Is offroading about the vehicles or is it about the /out/?
If it’s about the /out/ I don’t really get it. Once you take away the places that are served by roads, the places you aren’t allowed to drive, and the places you can’t get to even with a 4x4, how much is really left? Seems like if you want to get away from things you would be better served by driving a sedan to where the asphalt ends, getting out, and walking orthogonally to the ohv trail.
If it’s about the vehicles themselves and pushing them on difficult terrain I can get that. But it seems a waste as a way of getting to nature.

>how much is really left?
Depends on the terrain. If you like deserts and beaches, there are plenty of remote places you can drive your 4x4.
Even in rural areas in Europe, it's not that hard to get remote. A couple of weeks ago, my neighbor told me about plots for sale (he had just bought one) in a little settlement of about half a dozen off-grid houses in the middle of a Army training range near our town. It's accessible by two unpaved roads, one 4x4 only and one that's passable by normal cars when dry. On the weekend, we loaded up the kids in the car and drove out there to take a look. After we got to the edge of our town and onto the sandy 4x4 track going to the village, the only people we saw in three hours of driving were a small group of soldiers walking along the road. They were doing a FTX and got lost. I loaned them my table so that they could get MGRS coordinates and figure out where they were.

2nd
I have between 2-2.5" in the front, more in the back. 265/75/16s fit on the truck stock. There doesnt seem to be any consistency, some people trim, some people don't
>>
>>28936618
Sorry, I'm retarded, they are 285/70-17's, on a 2nd gen Tacoma with roughly 2.5"-3" of lift, King coilovers and dakar springs in rear. Had to remove front mudflaps and trim a tiny bit on the corner of the fender flares.
>>

But they ARE on the list.
So is Porsche BTW.
Landrover won Dakar (in its class) for the first time in Dakar this year.

I owned a TD5 defender, had lots of them in the extended circle of friends.
99 being an early one is the 10P motor which has plastic head dowels - over time the head will shift, it blows the gasket and wipes out the edge of the valves on the bore if it goes far enough. Has to be replaced with the metal ones.
10p TD5 also has the fuel return gallery through the head which when they get hot they very often crack, so DO NOT let it overheat. The 15P fixed this. The temp gauges read in the middle until you get to like 115c at which point its already exploded.
The auto gearboxes are trash and let all the gears out often, especially if you put big tyres on or tune it.
If its manual its a dual mass flywheel and if you clutch dump it hard the pressure plate can fall apart. Happened on my Defender not long after I sold it. Pretty funny.
They respond great to tuning. Once the head dowels are changed, hybrid turbo and a tune flashed on and you'll be blown away.
Hmmm other things that can go wrong on them - the thermostat is pretty common. You need a special diagnostic tool, a nanocom, to communicate properly and do everything in the ECU. Regular scanners will not work properly.
The front end balljoints are very common to fail as they get to this age, and they're an absolute cunt to do.
They're terrible cars if you just want to drive and never have to work on it. Get an 80 series if that's the case.
But if you put in the maintenance, I like them.
>>
>>28937259
Ok thanks for your input. Sounds like it will be a bit of a headache and it is an auto which is a shame. I kinda just want to use it periodically for camping or towing and not stress about it too much so I'll probably keep looking. It is museum piece level nice though most of the ones I see are totally clapped.
>>
>>28937268
Ah it's one of those things that if you get a good one that's had maintenance done, they're really good, but if you get a bad one its bad.
The best ones are the facelift, the D2A, they had the best motor.
It's also one of those things that once you own one and fall in love with it you'll never consider anything else. Stockholm syndrome

As far as the paint, you can see it shows no signs of flaking or peeling anywhere. It has never been painted either. Its an 04 and I may have read somewhere that the white started having issues in 05. The dash never had the recall done and has only one minor crack above the instrument cluster where it protrudes out the proudest. The old couple I bought it from only used it on weekends to travel between 2 properties 500 miles apart and was otherwise garage kept. Ive never driven or ridden in anything as nice and comfortable. phenominal vehicle. I want to scoop up another one maybe in 460 flavor.

