as good of a job of cleaning shit off your car (especially if it's built up).
The main benefit is they also don't scratch your clear coat.

Decent for maintenance, bad for a deeper clean, just like a spinny brush car wash but with swirl your paint. Fully depends on the chemicals the wash uses since there's no useful mechanical cleaning