03 and 04 are non vvti. toyota says it an interference engine but there are countless stories of those year 2uzs snapping the timing belt and not having any damage. The concesus is that its low intereference if any. anyhow, its a masterpiece of an engine from a time the toyota r&d engineers were being given blank checks and no time limitations. i have no intentions of lifting it or removing the air springs from the rear. i R&R'd the airbags with oem units because 21 years old. I dont want to start messing up all the angles in the driveline that the engineers have perfected for a lift. I upped the tire size 1" from factory. If I want more ground clearance down the road I will have to save money and get a set of 74weld portal sets, 37 or 38 inch tires and really be dabbing on mf's in the trader joes and whole foods parking lots. But im enjoying it as it sits for what it is.
>>
>>28945654
Lift kits are so much more than muh ground clearance. If you really wanted to do it right, you would go long travel JD fab or marlin. JD kit gets u 4" under the LCAs, if that's all you consider, forget about the pumpkins. But there are so many issues with the GX platform you have to fix, much of it because she's a fat bitch. So long travel first then your portals. But I applaud your dedication to keeping your SUV stock, you blend right in with all the other soccer Karens on the road. Real grey man type shit.

>Which is less than half the torque of hellcat
which makes sense, because it's an engine for a light duty truck, not a performance sports car
>and about 25% less than a 5.7l naturally aspirated gas hemi 1/2 ton pickup.
yes, a smaller engine designed to power a smaller vehicle will usually have less torque and power than a larger engine used to power a larger vehicle. i see we wore our thinking cap today
>>
>>
>>28945975
i have no idea where you're getting this idea from that i'm saying the 1VD engine can outperform a hemi or a hellcat, i never said that. my original post was about toyota diesel engines available outside the US compared to the gas v8's in US market Land Cruisers. i'm aware that a 5.7 hemi is more powerful than a engine used in a third world work truck, as is everybody.
>bigger engine have bigger number
yes, we can all use google. you're a fucking moron, dude.
>>
>>28946005
You were bragging about numbers of the turbo diesel and I pointed out that a gas N/A engine has more lb/ft per liter.
Diesels are supposed to have impressive torque numbers over gas. Turbos even more so.
Yet a damn Stellantis pos has it beat.
Explain how toyota failed at such an endeavor.
>>
>>28946014
>You were bragging about numbers of the turbo diesel and I pointed out that a gas N/A engine has more lb/ft per liter.
Yes, regarding a specific class of vehicles made by Toyota.
>Diesels are supposed to have impressive torque numbers over gas
Again, you're insisting on comparing apples and oranges. Engines are built and spec'd for the vehicles they're supposed to go in. If one truck weighs over 2000 pounds less than another, than the difference in torque makes sense.
>Yet a damn Stellantis pos has it beat.
That depends on what you think the ram engine beats it at. Numbers? Sure. Longevity? no, that toyota engine will survive 30 years being driven in the jungle and can be maintained/repaired with basic tools. that's why they're used as aid, emergency, and utility vehicles in countries that don't have roads and the ram isn't. the ram will struggle to hit 200k miles of highway driving without a serious repair. fuel efficency? no. weight? no. overall value? no. see, i can also list a ton of things the ram doesn't meet the mark on because it wasn't built to.

What are the Taliban driving through the desert and mountains? What do they drive in Papua New Guinea, in waist-high water half the time? google earth any third world country and you'll find 20+ year old 1VD land cruisers, nearly all of them from before the 2007 facelift. the sure as shit aren't taking them to toyota dealers or licensed mechanics to keep them running, and Toyota isn't regularly shipping them parts to the moddle of fucking nowhere, so how are they doing it? i get it that people overblow toyotas engine durability with the hilux/tacoma/4runner, etc, but there's a reason people say it about the land cruiser.

>>
>>28946187
nta but it's more impressive that a car from the mid90s onward is still running vs. something pre-1990.
older cars were much simpler and had far less to go wrong. new cars have tons of shit, especially proprietary plastic bits that fail after 20 years. a car from 2005 still running well is more impressive IMO.
cars made in the 1960s were actually made by people who gave a shit too, not union slug [redacted]s.
>>
>>28946187
>I have 3 domestics from the 60s....
Cool, cars that are like building with legos to work on that have a third of the components. Are you going to bring up that a smith corona typewriter is easier to maintain over time than a macbook now?
>You do realize the warlords just send Achmed or Jamal into town with an AK47 and they carjack the first unlucky s.o.b. that drives by, right?
Yes, and then they drive them out in the middle of nowhere for decades. If they've been doing it since the 80's and 90's, those vehicles are still being driven around, and they aren't brought in to Toyota of Kabul or whatever for regular service, then the point still stands.
>They have the internet, right?
So they talk on forums and post their 500,000 mile rigs, right?
IH8MUD has tons of aussie boomers doing exactly that. Idk about forums from other countries. Are you bringing this up to say that i need to provide you piecemeal evidence of something that there have been news articles written about? or are you implying that it's less impressive if people are sharing tips online of how to maintain there vehicles?
>>
>>28946198
>>28946214
ehh, there's all sorts of stories about what line workers did that'd never fly today. and much like today, those cars were also expected to be traded in after a few years. the odometers only had five digits because most people never expected them to last that long. these days a car not going for >100,000 miles is seen as actual garbage
probably the biggest difference is as you say however - simply having fewer features and gizmos means fewer things to go wrong, and when they DO go wrong, well we can repair or replace the component with something that has 50-60 years worth of knowledge and technological advancement so it lasts practically forever, or does a much better job, or both.

Spacers are garbage and drop brackets are also. Longer spindles are generally a 2wd thing. You're not fucking your geometry with proper coils. Maybe if you buy 4" rough country coils or whatever. 2-2.5" is the limit for most ifs mid setups. All he would do is raise the front 1 or 1.5 to level it out. It's ifs, you don't have to worry about all the solid axle bullshit. And you'd get rid of the garbage factory shocks.
>>
>>
>>28948054
spacers over extend the shock, or can cause them to bottom out, busting the shaft. They force the coil into a less effective part of the range, giving you a stiff ride. At full droop, they will contact the spring, and overextend your upper ball. Theyre not a performance or offroad mod, its for looks only. They do no good for the ride or performance.
Cleetus goes out and gets his drop bracket lift or coil spacers so he can run his 24x12 -60 offset with 3" lug spacers on rubber band Venoms around the walmart parking lot on a friday night and look cool, or occasionally driving in a muddy field.
I get it, long travel is fucking expensive, but those mods arent the answer. Just get a nice midtravel kit if youre a brokie.
>>
>>28948127
Your post proves you dont know what the fuck youre talking about.
>They force the coil into a less effective part of the range, giving you a stiff ride
That's not how springs work.
Putting a spacer ontop of a spring doesnt magically compress the spring. The spring will be at the same exact compression point because the weight of the vehicle hasnt changed.
>and overextend your upper ball
Identical thing happens with extended coilovers. If you increase the ride height 2" with a spacer or 2" with a longer coilover the a-arms will be in the exact same fucking position.
Go back to your miata thread you clueless nowrench faggot.
>>
>>28948143
the stock shock doesnt get any longer, you stress them out that way.
top plate spacers shove the entire coil down. there is no preloading with a top plate spacer, it just gets stovepiped down. Proper coilovers have longer shocks and taller coils.
i just dont understand it, why would you want to run spacers when you could get some cheap 5100s and do it right? its really not much more money at all, and you already have to take the front down anyway.
if youre not a retard, you install aftermarket UCAs to actually be able to use the increased downtravel extended coils give you. If you stay around 2", you dont need them.
i kept the entire last thread alive with my wrenching faggot
>>
>>28948152
>top plate spacers shove the entire coil down.
God damn youre a fucking moron.
The spacer only lowers the mounting position. The apring compresses the same as originally. The same as a rear shackle on a leaf.
I guarantee youre one of those braindead NPCs that cant even visualize an apple in your mind.
>>
>>
>>
>>
top mount spacers don't do anything. it's essentially a body lift. it doesnt change the spring, it doesnt change the arc, it doesn't change anything, it just lifts the body. so yes, like other anon said it's basically the same as a lift shackle.
why you would ever both doing this idk.
>>
>>
>>
>>28948543

>>28948543
Nothing wrong with them.
>Put in a 2" spacer.
>Truck sits 2" higher than factory.
Ergo the springs are at the same exact state of compression as factory. If they were compressed you wouldnt be sitting 2" higher. There is no difference in ride quality.
You wont damage the shock because youre not over extending them any amount that matters.
A 2" leveling kit is actually.like 1" spacers because the spring is half way between the pivot point of the a-arm and the wheel.
Youre not.going to damage the shocks
>>
>>28948595
>no difference in ride quality.
the A-arms are placed into the "drooped" position, which pushed the bump more into the body instead of being absorbed fully by the suspension, leading to harsher ride
>Nothing wrong with them.
the ball joints will be near the max angle which isn't great, they'll wear out faster
>>
>>28949335
Identical result when using extended coilovers.
Zero difference.
Because the a-arm geometry never changes. Nothing has been modified so the a-arms, ball joints and spindles are in the same exact orientation when lifted by a longer coilover or by spacers.
>>
>>28949335
>ball joints will be near the max angle
Not even close.
Your saying that rebound articulation is only 2" from ride height.
If you jack up that truck it will be wwwaaayyyyyy more than 2" of jack height before the tire comes off the ground.
Youre completely clueless- its like you've never worked on a car before

>>
>>28949605
>stock 3rd gen tacoma front suspension has 8" of total travel. not entirely sure how much is downward
Dude youre just reading numbers off a chart and have no clue what they mean.
This is fucking hilarious.
Leveling kit spacers have virtually zero effect on ride quality.
It's still stock springs and suspension geometry is altered so little that on most vehicles its within design tolerances and is even offered from the factory on some trim levels.
Ford offers a factory leveling kit for OP's truck that sits 2" higher and has THE SAME A-ARMS, BALLJOINTS, SPINDLES AMD MOUNTING POINTS (M-18000-F15BA).
>>
>>
>>28949622
i see you've conceded and gone from "no difference" to "virtually zero effect"
you'll gradually get there.

Im considering spending something like $20-25k (all said and done) on a wheeling /codaily driver. Ive found a 2008 gx470 with only 160k miles on it but ive also seen a lot of FJs that would be similar or maybe 3-5k cheaper. Is there any major reason to go with an FJ over the lexus? The gx ive seen is at 23k but has all the main work done to it, only really missing skid plates and a roof rack if I decide I want that. There are more FJs usually around 15k ranging from stock to more or less ready to go
>>
>>
>>28957472
I dont think i want a manual for wheeling though. Seems like you'd run into issues that dont outweigh the benefits of manual. Its like the one time auto seems genuine the better choice. There is a nice 15k fj ready to go with like 200k miles near me but its 6 speed stick. Unless im wrong about that but personal use and what ive seen on forums it seems like most people say go auto for off roading. The v8 of the gx is also nice vs fj v6 and I dont commute so the gas price isnt a huge factor

Only get the V8 FJ; the rear e locker is also an exclusive option you can look for but rarer.
Manual is harder but more badass offroad. Was borrowing a 6sp Wrangler JK today and it made me miss rowing gears so badly but reminded me I don't miss the rest of my TJ.
Also you're probably going to be doing like 3k in maintenance the first year which some of those parts can be upgraded for wheeling so add another 2k as mods budget. Plus new meats.

Ended up buying a gx 470 today and after getting how I found out that to use this badlands apex winch I have to pop the hood and finangle the cord for the controller into this plug. This was a retarded way to set this up right? Should I try to route this cable for the controller into the glove box or something and leave it plugged into this box all the time or should I just leave it as it?

What unibody? Are you talking about the steel front bumper itself? I bought this as is but I dont think this winch ever got used. They said it only had ~4k miles on it after the guy did the suspension and other off road upgrades but it looks like its solidly attached

Huh that seems good, so nust leave the right side plugged the engine bay and replace this wired remote. Looks like that might clear the steering fluid reservoir better too assuming it works with all their winches. Didn't realize this was stocked at harbor freight guess ill swing by tomorrow.
>>
>>28958744
Id also like some recommended for air compressors. Currently i have a VIAIR 88P i was using with my bronco sport but this gx is on 34s so thats going to be pushing the 88p. Im not sure if getting an onboard is worth the install effort or if im better off just getting something similar to what I have just larger. With the sto k bag suspension gone I could probably repurpose some of the interior button that were used for that
>>
>>28958744
checked. congratulations on the new ride, it looks good. I have the white one a few posts above. I think you'll enjoy the 2UZ vs a V6 in the FJ. For my needs and tastes it is pinnacle automobile. I named mine Mr Miyagi...a calm old refined Japanese dude that can surprisingly kick some ass if needed. If youre not familiar with amayama or partsouq they are great resources for oem parts in many cases at lower cost than stateside dealers. Type your vin# in the websites and you can browse the oem dealer catalogs down to every last bolt, clamp, small hose and whatnot. I will go there to find the toyota part number and then google search the specific part number to see what the best prices are at that given time. Also i believe Bell Lexus in AZ is subsidized by toyota to sell parts at lower cost online as well. Bell lexus has an ebay account where you can get timing belt or full brake kits at very good prices.
>>
>>28958844
Do you have any misc mods/accessories for your gx that I should consider? For example ive been looking at some of these molle panels, shelves, and tailgate tables. I have 1 fuel can and some recovery boards. Previously I had those on a shitty roof rack but im not sure ill put one on this as if I do id like it to be a nicer low profile one. Putting those items inside seems like a mistake though so consider on the outside of the tailgate
>>
>>28958856
i dont. mine is stock except for wheels and all terrains. Its my daily and not something I want to extensively modify. Ive only had it for a year and in that time I did the 200k timing belt, water pump, fan clutch and bracket, lexus radiator, everything with a bearing on the front of the motor. ive just got done r&r'ing every vacuum hose and coolant hose on it with oem stuff. Just trying to do a very thorough baseline. i want to get it as trouble free for the next 20 yrs and enjoy it as is.

>>28958884
This one is my codaily (along side a supercharged 86) so I get that. One of the tables is tempting for snowboarding parking lot and camping. Haven't decided on if I will get an exterior snowboard rack or just keep gear inside. Probably the latter since its i go with more than 1 other person. Roof rack is nice as i have a shovel mount and having a full size shovel is great for camping. Its still crazy that the nice roof racks are like $1500 though. The molle panels are maybe even worstle though.

The GX470 is body on frame. However a winch could warm a unibody rig or could rip out if not mounted in a solid enough location. where the crash bumpers mound is not designed for a lot of pulling force on a unibody so it could be a concern.

I have a warn however if I want to run a hardwire controller, I have to pop the hood to connect the controller. It does have a wireless controller though. However I have to pop the hood anyways to unlock the winch clutch if I don't want to slowly winch out every time as I walk back with the controller in my hand. I also connected my winch with a relay so I can power it off since I don't know if the winch controllers are paired to the winch or if they are like old RC cars and too many in one spot could lead to unexpected winch activation.

So I'm looking for a fun second car. Don't care too much about speed and handling, just want something enjoyable. Ofcourse everyone says miata, but also eyeing an TJ Jeep wrangler. However, I'm not looking to spend thousands a year on maintenance and being stranded on the side of the road. Is it still worth it? My father in law has a defender from 2000 and I dont physically fit in that car (im too tall). So dont recommend cars for manlets.
>>
>>
>>28958899
the main problem is it can cause rust on the edges. Their nice to have if you end up going with 4 people as ski / boards dont fit without putting at least one seat down.
>>28958973
I hadnt considered interference from other remotes especially since i leave the winch engaged when driving. I would hope that these days they dont all overlap, if it was someone with the exact same remote that probably wouldnt be much of and issue unless that badland one is very common.

Im old school.
I have a Cobra 21GTL in my main rig that ive been running for like 30 years.
Ive been sitting on a Cobra 29 LTD Classic that I plan on adding to another truck but everytime I start looking at antenna I can't decide if I want to go with a 102" stainess or dual 102s or a firestik or just a mag mount so then I jist get flustered and it just goes back on the shelf.
There are much better radios but I know a Cobra wont take a shit on me when i really need it so I just stick with them instead of trying to filter through new tech.
>>
>>28959756
Oh and just to add-
The antenna has as much to do with signal as the radio. Well, more actually.
The most expensive radio with a trash antenna wont make it out of camp whereas the cheapest radio with a nice antenna thats properly installed will broadcast for miles.
Placement on the vehicle is as important as the antenna itself. The vehicle becomes the grounding plane that affects the signal strength and direction.
>>
>>28959784
with antennas, length is everything
design, not so much. they are all pretty much the same. again: its all about length, not design
if it has a coil, it should be as high as possible
i run a hustler with a small coil probably 3/4 of the way up
102s are great, but dealing with a 102 is a pain
for a properly co phased install, they need to be a half wave from each other, so about 14 feet. no one does it right, it looks retarded if you know what youre looking at. and you need 75ohm cable also
i have a stryker radio, its pretty cool
regular cb doesnt really get out too far, you need mo powah
>>
>>
>>28959811
>no one does it right
Thus why the 29 is still sitting on a shelf.
Another thing to remember is that if youre in the south near the border youll have Mexicans stepping all over you with linear amplifiers and your shit will be worthless.
U.S. is by law less than 5w on CBs.
Mexico doesnt give a shit and these douchbags are running 100w+.
Your rig will be broadcasting for 7 miles but youll be picking up espanol from 150 miles out bleeding 5 channels over.

Should i do aluminum or steel skid plates on this gx470? Only one it has is the engine one but can't tell if it's stock or something that was put on when they installed this Lil B's bumper. I was leaning towards steel but with the weight this already has from the bumper maybe aluminum would be better. Was looking at RCI mainly unless there are some other better alternatives.

I've heard steel slides better, and the steel does save like $100 but adds like 50-60lbs. I think i'll probably go with the steel mainly for the grabbing but not sure how big of a concern rust will be. I'm assuming people mainly just touch them up at each oil change?

Full float axles are exclusively for “heavy duty” applications, they’re selected for the way that loads are distributed through the axle, they’re aren’t used in cars or 1500 trucks, they’re reserved for 2500,3500 and up trucks, semi trucks and box trucks, flat beds and tow trucks

I don't really carry tools.
If a pair of vice grips and adjustable wrench cant take care of any unforeseen problems then your rig shouldnt be on the trail and you should be at home fixing your shit.
You should have fire extinguisher, hydraulic jack, shovel and spare tire/tire iron.
If you need tools then chances are whatever came apart is no longer serviceable anyways.
>Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services.
>>
>>28963739
>If you need tools then chances are whatever came apart is no longer serviceable anyways.
This is what i've always thought i just see a lot of stuff about carrying them.
>fire extinguisher
For car related fires or just general fires?
>spare tire
With my current tires i cant fit a spare in the usual spot. I still have the stock one but it's much smaller than what i have on the truck. I'm considering getting a rear hatch mount to have one but I havent commited to that. Having tire plugs/patch kit seems like it would be enough. I havent gotten an off road jack either.
>>
>>28963770
Extinguisher for car fires. Can be used for a campfire or tent if needed.
Dont forget jump box/tire inflator. Theyre cheap now (I have one in the trunk of every car in the family).
A matching spare is always nice of course but anything will get you home. Just be sure to rotate a matching set to the rear once you get to a good spot (when youre back in 2wd, not on the side of a mountain etc) so you dont burn up your diff.
If.youre.going.on a trip its good to have vehicle.specific.parts that cant be sourced easily from.random parts stores.
I run an MSD 6AL as my spark controller so I carry an extra because the autozone in Smithville bumfucknowhere probably doesnt have one in stock but they'll have a battery or alternator or water pump so no need to carry every component that can fail.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>28964180
Yes get an ABC.
Car fires can be of any type.
2.5lb is the standard size for mounting brackets. I have my bracket on the rear floorboard behind the center console in my Bronco. It can be reached from any front or rear seat but is out if the way.
Pull pin like a grenade, squeeze handle like a garden hose nozzle.
Aim at base of fire where shit is burning, not at the ball of flame above it
Ive seen this multiple times where people try to "knock down" the flames and it doesnt do shit then their extinguisher is empty.
Spraying the flames coming out from under the hood wont do anything. If you cant open the hood you'd have better luck spraying through the grill/radiator. Dont be afraid to reach for the hood latch. Be careful obviously but it wont instantly be 1,000° because a fire started behind 20 seconds ago.
Dont just spray through a window if a seat is on fire. You need to angle it down to the. actual seat
>>
>>28955499
I have a 2003 manual with 225k miles. I think the engine might outlive me, but the body mounts and all the rubber trim is deteriorating. Everything in the cab rattles now so it's getting uncomfortable to drive.

Carry some radiator stop leak, jb weld and extra fluids. Trying to plan for every conceivable failure is a waste of effort. If you know you have a weak link, change it out before you wind up in a situation that could leave you stranded.

Is there a way to tell if these are the original axles? Also, the axles from that site are like 2x+ what the duralast ones are at autozone. Are these others really that poor of quality?

Its easy and you dont have to change both

The aftermarket ones are 100% all bad chinkshit for this car. Only OEM are strong enough to bother buying. Youll be buying replacemens constantly.

You think I should juat but one of the lifted versions for the drivers side and then if/when the passenger side has issues do the same? I dont know exactly how much lift the Eibach added but its on 34" tires. Kind of leaning towards that stock one since thats what appears to be on the car. I ran over something (at least it sounded that way) on the highway the other day so im assuming thats what cut up this boot. Its good that I was looking under it today, I had planned on wheeling this weekend.

the axle seal
i replaced the front bushing in my toyota not long ago
i got the kit from east coast gear supply, and it included the press, which is just a piece of aluminum you put over the seal and hammer it down into the axle, sets the correct depth and keeps you from fucking up the seal
i guess you could just stick a block of wood over it or something, idk
youtube and the forums would be your friend to find out the diameter of it
nice bumpstops, btw ive got a set of those

ah i see, i didnt realize it was that kind of seal i assumed it just got pushed into place when inserting the axle. None of the videos i saw went over that part. I got a quote from a 4x4 shop for only $150 for the install, it's tempting to do that as that's so inexpensive and i need to get a few tools to do this.
>>
>>28972423
id just let the shop do it at that price for sure
you have to take off a bunch of front shit to get the spindle to move out of the way
the axle nut is like 175 ft lbs probably
the seal is the bottom left thingie
>>
>>28972426
I probably will just have them do it, the only reason i wouldnt is to avoid driving it more but it'll probably be fine. I had initially contacted them to see what they wanted to put the RCI skidplates on and they want $300 for that so i have no idea why theyre charging so little for the axle. I thought you could reuse the axle nut, is that not the case?
